RHP Dakota Hudson (7-6, 4.23) vs. RHP Justin Dunn (1-2, 5.12)
BSM // KMOX
Also BSSE and BSSW+August 30, 2022 at 5:26 am #1983207 GB Muts for 2nd seed. We have to pour it on. No more marathon, its 33 sprints in a row down the stretch.
Do we want to start talking about a possible future for Dickerson after this season?
August 30, 2022 at 6:12 am #198323Miles Mikolas had 0 innings in 2020 and 44.2 last year. He’s been great all year, but when Flaherty comes back, maybe it would be the perfect time to give him a start or two off to be fresh for the playoffs. He’s already at 168 for the year, I know he’s a veteran, but that’s a massive jump for anyone.
August 30, 2022 at 8:26 am #198326Skipping a turn would not be the worst think for Mikolas.
Woodford or Pallante or Liberatore or an off day can fill in since it seems Hudson is going to keep taking his turn.
Not sure what to do with either Flaherty or Matz at this point. I’m a member of the ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ club and there are already pieces in place…..
August 30, 2022 at 8:49 am #198329ZTR, I don’t see anyway Flaherty is not given a chance in the rotation when he’s ready (which is supposedly Labor Day). For a week or two going with JF, Waino, Monty, Quintana and Hudson is what I was suggesting.
Regarding Matz, I’m not as familiar with his situation. I am just not a fan of Hudson for various reasons, possibly a Matz/Hudson piggyback plan down the stretch? Both pitch 4-5 innings and keep the BP fresh. Just an idea.

ParticipantIsn’t it maybe better for Mikolas to stay in his regular routine?
August 30, 2022 at 9:15 am #198334Mozeliak indicated Matz would finish out the year as a reliever because there won’t be enough time to build him back up as a starter.
August 30, 2022 at 9:40 am #198337The rotation situation is too fluid to predict anything, But looking ahead to October and assuming all arms are available, what 4 do we go with?
August 30, 2022 at 11:00 am #198338Matters how Flaherty looks when he comes back to me. Right now I’d go Montgomery, Wainwright, Mikolas. You don’t need a 4th SP until the championship series. With the WC round being best of 3 (3 straight days) and the Division Series being best of 5 (2-2-1 format).
August 30, 2022 at 11:07 am #198339LeGrand…I’d have to say Wainwright, Montgomery, Mikolas and Quintana. I’d also guess in that order. Looking at those four names, I’d have to say if I were to choose one of them to emerge as the guy I’d want to have available to work a win or go home game, it’d be Wainwright. Mikolas has done okay, but he just doesn’t strike me as the one I’d feel most comfortable with when all the money’s been pushed to the center of the table. Of course, I was worried about Suppan working at Shea in the 7th game of the ’06 NLCS. So, my guess means less than nothing. And like you pointed out, things change in a hurry, so I never make predictions. Especially about the future…

jj-cf-stlParticipantThat’s a good point about Mikolas CFCT
August 30, 2022 at 11:24 am #198341Cards667…Yeah, 3 arms will suffice for the 1st round. I’d also have to say that Monte would be the guy I’d most expect to possibly supplant Wainwright as a #1 and Quintana would be the name I would most expect to possibly be out of the mix depending on his last few turns during the regular season. But right now, Wainwright’s my choice to work a game to survive.
August 30, 2022 at 11:37 am #198342First 2 rounds, unless they can catch the Mets for that 2nd seed. But as it sits right now they’d play 3 games vs SD in STL. I’d lean towards Montgomery starting game 1 right now, but would understand Wainwright too. Either way it’s those 2 in the first 2 games. Mikolas in game 3, if necessary. If they get past SD then it’s 5 game series vs. NYM and still only need 3 SP. There’s still a lot of baseball though and if Flaherty can make 4 good starts then who knows what could happen.
August 30, 2022 at 11:40 am #198343Just noticed that the 2 Cardinal corner IF’ers are 1 and 2 in the NL in both SLG’ing and OBPS. I don’t even know how they calculate those fancy numbers, but they look nice.

That’s news to me. Good info. The one game format is football. So fill me in on the new ‘PLAY ALL TEAMS’ regular season format I hear about for next year (if you got a handle on it)
August 30, 2022 at 11:47 am #198345Cards667…Yeah, Flaherty could definitely work himself into the conversation with a couple of nice turns, but practical experience with him has taught me not to get myself too spun up and excited about him being the sort of starting pitcher that he once impressed everyone he’d be.
August 30, 2022 at 11:56 am #198346LeGrand…That scheduling format is the silliest thing I’ve seen since the make believe fairy tale baserunner in extra innings. Get this…the Redbirds home opener is against the Blue Jays. There’s more…Instead of playing a division series against the Cubbies at Wrigley or Busch Stadium, they get to sip tea together in late June with the Queen, Twiggy, and all of the mods and rockers in jolly old London.
August 30, 2022 at 12:13 pm #198347Doppler Radar looks good. Should have no problem getting this game in tonight. Hoping Kenny Quack can throw the ball over the plate tonight.
August 30, 2022 at 12:19 pm #198348Yep, Hudson leads all pitchers in the NL with 55 BB’s. He’s lucky to have a 7-6 W/L record.
August 30, 2022 at 1:29 pm #198351Dom…I could maybe see Tokyo or Mexico City, but London??!
Will the Wicked Googoley’s play cricket in Brooklyn?August 30, 2022 at 2:21 pm #198352Carter you wrote

I don’t understand your math. Without short rest, the Division Series game 1 or 2 starter can only pitch game 5. Game 4 has to be pitched by the #4 starter.
August 30, 2022 at 2:46 pm #198355socalcard…Yeah, short rest can be dicey. Lonborg on 2 days rest didn’t turn out so well for the Red Sox, but a year later, Lolich working on 2 days rest seemed to be okay for the Tigers. And the guy they both faced in the pitching match-up was pretty good, so…”youneverknow.”
August 30, 2022 at 2:57 pm #198356LeGrand…Mexico City and Tokyo may be worse. We have enough nachos at the ballparks in this country already…And who the heck eats sushi and rice at a dang ballgame? Need to keep the schedule guys away from the recreational dispensaries…The entire thing’s outta hand.
August 30, 2022 at 3:10 pm #198357I doubt if Pujols is in the lineup tonight. Assume Norman will be the DH in this one.
Din-din today was a Subway steak & cheese sandwich with lettuce, mayo, onions, and mustard. Along with a couple of ears of Aces High Sweet Corn, a Pepsi, and the last piece of chocolate cake from the bakery at the grocery along with some freshly made homemade ice cream. Yum yum.
