Now Hicks better locate and throw strikes or this one will fall apart again like last night.
April 29, 2021 at 1:58 pm #159586Decorum prevents me from explaining where the flying pig came from.
April 29, 2021 at 2:08 pm #159587Hicks with a nice inning! Can the ‘pen bring this one home? It will all depend on throwing strikes.
And maybe the offense will get some additional runs, although we probably need to get Nola out of there.

jj-cf-stlParticipantAfter the Sosa IBB, STL had a 39.1% win expectancy. After the Carpenter 3 run HR, 80.4%
April 29, 2021 at 2:17 pm #159591I am not real big on using a new reliever every inning like Shildt, and others, tend to do. I would have brought Hicks out for the 7th since he looked good.
April 29, 2021 at 2:21 pm #159592Agreed. Miller always makes me nervous.
That pitch to Cutch was 78mph dog meat.
April 29, 2021 at 2:26 pm #159593
stlcard25ParticipantMiller, a batting practice pitcher. Gonna be up to the rest of the pen to salvage the game.
April 29, 2021 at 2:31 pm #159594
jj-cf-stlParticipantWho we consider our bench players, Knizner, Sosa and Carp, are trying to win this game vs Nola, but the pen just won’t hear of it. KK just robbed of a win.
April 29, 2021 at 2:32 pm #159595Yeah – I think as a manager you have to watch how your pitchers are doing, and if they look like they “have it”, bring them out there for a second inning.
This auto-program mentality where a guy can only throw one inning is risky.
April 29, 2021 at 2:37 pm #159596I’m with you Bike. I can’t figure this new pitcher every inning philosophy.
April 29, 2021 at 2:43 pm #159597Indeed CIF. You need to watch your pitchers closely, and be ready to pull a guy if he is not finding the plate, and go with a guy if he is effective.
Don’t manage by “this guy in this inning”, “that guy in the next inning”, etc.
My overall impression in watching the Cardinals is the coaches do not work real close with guys. I wonder on offense as well whether the hitting coach actually goes through ABs with guys and shows them where they might want to adjust next time.

stlcard25ParticipantDouble freaking plays are killing us this series. This junk Phillies bullpen is walking the tightrope once again.
April 29, 2021 at 2:44 pm #159599Williams must go to the bench! Watching him play it Is obvious he is not ready for the major leagues!
April 29, 2021 at 2:44 pm #159600Miller teetering into Carp territory
April 29, 2021 at 2:49 pm #159601I agree on Williams. I thought he was ready to put it together about 10 days ago, but he has really struggled of late. He will go down when Bader returns unless he has a great series in Pittsburgh.
I like that the Phillies are honoring the late great Richie “Dick” Allen. He went through a lot with that organization.
April 29, 2021 at 2:50 pm #159602Tommy Edman is good.
April 29, 2021 at 3:06 pm #159603
stlcard25ParticipantReyes does his job. Now we have our big bats up with a chance to walk off. Let’s go get a win.
April 29, 2021 at 3:06 pm #159604I predict this ninth inning will get to O’Neill, who will walk it off with a home run.
April 29, 2021 at 3:15 pm #159605Well, half right.
April 29, 2021 at 3:15 pm #159606I’m afraid O’neill returned to form – 3Ks.
April 29, 2021 at 3:22 pm #159607Nice play Carlson!
April 29, 2021 at 3:22 pm #159608
jj-cf-stlParticipantO’Neill will be a good runner to have on 2B to start the inning.
April 29, 2021 at 3:23 pm #159609
jj-cf-stlParticipantanyone for some small ball?
April 29, 2021 at 3:24 pm #159610
jj-cf-stlParticipantgot him over…..
April 29, 2021 at 3:27 pm #159611I was 3/4 right. O’Neill scored the winning run.
