Good jobs by Sosa and Gant. Maybe this will keep Sosa in the lineup. Gant threw 58 pitches, but no walks thru 4.

Williams was coming on in his first stint of playing time, then leveled off.

He really looks bad tonight. Swinging at balls below the knees, and watching pitches go by that are in the zone. I look for Thomas to get another shot here soon.

Hopefully O’Neill is not out too long.

Justin Williams going for a golden sombrero next ab.

Team really needs a left handed hitting of to compliment Bader and the oft injured O’Neill.

Newman and Frazier are really nice players. It’s still early, but Pittsburgh has taken a good step forward this year. They could be tough in a couple of years or so.

Ouch, close call there with that shot right back at him. Gant has the presence of mind to get the force at third, and is out with Cabby coming on to face Polanco.

I don’t know why our pitchers just can’t pitch at times

I just don’t know why Justin Williams goes one knee on the 2 breaking pitches he got on strike 3.

Golden Sombrero achieved! This dude is out of his league. Get him outta here!

To say Justin Williams is overmatched at this level is a gross understatement!

Well bottom part of the order hasn’t really got it done tonight. Had some scoring opportunities. Sosa has done well, he should have probably batted 7th or even 6th. Bader is much improved far as contact and such but I still think he struggles with runners in scoring position. Not everyone can handle that well. Williams hasn’t been hitting well at all. So maybe with oneil out probably two weeks at least, I think we need Thomas out there.

I don’t really get nogowski. The book or at least what everyone talked about with him was that he tended to take pitches and work counts, wasn’t afraid to walk. But mostly every time I see him hit, he’s swinging at first pitch. I’m not a big fan of that unless you are really facing a tough pitcher, which he wasn’t here. I think he needs to see more pitches to be successful. He can’t play multiple positions so he needs to show he can pinch hit.

Well great pitching overall, some timely hitting. Good to get back on winning track.

The caption under the picture in the P-D story says “Cardinal outfielder Edmundo Sosa . .”

    Really?

It’s good to win the games you are supposed to. Gant worked his magic again and the bats struck early. That Nolan Arenado guy has been worth the price of the trade so far, huh? I like Sosa’s defense at SS, hope he can get a little playing time even when Dejong comes back.

Last night Gant was the pitcher we have been used to seeing the last couple of years. He relied much more on the fastball instead of all of the off speed junk, therefore issued only one walk.

I agree that Williams looks overmatched. I would rather see Austin Dean come back up and play everyday in LF until O’Neal gets back.

Isn’t Thomas up now? I’d be happier to see him get himself a better shot. At least he provides good defense and base running, if he ever gets on.
