We have some leftover Yankee pot roast in the fridge, but are going to a beer tasting event that features a car and airplane show, along with din-din.
By the way, anyone on here call dinner “supper”? My cousin and I email each other all the time and he always refers to the evening meal as “supper.” We grew up saying “dinner”, so that is what I have known.

ParticipantRural communities sometimes call the midday meal “dinner” and the evening meal “supper”.

ParticipantFor us supper was always the last meal of the night. Dinner was usually reserved for a holiday type meal or when it was more of a big gathering. Generally during middle of day, you just ate what you could find or your imagination could create.

cardsfan64ParticipantEdman was a late scratch.
August 6, 2022 at 4:57 pm #194273Why?

ParticipantWell we are catching the Yankees at a good time. No Stanton or rizzo. They did move Donaldson behind judge but still got Torres after that so so they counter one smart move when one not as smart. Though he has to bat somewhere I guess. Seems like they should have been looking for a replacement for him not an outfielder.

August 6, 2022 at 5:29 pm #194278It’s always been “din-din” in the Pugs’ household. You know, I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned this before, and you may very well not believe it, but do you have any idea who originated the words “let’s do lunch”? You’re looking at him. The year was 1983 at ASU in Tempe, AZ. I started saying to my fellow brothers at my frat house “let’s do dinner”. Then we all started using it for “let’s do breakfast” and “let’s do lunch” too. Before long you started hearing “let’s do lunch” and “let’s do dinner” around the ASU campus. “Let’s do breakfast” NEVER caught on. Anyway, the following year I was in a Jack In the Box restaurant across from the big pier in Huntington Beach, California when I heard this surfer dude say to his friend “let’s do lunch dude”……and I knew it was spreading around the globe. And before long it was not uncommon to hear it on television shows.
August 6, 2022 at 5:32 pm #194279Greens, pork chops, cornbread and of course a Cards winner. Topping it off with chocolate ice cream Blue Bell style.
August 6, 2022 at 5:37 pm #194280Edmans been playing alot sounds like it the muscles across your ribs. The ones you twist with. Din-din will be suddenly salad I made last night. Ranch and Bacon flavor with tuna added. Serve it cold. Been eating different brands hot dogs lately and got a good beer brats recipe from my in-laws from Wisconsin to try. You guys have some nice dinners going tonight. Got to do mustard on ham and pork chops. Ketchup or Catsup? Ketchup good in mashed potatoes. Dinner was when we went out to eat. Eating at home was supper. Just don’t be late! Mid-day was lunch. Up against a rh coming back from injury so I see Marmol alternated rh and lh batters. We’re getting it on Fox too. Nations Pride just came on from behind to win Saratoga like we did last night. Go Cardinals!
August 6, 2022 at 5:39 pm #194281Sweet sweet din-din, TexasCard! There’s something about cornbread…..love that stuff, but the wifey never makes it…..I think her and I will be having a little chat later.
And Wooster…….some of your din-dins are to die for. Catsup on mashed potatoes…..forgot about that good one, Wooster.
August 6, 2022 at 5:45 pm #194282
jj-cf-stlParticipantThe problem with adding a no bat defensive replacement is the 4man bench.
Could Edman play tonight? Maybe, but they’d rather not with the big picture in mind.
Donovan just missed a week but never went IL. There will be stretches where it’s really a 3man bench, and if one of them is a no-bat, we’re down to one bat and a backup catcher. Hard pass.
August 6, 2022 at 6:12 pm #194283Good stuff gents. It was always dinner at our house growing up. My cousin grew up on a farm so makes sense they might call it “supper.” But then that is the farm my dad grew up on too and we were always “dinner.”
Din-din is used now and then as a slang – I have used it before it became the norm here at TCN.
Did not realize Pugsley was such a culture influencer. “Let’s do lunch” was the term to use in the ‘80s.
So let’s see – Yankees-Cardinals World Series are quite numerous. If I am thinking correct here, we are the only team to beat the Bronx Bombers in the Fall Classic between 1923 and 1954. I believe that is correct, and they were in a ton of World Series over those years. But we managed to beat them in 1926 and 1942.
We also lost in 1928 and 1943, but came back to knock ‘em off in ‘64. How about we meet again this Fall?
August 6, 2022 at 6:13 pm #194284This is terrible. I’m stuck having to watch the Brewers-Reds game. So sorry as there will be no PBP……but maybe that’s a good thing for some. I really want to see this game. Ideas anyone? Utude possibly?
We would beat the Yanks again, BicycleMike…..just give us the chance.
August 6, 2022 at 6:35 pm #194285That stinks Pugs, you will be missing an epic thrashing of the pin stripers.
August 6, 2022 at 6:42 pm #194287I hear you, Bling. I’ve been waiting all day…..and then to be subjected to the Reds. Any score yet?
August 6, 2022 at 6:48 pm #194288Cardinals lead 1-0 on an Arenado single scoring Goldy after he doubled.

August 6, 2022 at 6:55 pm #194293Oh yeah Pugs I watch alot of games Google St Louis Cardinals for the game. Watch pitches and game on “play by play”. Kinda like enhanced radio.
