Our strategy should be to play a last place team all the time. This is great.

ParticipantYea not much to be learned from beating up on a totally depleted cubs pitching staff but it’s still nice for the moment.

ParticipantStratton not impressing so far.
August 4, 2022 at 9:50 pm #194081Up 7 to 2 and Stratton walks the first two batters! The new guy fits really guy in with the rest of our pen! Lol!
August 4, 2022 at 9:52 pm #194082OMG 2 walks are we gonna …I am getting that feeling
August 4, 2022 at 9:52 pm #194083Stratton on to pitch the 9th for the men in red….. let’s momentarily stay with the action shall we?
Contreras on 3-2 walks…… don’t worry Rat….we have a 5 run lead here, nothing to get overly agitated with just yet….have another piece of Gasthof peach marmolade pie and all will be good…. don’t forget to give the pooch a taste or two.
Wisdom walks and all the pie in southern Indiana is not going to curtail Rat’s rage now….. it’ll be ok, Rat…..trust me.
Suzuki strikes out swinging…..that one was for you, Rat.
Hoerner raps into a 4-6-3 DP……but now Chicago wants this play reviewed…..they don’t have a snowballs chance in southern Arizona of winning this contention……and yes indeed the Cubbie quest to prolong their agony further will fall upon deaf ears as this game as been ruled as completed, with the Good Guys getting the game and the series sweep.
Your fabulous final score:
St. Louis Cardinals 7
Chicago Cubs 2August 4, 2022 at 9:54 pm #1940841982 willie
ParticipantThat cubs batter there tells you all about today’s game. 5 runs down, no outs , 2 runners on, 2-0 count and he swings at a offspeed pitch out of the zone. Back in the day, you would sit dead red and only swing at that if it was up and hanging.
August 4, 2022 at 9:55 pm #194085What the hell now???
August 4, 2022 at 9:56 pm #1940861982 willie
ParticipantInstant replay proves it was a double play, too bad that wasn’t around in 1985.

Let it go Bro
August 4, 2022 at 10:00 pm #194088So true Willie …..we would have another WS winning banner hanging from the rafters. I’ve always thought there should be an asterisk ✳️ attached to the 1985 series.
August 4, 2022 at 10:12 pm #194089Drinker said people never forgave him for that. It’s a winner- definitely not pretty and way harder than it had to be. Quintella looks good and we won by 5 so I missed by one. Great play by play as always by Pugs! Go Cardinals!
August 4, 2022 at 10:12 pm #194090I hate auto correct.See you guys tomorrow.
August 4, 2022 at 10:39 pm #194093Quintana was very good tonight. Definitely an upgrade over Matz. A $2M contract vs a $44M contract. Go figure.

ParticipantCarter le grand, I’ll never let that go. One of the worst calls if not the worst call I have ever seen.
August 4, 2022 at 11:10 pm #1940961982 willie
ParticipantMy opinion of quintana will have to wait til I see a few more games against better lineups. But good so far
August 4, 2022 at 11:45 pm #194097Thanks Wooster…..thank you very much!
The game ends on a high note as we complete the sweep……and as projected in Game 1, the Cubbies hit the magic series total runs scored at a rather paltry 5. But, the esteemed Carter Le Grand and wiley Willie send us off to bed on a somber note, as they rekindle horrible memories of the Denkinger game in the ’85 series. I’m going to try counting sheep as I prepare for sleep and not reruns and reruns of the play that cost us the ’85 series. Nighty nite gang.

stlcard25ParticipantGlad to see Quintana pick up where he left off. I always felt like he’d have been a great fit for St Louis in his prime. Hopefully he can keep the magic going.
Also, if O’Neill can get and stay hot like he did the last half of 2021, this offense becomes very dangerous.
Always good to beat up on the Scrubs, even if they are down.
August 5, 2022 at 7:31 am #194112There are still some gaping holes in this line up. I think all but 3-4 players are batting under .250?
Why the hell is Hicks trying to be cute and nibble around the edges of the plate with his stuff? Makes no sense to me….
August 5, 2022 at 7:41 am #194113MLB only has 86 qualified batters above .250 this year, so we are hanging in there around average.
August 5, 2022 at 7:50 am #194114Not really…our line-up is solid from the top to the bottom.
August 5, 2022 at 8:08 am #194118And FWIW the 90th place for OPS so far this year is at .739, occupied by our friends Randy Arozarena and Luke Voit. Three per team is of course average.
The Cardinals have only qualified two players above .739, but if we expand it to 200 ABs, we have five, same as Padres and Dodgers, one less than the Yankees.
August 5, 2022 at 12:06 pm #194133As to Hicks, these days MLB hitters can mostly hit triple digit stuff if its right down broadway.
As to our lineup, the only thing that matters is results, and the only results that matter are runs scored. The Cards rank 7th in MLB in runs scored. I think we have other things to worry about.
