Anyone remember the story of Herzog’s response to a post game presser when asked about a pivotal 6th inning play in which the slightly corpulent Dave LaPoint dropped Keith Hernandez’ perfect underhand toss to a covering LaPoint at 1B on an easy out ground ball to the right side of the IF in the 7th inning of the 5th game of the ’82 WS at Milwaukee Co. Stadium? That error opened the floodgates for the Brewers to score 6 runs and win the game after they had trailed 5-1. When asked about the play, Herzog said, “If it’d been a cheesburger, he’d have caught it.”
August 13, 2022 at 6:17 pm #195376Announcers used to say stuff they couldn’t say these days. It’s probably for the best Shannon isn’t behind a mic anymore.
August 13, 2022 at 6:37 pm #195382I’d say so, Bling. I’d venture a guess that a benign phrase like, ‘holy cow’ might bring some heat these days. Heck, in Cleveland you can’t even be a smiling Indian anymomre. That’s too bad.
August 13, 2022 at 7:03 pm #195384Worrying about that is pretty far down my bucket list, I doubt I’ll get to it.
I’m liking Noot and Donovan at the top of the order. Maybe they will do better than the touts.
August 13, 2022 at 7:23 pm #195387How about a 2 out 2 run tater for the rookie?
August 13, 2022 at 7:26 pm #195388Pretty boring game on gamecast.
August 13, 2022 at 7:43 pm #195390Bling…Yeah, that’s a tough break regarding the tree limb on your cable line. I’m being entertained watching the two big RHP’s work their craft, but I wouldn’t at all mind seeing several runs hung up on the board as long as it’s by the good guys. AW looks as good as I’ve sen him all season and the other guy is by no means an easy sale. We’ll see what happens, Bling. Hope you get your cable straightened out.
GO REDBIRDS!
August 13, 2022 at 7:46 pm #195391Hey Bling, is gamecast similar to what they call gameday on the MLB.com website?
August 13, 2022 at 7:52 pm #195393Well, that’s out of the way. Get this 3rd out and hang some runs on the board.
August 13, 2022 at 7:55 pm #195394If he had to give up the no-hitter, at least it was on a clean single by a good player, McCutchen. Sad that he isn’t still a Pirate…
August 13, 2022 at 7:55 pm #195395Besides, a shutout’s always better than a no-no. No ballclub has ever lost a shutout…
August 13, 2022 at 7:58 pm #195396BW…I thought I heard Dan say that McCutcheon has the most hits off of AW than any other hitter.
August 13, 2022 at 8:02 pm #195397Wong looked at Telez like, “Are you blind?”
August 13, 2022 at 8:03 pm #195398Nice!
August 13, 2022 at 8:05 pm #195399Goldschmidt is an outstanding baserunner. Reminds me of both Scott Rolen and Larry Walker.
August 13, 2022 at 8:09 pm #195400AW only at 79 pitches. He goes all 9 if he can avoid trouble.
August 13, 2022 at 8:12 pm #195403Hey Bling, is gamecast similar to what they call gameday on the MLB.com website?
Yeah, its ESPN’s version
Cable is coming Tuesday afternoon, supposedly.
August 13, 2022 at 8:16 pm #195404I didn’t think he got it. Tough break.
August 13, 2022 at 8:22 pm #195405Bling…Oh, okay. I wasn’t sure. I sometimes use gameday on MLB while I’m watching to see other scores, check pitch counts etc. It’s pretty handy, but if my cable were down, I’d be over at my son’s house a couple of miles away. Hope yours gets lined out.
August 13, 2022 at 8:23 pm #195406Bling…TUESDAY!? I’d be breaking furniture,,,
August 13, 2022 at 8:26 pm #195407Boy, wouldn’t this be something?

jj-cf-stlParticipantSeems like Gorman hits tough pitchers the best. Seems like.
August 13, 2022 at 8:46 pm #195410Wainwright looks like he’s losing steam in the 9th even though he had retired the 1st two batters. What a night for him. Marmol came out to talk to him before McCutchen’s AB. Edmonds with a funny line about Marmol on his visit to the mound – “Hey what are you doing out here?” – after Yadi and Adam barely recognized his presence. Cutch flies out to end the inning.
Is Wainwright retiring at the end of this year? Anybody taking that bet? I’m not.
August 13, 2022 at 8:57 pm #195413I think Wainwright comes back next year. That would give him a shot at 200 career wins.
August 13, 2022 at 9:00 pm #195415Euro…Me either. Needs 8 winning decisions to reach the 200 W plateau, so I’d say there’s a decent chance he’ll show up at ST.
