Need to get another win in this one. The Cubs are starting to get hot and there’s a good chance we will lose at least two of three this weekend. Especially with Fletcher going in this one.

And I also agree, Williams is out of his league as we speak. He needs some more time in Memphis.

And about din-din today. Even though I am on that diet I am still going to the Amish restaurant. Just wont quite eat as much. Maybe I’ll luck out today and they will actually have sweet potatoes.

Oh, in case anyone missed it. Pujols came to bat last night in the 7th inning with the bases loaded and one out. He got hit by the first pitch to force in a run. The next batter, Lux, hit a grand slam.

Rats, what is it with this? Is there something I’m missing to where you call Flaherty “Fletcher?” It seems odd.

Quite common for those on that diet…. but ya gotta give Rats some big time credit for taking on the challenge.

Sorry, for some reason I think of Fletcher when referencing Flaherty. I usually catch myself awhile later but since you can’t Edit after a few minutes I have no way of fixing that. Used to sort of be the same when I was talking about Aroldis Chapman. It used to come out Arnold Chapman.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Edman in the outfield so we could see Sosa and Moroff for a while.

I see a long string of night games in my future – even over the weekend – which push first pitch past my bedtime over here, leaving me with next-day ketchup box score and mlb replay. I have no Amish restaurant to give me solace, so I made do tonight with a spinach quiche, leafy salad and iced tea, then suffered the killer glare of wifey as I poured chocolate sauce over a bowl of Hagen Daz vanilla ice cream.

Let’s take advantage of this Pittsburgh visit for some serious batting practice tonight.

    Rah Cardinals!

As I mentioned on the game thread last night, it looked like Williams was coming along back in April, then regressed some. Last night was embarrassing though. I know the game is tougher than it looks to us, but how can you consistently take strikes, and swing at pitches that are not close – pitches you should be able to see will not be a strike right after release?

Time for another Thomas audition, to see if maybe this time he gets it and starts to build some confidence.

Really like Sosa – hits the ball hard. Have not seen enough of him on defense. He might be a little weak going to his left, but I just do not know. He needs to be in there every day while DeJong is out so we can see what we have in this guy. My impression is that he will hit better than DeJong, but DeJong may be better on defense. Need to get Sosa the reps so we have an idea though.

That din-din of your’s is half Ewell Gibbons – half RatsBuddy (the dessert part), Cardinal in France. I give Rat about a week on this new diet of his and then he’ll return to his normal diet of rib-rye in the air fryer, potatoes smothered in beef gravy, two bags of Cheetos, green beans, large piece of cake with strawberry drizzle, 2 ice cream sandwiches, orange Sunkist and a large El Palma Cuban stogie. My din-din tonight is certainly nothing to jump up and down about. Broiled cod, baby red potatoes and Breyers chocolate peanut butter ice cream, put in a large bowl with a big splash of whole milk…..well I guess this Din-Din isn’t too shabby after all.

Want to make some money tonight? Bet the opposite way I go. That’s 3 misses in a row for me….. which is about the same odds of you hitting the Mega million jackpot this coming Friday night. It just isn’t suppose to happen. I’ll get off the proverbial schneid this evening with my prediction of 10-4 Cards. I see Carlson not yanking one homer…..but two…..10-4 Birds your merry final.

Williams is still in the lineup? As bad as he has looked lately???

And on a west coast note…..I do NOT expect Pujols to be in the starting lineup tonight against Arizona.

I don’t like the same lineup. I’d rather have sosa batting 6th, then bader and Williams. Would prefer someone other than Williams but you almost have to get a diamond tipped drill and get it though shildts head, look how long it took for carpenter to stay on the bench.

Thought Thomas would get a start tonight, but no doubt Shidlt is giving Williams a chance to redeem himself. He does not want him sitting after that dreadful show yesterday.

But I agree with 1982willie on the batting order. I would also flip Arenado and Goldschmidt. Arenado is having a classic #3 hitter season. But maybe Shidlt is channeling Ralph Houk when he hit Maris third, and Mick four.

On the prediction, Pugs is giving the Bucs too many runs with Flaherty (Fletcher?) going. I don’t think we get to double figures either. In fact with no hitters occurring about every week this season, I will go with 6-0 Cardinals, and Jack flirting with a no-no. He will lose it late though, and end up giving up a single hit in 8 innings of work. He will receive the obligatory standing-o as he walks off the mound after completing the top of the eighth, with a tomato can coming in and blanking the Bucs in the 9th to complete the shutout.

With Goldy having a slow start, maybe Shildt likes Arenado protecting him.

Yeah, that could be jj – plus we are playing well since going to that order so he probably figures why change.

Goldy doubles to drive in Edman after his double. Flaherty type run support would be a fine way to exit PIT.

    top of 2nd:
    Bader walks and steals 2B
    Williams walks
    Sosa HBP, sacks full

Flaherty sac fly, Bader scores, Williams to 3B, 2-0 STL
    Sosa steals 2B

Edman singles, Williams and Sosa score, 4-0 STL
    Carlson walks, Edman to 2B
Goldy singles, Edman scores, Carlson to 2B, 5-0 STL
Arenado singles, Carlson scores, Goldy to 3B, 6-0 STL
    Molina DP ends the inning

    Flaherty run support!

Well lots of runs tonight. But flaherty is on the mound, so that is the norm.

I mean Cardinals have scored a lot of runs. Funny thing is I don’t think flaherty has really pitched good this year. I’m old school and I believe in win/ loss stat but not this year with flaherty. He’s just been off, hopefully he gets it together. We need him for big games against equal or better talent.

I am guessing Wilmer Difo is the first “Wilmer” the Pirates have had on their big league roster since we traded them Wilmer “Vinegar Bend” Mizell back in 1960.

That turned out to be the old axiom “trade that helped both teams.” The Bucs may not have won it all in ‘60 without him, and we got a darn good second baseman for the next decade in Julian Javier.

Okay, so far between the Cards and minor league affiliates they have walked 30 plus the rest of Cards game, and the 2nd Peoria game. Memphis pitchers 8 and won while Palm Beach walked 10 and lost.

Flaherty is over 90 pitches in a game he shouldn’t be that high through 5. He’s probably done, good thing Cardinals have off day tomorrow.
