Carter Le Grand……thanks for posting and reminding me. I had totally forgot about the 4:15 est start. I would have missed the entire game! Thanks alot buddy!
I now have time to get my swiffer gizmo out, some Mop n’ Glow, and clean my hardwood floors before the game starts. Then me and Whitey Herdog can sit on the couch with a couple of Palma Real 7×50 Presidente cigars and tune in with shiny floors beneath us!
Din-din today was a ribeye steak in the air fryer, some been & noodles, a Pepsi, and a couple of ice cream sandwiches.

September 5, 2022 at 2:22 pm #199262By the way, in case you missed it. Aaron Judge slugged his 54th wanger of the year today at Yankee Stadium against Minnesota. He keeps going he is going to surpass Roger Maris’s record of 61 homeruns in a season.
September 5, 2022 at 2:26 pm #199263On paper we match up well with every team in the NL…with the possible exception of the Dodgers. They are hands down the best team in baseball: best NL run differential, more than double Braves and Cards (rank 2 and 3)
Lowest team ERA, Cards middle of the pack
However, Cards have the best defense in the NL, least errors and most DP’s
The return of a healthy Flaherty could be HUGE, but the same can be said of Walker Buehler
Of course I’m chicken pre-counting, like beating the Mets and Braves is a given
September 5, 2022 at 2:30 pm #199264On Albert: I have said it before and will repeat it: there is no way in hell he doesn’t return next year with 714 in his giant ego sights
September 5, 2022 at 2:33 pm #199265Walker Buehler underwent TJ surgery recently so he probably won’t pitch again until 2024. Despite that the Dodgers are still loaded, as are the Mets and Braves. In fact it wouldn’t surprise me to see the Braves win the NL East. The Dodgers, Mets, and Braves are all elite teams but our Cardinals can play with those guys on any given day. Throw in the Padres and Phillies and the NL playoffs will be very tough this year.
September 5, 2022 at 2:39 pm #199266Most of the rain in the St. Louis area broke up and there’s just a few scattered in the area. Looks like it should stay dry.
September 5, 2022 at 2:46 pm #199267Thanks for the weather report Cards667! The Doppler Radar seems to indicate a slight chance of some scattered rain as the afternoon lingers on. Sure hope it stays dry. Really looking forward to this game today.
And then later tonight it’s the Giants and the Dodgers from Dodger Stadium. Me and Whitey Herdog will be tuned in for that one as well.
And before I forget, Milwaukee is in Colorado for a three game set starting tonight.

September 5, 2022 at 3:03 pm #199269gscottar…Braves are 7-8 vs. the Mets with 3 games in AtL. remaining between the two teams. They began the first two months of this season as a .500 ballclub and allowed the Mets to take command of the NLE. Now they’re breathing down the neck of the Mets at 1 game back. I expect the Braves to win that division. Not only because I think they’re a better team, but also because I absolutely abhor the NY Mets. Especially Howard Johnson…

September 5, 2022 at 3:25 pm #199274Top of 1. Flaherty going for St. Louis. Jack with a pretty fair defense behind him, as only the Seattle Mariners with 49 errors, have committed fewer miscues than the Cards.
Lane Thomas flies out to O’Neill in relatively deep center field.
Garcia strikes out swinging on a nice slider.
Meneses on 0-2 dumps a little fly into right field for a base hit.
Luke Voit bounces it out to Eddie at SS and Tommy will opt for the shorter route as he flips it on over to Gorman at 2nd to retire the side.

Cards 0September 5, 2022 at 3:28 pm #199275AMF Voit has done alright for a 1B’man/DH with marginal power. He goes to NY, gets some exposure and cashes in with some nice coin and a flashy BMW commercial.
September 5, 2022 at 3:32 pm #199276He’s really not big enough anymore, but at one time TO runs well enough to have been a power tailback in the NFL.
September 5, 2022 at 3:37 pm #199277Bottom of 1. The crafty veteran, Anibal Sanchez on the hill for Washington this afternoon.
Nooty lofts a high deep drive to right! Polaciss back to the wall and he has it for the out. He jumped for the ball, but why? is anyone’s guess
O’Neill bounces it wide of 1st base where Meneses gloves it and he’ll…..not beat O’Neill to the bag……nice hustle resulting in a well deserved infield hit.
Goldy walks for the 70th time here in ’22.
Arenado on 3-2 walks and that will completely cram the sacks with Cards for Albert.
Albert strikes out swinging on a high 2-2 cutter. Albert has been whacking those high ones pretty good…..but came up empty this time.
Dickerson pokes a liner out to left but Caesar Hernandez has a beed on it and has it for the out
Cards 0
Nats 0September 5, 2022 at 3:49 pm #199278Top of 2. Flaherty registered 19 1st inning pitches.
Ruiz walks on 4 consecutive pitches out of the zone.
Cesar Hernandez rolls it out to Gorman at 2nd and he’ll go to Eddie at 2nd for one but that’s all they’ll get as that grounder was hit a bit too weakly for it to be tu
Vargas grounds it back up the middle and off Flaherty…. Eddie picks it up and fires it to 1st base for the out as Hernandez moves into 2nd.
Palacios fouls out to Arenado right over near the railing to retire the side.
Cards 0
Nats 0September 5, 2022 at 3:53 pm #199279I’ve already had enough of the announcers slobbering over how good Flaherty looks. He looks OK. Control not super sharp here early. His delivery looks fine but not effortless. Why not let his performance tell the story instead of the non stop babble.
September 5, 2022 at 3:59 pm #199280Bottom of 2.
Gorman homered off Anibal last time these two faced each other. This time Gorman strikes out swinging and Nolan has to start putting the ball into play with more regularity.
Yadi with 5 hits in his last 12 at bats. Yadi grounds out to SS this time.
Eddie bunts towards the left side where Anibal pounces on it like a hungry tiger and he’ll fire it over to Meneses at 1st base to get Tommy by two steps.
Cards 0
Nats 0September 5, 2022 at 4:06 pm #199282Top of 3. Flaherty with 35 pitches thru 2.
Abrams lines a shot to center where O’Neill dives for it but it’ll skip on by him and head towards the wall…..and by the time the ball gets back in, Abrams will be standing at 3rd with a standup triple.
Thomas lines a shot to right that will hit the turf once and skip on over the wall for a ground rule double….1-0 Nats
Garcia strikes out.
Meneses strikes out looking.
Voit strikes out swinging and Flaherty came into this inning like a lamb and exited it like a lion.
Nats 1
Cards 0September 5, 2022 at 4:08 pm #199283Yadi hasn’t lost any quickness when it comes to pulling a pitch into the zone and framing it up nice.
September 5, 2022 at 4:14 pm #199285Flaherty with 51 pitches through 3 innings. He probably won’t last more than 5 innings today, 6 at the most.
We need to get the bats going. Blew a good opportunity in the first inning.
September 5, 2022 at 4:14 pm #199286Bottom of 3. Sanchez begins this inning with 41 pitches under his belt.
Nooty rips a liner to left but unfortunately directly at Cesar Hernandez who barely has to move a muscle to bring it in.
O’Neill grounds out routinely to Vargas at 3rd.
Goldy rolls a tidy little grounder out to Abrams at SS and he’ll glove it and wing it on over to Meneses’ waiting mitt at 1st base to retire the side.
Nats 1
Cards 0September 5, 2022 at 4:26 pm #199287Top of 4.
Keibert Ruiz lines a base hit to center to open the Washington 4th in fine fashion.
Cesar Hernandez rips it into right field for a base hit with Ruiz stopping at 2nd base.
Vargas lays a nice bunt down towards 3rd and Arenado’s only option is 1st base as the runners move up to 2nd and 3rd.
Palacios strikes out swinging on the 8th pitch of his at bat…..2 down.
Abrams smokes a wicked liner to right but Nooty will corral it on down to retire the side and Flaherty has now logged 71 pitches in this ballgame, so it’s doubtful that he’ll see inning #5.
Nats 1
Cards 0September 5, 2022 at 4:27 pm #199288I’ve already had enough of the announcers slobbering over how good Flaherty looks. He looks OK. Control not super sharp here early. His delivery looks fine but not effortless. Why not let his performance tell the story instead of the non stop babble.
Couldn’t agree more. And the slobbering all over every chance to mention Pujols and blah blah blah. There’s a reason the volume is usually below 5 when I watch because I’d rather not listen to them. Had it up earlier and Pujols AB in the 1st I already had to turn them down. Like I’ve said there are way worse out there, but many times I choose not to listen.
September 5, 2022 at 4:28 pm #199289Jack makes good pitches and not so good. Hopefully he sharpens up each start. Today, making a lot of pitches and the base path has been busy, but he has not melted down. Kept his composure and not much damage so far. If he can go 5 with just 1 run allowed it will be a good first game back. Not sure I’d push it beyond that unless he has a real efficient 5th.
September 5, 2022 at 4:28 pm #199290Only 1 hit off Sanchez so far. I’d like to see some hits this inning before he turns into a genuine headache.
