This may be Quintana’s defining turn in the rotation as a Cardinal. In 6 starts as a Redbird, he’s averaging just a hair under 5 IP per turn. If he’s ever going to be expected to work into the latter innings of a ballgame, he should probably do his best to display that he’s capable of doing so against the team he’s facing tonight.
As a side note……Due to Goldschmidt’s mini-slump the last couple of weeks Freddie Freeman is creeping up on him in the NL batting race. Currently Goldy is at .328 and Freeman is at .324.
Would like to see Goldschmidt go on a tear and distance himself from the pack. I am sure he would like to do that as well.

Freeman’s collected 1874 hits. He’s 32 years old and has an outside chance to reach the 3000 hit plateau. Freddie can hit.
I’m concerned with Gorman too. I don’t want to see him bury himself. If some Memphis BBQ is better for his career, like it was for Carlson, do it.
jjcfstl…Gorman’s closing in on 100 K’s in 263 AB’s. He generated plenty of power production in his first 150 or so AB’s, so the K’s were acceptable. He’s not only continued to have difficulty making contact, but has also tapered way off on HR’s and Xtra base hits which can’t be helping the confidence of a 1st year 22 year old player. You’re probably onto something with your idea.
My major concern with Gorman has never been the K’s, because he also provided power.
He has one double his last 50 PA’s. No triples or HR’s and 20 K’s.
He’s chasing high fastballs and check swinging on off-speed stuff. He’s in between.
Hope he drives the ball tonight.
Both Dan M. and Brad T. offered up remarks today and during yesterday’s game concerning how big the OF was and how difficult it is to hit HR’s in the current edition of Busch Stadium. That may be true, but Busch Memorial Stadium was at one time the most difficult venue in the entire NL to drive the baseball over the OF wall, and the power alleys were an extremely expansive area for an OF’er to have to cover. It was no joke.
That is no joke on Busch Memorial, 1TD. I went to a few games there as a teenager, and the humidity was such that you could cut the air with a knife. Combine that with 386 power alleys and 415 to center, and it was not a place conducive to power hitters.
The only guy who really handle it was our one season of Richie “Dick” Allen. A buddy of mine said he saw Allen hit one out to dead center. That was not like hitting one out in this park. You went to games back then and it looked impossible to hit one out to center.
BikeMike…Yeah those, 386 ft. markers in LC and RC field were intimidating. I remember Richie Allen’s one season as a Cardinal. It was a good one, but the guy I remember who didn’t seem bothered by hitting in Busch Memorial was Mike Schmidt. He was the most intimidating hitter in the NL and maybe the entire Big Leagues for almost as long as Albert was.
It’s alarming how nearly every time Gorman gets that second strike on him he ends up striking out. Both Gorman and Libby worry me…….but we have had more than our share of pleasant surprises this year with young players….. we’ve truly been blessed
I couldn’t wait for these Nats to hit town……but now that they are here, I can’t wait for them to skip town.

Yep, never count your Cardinal W’s before they hatch, TD. Especially when facing the likes of Anibal and Espino.
For the first time in this series, a Redbird pitcher is able to set the Nats down in order. Hopefully this is a good omen for big things coming up here. Right now I’d settle for a run …..and then we’ll go from there.
