One of the P-D writers was hoping they can get Oviedo out of here before he is ruined forever getting beat up in an MLB rotation before he is ready, having basically skipped AAA. Now some think they are getting ready to do the same with Liberatore, only for him it will be even worse. Skipped AA and a handful of starts in AAA. Desperation needs sacrificial lambs I guess.

What is going on with Liberatore anyway? Is he coming to the big show?

Just some speculation by a couple sports media types. It was mentioned that Liberatore’s next turn in the Memphis rotation is the 29th or 30th I think, and he could take so and so’s spot, etc. Martinez maybe, I don’t remember.

Note that BW has uncharacteristically not posted the threads for the upcoming games beyond tomorrow. Gant is supposedly out of the rotation too but not official yet I don’t think. It would be awkward to put TBA in somebody’s place. Not sure if that is why or he just hasn’t got around to it.

Brewers scored six runs in the 8th and beat the Rockies 10-4 at Miller Park. Redbirds stay seven games behind them.

Cubs and Dodgers are 2-2 going into the last of the 9th at Dodger Stadium. Stay tuned.

Reds down the Braves at Cynergy Field by the score of…..heck, I forget.

These were all the Saturday results, of course.

UPDATE: Dodgers down the Cubs 3-2 on a two out bottom of the 9th solo homer by Bellinger. And the Reds score was 4-1 over Atlanta.

I forgot to mention that LeBlanc is the speculated starter in place of Gant. So I speculate that the speculation is LeBlanc for Gant and Liberatore for Martinez.

Good to get a win finally, but not a very inspiring one. A continuing sluggish offense, and we only win when Wainwright pitches.

7 games out with 3 teams to climb over is not reason for optimism. But a lot of games left. Crazy things have happened, although the odds are against it.

Not time to throw in the towel as once we get Flaherty back, and maybe Mikolas could pitch in say August or September, things could look different.

But if we are 13 games out by then, it may not matter. Then again, the ‘51 Giants were 13 1/2 out in mid August and went to the World Series. Again, odds are this is a mediocre season, but baseball is a funny game as a former Cardinal player and broadcaster famously quoted.

    1. Dylan Carlson (S) CF
    2. Paul Goldschmidt (R) 1B
    3. Nolan Arenado (R) 3B
    4. Tyler O’Neill (R) LF
    5. Yadier Molina (R) C
    6. Tommy Edman (S) 2B
    7. Lars Nootbaar (L) RF
    8. Paul DeJong (R) SS
    9. Johan Oviedo (R) P

It worked with Wainwright pitching, it should work with Oviedo pitching, correct?

I’ve been watching baseball for a long, long time – and can’t fathom how a professional pitcher can walk 4 batters in the 1st inning. Can someone help me understand?

I think it most often happens when they don’t throw any strikes.

I have been watching a long time as well, and do not recall ever seeing a stretch like this where a team’s pitchers just do not throw strikes.

Maybe the ‘62 Mets did that, but I was just getting started following the game and do not know. They had problems everywhere being an expansion team.

Right now I would say this is a worst Cardinal team we since the last place 1990 squad. That was the team Whitey Herzog walked out on, being upset that guys did not seem to care whether they were winning or losing.

I can’t ever remember this many walks from a Cardinal pitching staff.

Man, I thought even Molina would beat that one out. Great play by Hayes not giving up on it.

cranny, it is not hard to understand in this case. You take a AA pitcher and put him in the bigs. He finds out that no matter how hard he throws, if he catches too much of the plate they will knock his head off. He has not yet, if he ever will, learn how to reliably catch the black so he errs on the side of not getting his head knocked off. I am sure that if you were that guy you would do the same.

Edman Ks on ball 4. Pitch nowhere close – these guys are really in a funk.

This Pirates pitcher is not only having his 1st major league start –
He’s only had 3 starts at AA and 4 starts at AAA. Can anyone explain why we aren’t knocking him all over the lot.

Edman went 0fer 4 yesterday, 0fer 5 the day before, just struck out again now. It is obviously all Albert’s fault.

Here 10 miles SW of the ballpark the sky is quite dark to the west and thunder is rumbling. Heading this way.

Bling – All the way up thru the minor leagues he’s been taught to pitch to the corners. I pitched 4 years in college and had to do that. It doesn’t excuse walking 4 men in the first inning of a ballgame.
    Let your defense help you.

For the first time in their career lighting up the gun isn’t enough.

Congrats on the 4 year college career. I lasted less than one, got T-boned driving and broke my hip.

This team is in a funk and in all aspects of the game. Cannot remember a Cardinal team that has struggled as much has this one has in June. These games are hard to watch.

Yeah, another 4 inning start for our guy and theirs has faced the minimum thru 4. We suck coming and going.
