Hicks with a nice inning! Can the ‘pen bring this one home? It will all depend on throwing strikes.
And maybe the offense will get some additional runs, although we probably need to get Nola out of there.
I am not real big on using a new reliever every inning like Shildt, and others, tend to do. I would have brought Hicks out for the 7th since he looked good.
Who we consider our bench players, Knizner, Sosa and Carp, are trying to win this game vs Nola, but the pen just won’t hear of it. KK just robbed of a win.
Yeah – I think as a manager you have to watch how your pitchers are doing, and if they look like they “have it”, bring them out there for a second inning.
This auto-program mentality where a guy can only throw one inning is risky.
Indeed CIF. You need to watch your pitchers closely, and be ready to pull a guy if he is not finding the plate, and go with a guy if he is effective.
Don’t manage by “this guy in this inning”, “that guy in the next inning”, etc.
My overall impression in watching the Cardinals is the coaches do not work real close with guys. I wonder on offense as well whether the hitting coach actually goes through ABs with guys and shows them where they might want to adjust next time.
Double freaking plays are killing us this series. This junk Phillies bullpen is walking the tightrope once again.
Williams must go to the bench! Watching him play it Is obvious he is not ready for the major leagues!
I agree on Williams. I thought he was ready to put it together about 10 days ago, but he has really struggled of late. He will go down when Bader returns unless he has a great series in Pittsburgh.
I like that the Phillies are honoring the late great Richie “Dick” Allen. He went through a lot with that organization.
