Bottom of 4. Anibal with an even-Steven 50 pitches coming into this inning.
Arenado sends a deep fly ball to right, but Palacios has it measured and hauls it in on the track for the out.
Albert on 1-1 Albert hits it a country mile to left….maybe two, but it drifts well wide of the foul pole. Albert flies out to Hernandez in short left field.
Dickerson flies out to Palacios just a foot or two shy of the track and that’s now 11 straight Redbirds who Anibal had tamed.

Cards 0September 5, 2022 at 4:34 pm #199292I want a broadcast with no announcers 1 time. Just pump the sound of the stadium. When a pitcher gets up in the pen have a little picture in picture showing who’s warming up in the corner. The Cat can come on in the 3rd inning and give a quick update, without Brad saying something dumb to him, and that’s the only talking. I definitely think I’d like that way more than listening to announcers spew all the time.
September 5, 2022 at 4:37 pm #199293Flaherty’s scattered 5 hits to go along with 5 K’s. Seems like all or most of the hits he’s allowed have come on favorable 0-2 and 1-2 counts.
September 5, 2022 at 4:40 pm #199294Card667…Not sure they’ve ever done that with a baseball game, but I distinctly remember the NFL experimented with that sort of broadcast. Believe it was in the late 70’s to early 80’s.
September 5, 2022 at 4:44 pm #199295Top of 5. Surprise surprise….. Flaherty is still pitching.
Thomas is hit above the left elbow by a Flaherty fast ball that seemed to almost have a mind of it’s own as it veered way inside of it’s intended target.
Garcia on 3-2 strikes out swinging on a nasty breaking ball and that’s 6 K’s for Jack.
Meneses spanks a base hit to left and Thomas, who was moving on the pitch, will successfully navigate his way on over to 3rd base.
Voit hits a fly ball to short center where O’Neill jogs in to catch it and Lane Thomas will not dare test O’Neill’s strong arm as he’ll stand pat at 3rd base .
Ruiz flies out to Nooty in right.

Cards 0September 5, 2022 at 4:44 pm #199296Flaherty curveball was inconsistent, hanging, casting. The slider/cutter had good late movement and pretty good command. The fastball has good velocity and much better life than last seen of Jack, but still not a ton of command. Missing a lot with the fast ball, some arm side, some yanked across the plate into the dirt. Overall C-, needs to be better. AAA Nationals didn’t make him pay, Dodgers or Braves would have had him out in 3 innings or less, but much better looking than what he looked last time he tried to come back.
September 5, 2022 at 4:53 pm #199297Jack really hasn’t been that sharp today but has gutted out five innings. He has gotten some outs when he needed them but he is allowing too many hitters to work deep counts. Not a terrible outing but maybe he will be sharper next time.
September 5, 2022 at 4:53 pm #199298Molina’s always hit that out of the zone up and away pitch with success.
September 5, 2022 at 4:55 pm #199299I don’t know how you can really fault a guy who allows only 1 earned run in 5 IP.
September 5, 2022 at 4:57 pm #199300Bottom of 5. Anibal with 59 pitches thus far….most of them quality in nature, as he’s only surrendered one Cardinal hit on the day…. let’s change that right here and right now shall we?
Gorman on 3-2 strikes out swinging on a high hard one and Nolan is simply lost in space right now at the dish. He needs to come on back to earth and start putting some balls into play every now and then.
Yadi lines it into center field for a base knock.
Eddie grounds it to Abrams playing well over in back of 1st base and he’ll fire it over to 2nd base to get the lead runner Yadi.
Edman to 2nd base on an errant throw to 1st.
Nooty flies out to Palacios in right.

Cards 0September 5, 2022 at 5:09 pm #199301Tough luck inning and it’s not over yet.
September 5, 2022 at 5:11 pm #199302I don’t know how you can really fault a guy who allows only 1 earned run in 5 IP.
A better offense would have eaten him up today with the command he had. He was able to limit damage against a line up that I don’t think you can say 1 of them could hold a roster spot on the Cardinals. Overall he was better, but not good enough for me to come close to saying he can be the #4 in a playoff series. He’ll get 3 or 4 more chances. I hope he gets better and can be a boost.
September 5, 2022 at 5:13 pm #199303Top of 6. Neil Pallante your new Cardinal hurler.
Hernandez chops a grounder over a leaping Arenado’s head and out into left for a hit.
Vargas hits a little tapper back to Pallante who will fire to 2nd for one but the throw to 1st will not get Vargas.
Palacios rifles a shot into left for a hit….with Vargas halting his forward progress at 2nd.
Abrams rolls a slow one down the 3rd baseline and Arenado will have no choice but to send a prayer towards the heavens for it to veer foul but that holy request will not be answered and the bases are now loaded with Nats.
Thomas on 3-2 walks on a very close pitch and in trots run #2 for the visitors.
Garcia hits a high chopper where Gorman races in to glove but he has absolutely no where to go with the ball as all hands on deck are safe and now the Cards are looking at a 3-0 deficit with Washington still looking for much more and that will do it for Neil Pallante.
Nats 3
Cards 0Pitching change:. Stratton now pitching.
Meneses lines a shot over Eddie’s outstretched glove and out into left-center field for a hit that scores just one as the runners had to hold up and it’s 4-0.
Voit hits a sac fly to right scoring Thomas and it’s 5-0 Nats.
Ruiz walks to load them up yet once again.
Hernandez flies out to Dickerson in left.

ParticipantPujols got caught in no man’s land there. First step was toward ball, after that hard to go back to first. Might not have been a play anyway.
September 5, 2022 at 5:18 pm #199305Good grief Addams! You’re gonna have to put some juice in your PBP to get something going!
September 5, 2022 at 5:19 pm #199306Cards667…Yeah, possibly. He didn’t do too bad. 1ER in 5 IP with 6K’s to go along with the 2 BB’s. Could it have been better? Sure, but I’d say it’s more than a decent turn for a guy who hadn’t worked to Big League hitters in a little more than 2 months.

ParticipantNoot didn’t get set up for that ball very well. Most flat footed throw. This one isn’t going our way so far.
September 5, 2022 at 5:24 pm #199308sad
September 5, 2022 at 5:24 pm #199309I am not faulting Jack. Like I said it wasn’t a terrible outing, especially for his first time back. But he also wasn’t overly sharp either. He will have more opportunities to sharpen up before the playoffs start.
Pallante with the rare off day today and even more troubling is our offense being baffled by Sanchez.
September 5, 2022 at 5:25 pm #199310In the time it took for DC to slow bleed those 4 runs, it seems like about 7 or 8 runs crossed HP. Still have 12 outs to score 6 runs. That’s no hill for a climber…GO REDBIRDS!
September 5, 2022 at 5:25 pm #199311Yeah I hear you, Carter. The wifey has been pleading with me to come to din-din. Thus far I’ve blown her off, but now with this game getting a bit out of Cardinal control, I just may head her way with fork in hand and a couple of tears misting in my left eye…..my right eye is completely dry…… don’t know what to make of that?
September 5, 2022 at 5:29 pm #199312
jj-cf-stlParticipantGorman is due for some Memphis BBQ, he’s burying himself. Donovan to 2B.
September 5, 2022 at 5:34 pm #199313Pugs…Haha! I’m not sure if I’ve ever had a tear in my eye once I heard the dinner bell ring…
September 5, 2022 at 5:43 pm #1993141982 willie
ParticipantPallante didn’t pitch bad, just had some bad luck. His pitches had the same movement they always have. He isn’t really a strike out pitcher so sometimes those batted balls just get hit in tough spots to make plays on.

You’ve never had my wifey’s home cooking, TD. I long for McDonald’s tonight. Just sitting down to some lame Cornish hen concoction as we speak.
