EuroDandy…Yeah, I can recall Brooks dominating both in the flield and in the box in that WS. A little worthless trivia aside on that ’70 WS. It was the first WS in which both teams featured the names of players on the jerseys…Haha!

There’s also Davis Cup tennis (I love tennis) and NCAA football going on.

Oy…you will be in front of the tube deep into the night (lawn tomorrow)

1td, and prime time TV was not the dominant force then. Still remember racing off the school bus just in time to see the ending of game 1 of the 68 series. Got to see the last couple of Gibson’s 17 strikeouts.

EuroDandy…I was lucky. We had some really neat teachers in grade school. They’d roll in the TV for the WS even if the Redbirds weren’t playing in it. I can still remember the whole class laughing uncontrollably during the ’69 WS as Weaver was losing his marbles both after the Cleon Jones “HBP” in Game 5 and for being ejected for arguing balls and strikes in Game 4. Weaver was a genuine stand-up comedy routine. And a great one at that…Haha!

Well, this one’s getting close to being placed in the W column. If no one guesses the correct answer to trivia question #2, I’ll post it at the end of this half inning.

The Edman-DeJong double play to end the 8th looked fluid and slick. Add that to Arenado’s flash and flair for the near impossible plus Goldy’s picks and overall rock solid anchor, you’ve got a thing of beauty. Ozzie was otherworld of course, but I’ve never enjoyed watching 4 guys in tandem more than this group.

1td, kind of forgot about part 2 because I don’t have a good guess. But Pettitte or Clemens? Can’t remember if Houston was NL then?

Answer to baseball trivia question #2.

The pitcher who holds the record for most career wins (170) without ever taking a regular season AB is none other than ’78 CYA winner Ron “Gator” Guidry…However, he did have 9 PA’s in WS play with the Yankees, but went 0-9…

    Game break brain teaser

A team records a line of no hits, no runs and no errors, facing 27 batters but is NOT RECORDED as a perfect game by rule. How was that possible?

This actually occurred and Pugs, Bike and any other Scout era posters may remember the details of this bizarre game, and shall stand mute.

Put another one in the W column, and nice turn by Hudson. He needed it. I’m going to get in the whirlpool before lacing them up for Game 2…Take care Redbird fans!

LeGrand…I’ve actually seen that and was told the answer and can’t remember it…Haha! If I try to figure it out on my own, my brain may explode!

    Carter’s brain teaser.

One way would be to have a base runner on via BB or HBP to be erased by a double play. I think I read years ago where the Babe did this as a pitcher. Maybe Babe’s runner was out trying to steal.

It’s a winner! 3 hits by Edman today and a Yadi 2 run dinger! Albert no home but 2 walks and 2 big boys hits’ one each. Things are lookin’ up. Go Cardinals! Holding them to 1 runs good pitching too!
Game 2 of Dbl Header next!

You pretty much got it. Babe started the game, walking the 1st batter. As the catcher went ballistic on the bad calls, George Herman came charging in like a rhino

Ump kicked out the catcher and Babe smashed the hated ump to the head. He too was tossed and the new pitcher promptly picked off the runner on 1st and retired the next 26 batters in order

    Babe was fined fifty bucks

Ah, now I remember it like you said. So the Babe didn’t even record one out before he got tossed, LOL.

Yup. A notorious delinquent allowed to stay at St. Mary’s two years past the age limit was surely on his way to being an apex loud mouthed bully

He treated umps like dogs and they damn sure didn’t like it. He got away with little before he blew up in Yankee Stadium.

One final note: Ruth was never really a sultan imogi

Nice game 1 win…Hudson ate innings and saved the pen, and the bats did enough. Hopefully we can seal the series in game 2 tonight.

Really good win by the Cardinals in game 1. Great start by Hudson and a great game by my boy Eddie.

GameCard…Yep, little Eddie with 3 hits and an RBI, but no runs scored. I want to see him reach that 100 runs scored plateau. For most of the season I considered him the 3rd most valuable position player on this team, but Pujols may be ready to eclipse him for the #3 position. In any event, if Eddie can reach those 100 runs scored, he’ll probably edge out the great HOF’er…Haha!
