Call dials up an opposite field leadoff base knock for Washington. Let’s turn two here to put these guys in their rightful place.
Bottom of the 5th, Birds still leading Washington 3-1. How about we knock this Espino fellow right out of the box this inning…..beat him to a pulp if you will.
At 87 pitches, I’m a little surprised Quintana wasn’t allowed to work into the 6th. Worked out good.
Yeah I don’t think Quintana has had a 100 pitch game since coming over from Pittsburgh, TD. He’s done a credible job for us, but I get the feeling he won’t be with us in ’23.
I think you’re right Pugs, but if he continues to pitch pretty effectively for the Redbirds, he shouldn’t have any trouble finding a place at the table with another ballclub. He’s certainly a servicable starting LHP’er.
Busch II was much tougher to hit homers than Busch III. Our leading HR hitter for the’82 championship team was George Hendrick and he only hit 19. Of course Jack Clark had no problem hitting them but he was Jack the Ripper.
But Busch II was the perfect place for speedsters to hit triples. Guys like Tony Scott, Jerry Mumphrey, Bake McBride, Lonnie Smith, Ozzie Smith, Willie McGee, and Vince Coleman thrived in that park.
Hicks throwing as good as he ever has right now. With us as the probable NL Central champs, you wonder if in the post season we would go with the H&H boys in the 8th and 9th when leading.

Hicks sure has been effectively efficient of late, BicycleMike & Cards667. Let’s hope it holds right on through the post season.
“Gorman taters up”………sweet, TD! Is it just me? Because TD’s “taters up” NEVER gets old.
I’m sure of lot of you remember that Clark who hit 22 HR’s and collected 87 RBI’s that season was the only genuine power bat on the ’85 NL Pennant winning roster, but also that Tommy Herr uncharacteristically led that team with 110 RBI’s with only 8 taters.
I agree about Hicks. He has looked terrific lately. Maybe taking him out of the 8th and 9th innings has lowered the pressure. Not all innings are created equal.
Albert hit that one a mile……. unfortunately a mile high. One out here in the Cardinal 8th in a 4-1 St. Louis ballgame.
With Voit and Thomas on that club, you think how good our club is, and the good players we sent away without getting much back – it is almost scary how much talent we could have. Other than those two you have Wisdom, Arozarena, Adolis Garcia, the two pitchers, Alcantara and Gallen. Man…
