Guess the new upgrades didnt solve that problem.

stlcard25ParticipantOff days are nice and all for the players to ease into the season, but man it stinks having to wait two years for a real Opening Day, seeing a good ballgame and then having to wait two days to watch again. Hopefully the team is putting their day off to good use and ready to hit some dingers again on Saturday.
April 2, 2021 at 7:52 am #156838The schedule includes an open day two on purpose to have a backup day in case the season opener is rained out. Given all the festivities and planning, it would not be fair to all of the sudden make Game 2 Game 1, for example.
It was needed in Boston due to rain yesterday. The Mets at Nats was also postponed due to COVID, but it seems they will not be allowed to go today, either.
(Rats, do you not see the irony in posts that complain about not being able to post? There is a special thread that has always been pinned to the top of the board specifically for site issues. That is a much better place to bring your concerns than a game thread such as this. Thank you.)
April 2, 2021 at 12:14 pm #156858Well, That was refreshing yesterday. seeing all those baseballs flying around and guys with red birds on their shirts running the bases like they knew where to find home plate. What did we learn from opening day? We learned there is an offense hidden in there and if these guys eat their vegetables there is a good chance it will emerge more frequently. It also showed our “ace” ain’t. At least not yet. He’ll have to dig his ERA out of the hole wherein he dropped it. But hey, one game does not a season make. Give him a mulligan off the first start. We won didn’t we? It’s baseball, friends! And the prospect of another warm and fuzzy win awaits us Saturday in Cincinnati.
Rah CardinalsApril 2, 2021 at 12:49 pm #156860Thanks CIF. And btw I’m having Quiche Lorraine for lunch as soon as my dear wife says it’s ready.
April 2, 2021 at 1:49 pm #156862SoCal: Yum. Love that stuff. Unfortunately tonight was leftovers night for us. Will try to do better before tomorrow’s game.
April 3, 2021 at 10:13 am #156905Weather will be much better today in Cincinnati. Highs around the low 60s. Perfect weather for pitchers. We might see a low scoring game today. Me and Whitey Herdog will be sitting on the couch and tuning in along with a cigar.
For din-din today it will be a center cut rib chop, some chopped up hot dogs in bar-b-q sauce, bread and butter, Sunkist Orange, and a piece of banana cream pie from the Gasthof, the Amish restaurant.

April 3, 2021 at 10:41 am #156907Today I have some made from scratch chili to spoon over the Ballpark Fransk. The weber kettle has a nice pile of peanut shells in it from Thursday so I’m ready to rumble. One of my sons is making up his annual batch of homemade kraut for the home opener foot long wieners. Cold frosty Bud on the menu as well.
April 3, 2021 at 10:44 am #1569081. Tommy Edman (S) 2B
2. Paul Goldschmidt (R) 1B
3. Nolan Arenado (R) 3B
4. Paul DeJong (R) SS
5. Tyler O’Neill (R) LF
6. Yadier Molina (R) C
7. Dylan Carlson (S) CF
8. Justin Williams (L) RF
9. Adam Wainwright (R) PApril 3, 2021 at 11:48 am #156910Something tells me that DeJong better produce and soon or he will find himself down in the order very quickly. I still think this is the best lineup:
Edman
Carlson
Arenado
Goldschmidt
O’Neill
Dejong
Molina

April 3, 2021 at 1:03 pm #156912Shildt pregame Saturday:
Pitcher hitting eighth. Won’t move needle a lot either way, not generating any additional runs. Analytics people looked at it. Gets pitcher up sooner, which is not what we want. As TLR has a team to manage, haven’t had many conversations with him lately. He used it with McGwire.
Mikolas heading to alternate site. Threw side yesterday. Hasn’t faced live hitting yet. Progressing.
Kim will throw side on 6th. Might rejoin team in Miami.
Williams is in RF vs. RHP, but Dean will be in there against LHP.

ParticipantWhom did Dean beat out for that OF spot?
April 3, 2021 at 2:46 pm #156917Whom did Dean beat out for that OF spot?
Lane Thomas
April 3, 2021 at 2:47 pm #156918I’m predicting Williams with a multi hit game, and first career homer in the bigs.

ParticipantI thought Mo was high on Lane Thomas.
April 3, 2021 at 3:02 pm #156920Din-Din on this fine Saturday will consist of a fluffy garden salad, wild shrimp cocktail, Alaskan king crab legs, 3 Popeye’s apple cinnamon pies and water.
I’m compelled to call this one 6-4 Reds. We’ll finish double-digit games ahead of these guys by season’s end, but today simply will not be our day. I finished last season with a success rate at 82%, so the odds are decidedly against us…..but needless to say, I would love to start ’21 with an incorrect prediction.April 3, 2021 at 3:10 pm #156921OK first pitch coming up. Lets hope these guys have eaten their Wheaties.
Speaking of eating. Wifey and I kicked off din-din tonight with a lovely bowl of butternut soup and followed that by grilling the last two wild boar steaks in our freezer, accompanied by baked potatoes slathered with butter and sprinkled with parsley and minced garlic, then a nice leafy salad. Topped it all off with some fresh strawberries.
I figure the birds may not be quite as explosive as last night but predict they will nonetheless come away 7-5 victors.

E-gad. The only acceptable thing for ballgame fare is a dog and a beer. And somebody was eating quiche the other day. What is the world coming to.
April 3, 2021 at 3:24 pm #156924Some nice outfield work.
April 3, 2021 at 3:39 pm #156925And somebody was eating quiche the other day. What is the world coming to.
That was me, but you haven’t tasted Karen’s quiche. If you like, think of it like a egg McMuffin.
Besides, it was an off day.
April 3, 2021 at 4:02 pm #156927Times are a changing, Bling. But you’re right, the traditional baseball purist would indulge in a couple of dogs (with no catsup!), a bag of peanuts in the shell and a couple of brewskis to wash it all adequately down. As usual, Cardinal In France has a Din-Din to die for! But what’s with the wild boar as the main entree, Cardinal In France? I’ve never consumed any….it sounds like it might be a little tough to chew.
