1:20 p.m.
LHP J.A. Happ (9-8, 6.02) vs. LHP Justin Steele (3-3, 4.20)
ESPN // BSM // KMOX
Also BSSW+ in Oklahoma and Arkansas and BSSO in TN, KY and MSSeptember 24, 2021 at 5:47 am #173299Hate day/night double headers. I get that they want two gates but real men play them back to back.
September 24, 2021 at 7:04 am #173301“Real men” also don’t play 7 inning baseball games too, Bling. We’ll have to check with Skippy & Co. over at the esteemed Elias Sports Bureau for unequivocal accuracy, but I believe I once read where ML doubleheaders end up in splits 74% of the time, which doesn’t bode well for our winning streak remaining intact come Saturday morning. But these are the new St. Louis Cardinals squaring off vs these new unimproved Chicago cubs. Make no bones about it, this is one lame ragtag bunch of uninspiring players that Chicago fans find themselves trying to muster up cheers for. But this Schwindell chap of theirs in on one heck of a hitting tear and thus must be somewhat contained. We are not going to stop him….. that’s a surety. Cardinal pitchers must not be afraid to walk this guy.
September 24, 2021 at 7:34 am #173302I agree completely bling. I remember watching Paul DeJong being interviewed after a double header earlier this year and he said everyone in the clubhouse would much rather just start the second game right after the first one ends. No one liked just waiting around. The 7 inning thing I don’t mind nearly as much as the gap in between games.
September 24, 2021 at 7:44 am #173304I lost track of the Hudson situation. Are we expecting a roster move today?
Also, I guess we will see some bench guys get in a starting lineup today. Some paltry batting averages there, but maybe they could catch fire too.
September 24, 2021 at 8:31 am #173306
stlcard25ParticipantBB, Hudson is on call, as they say. It would probably depend on the pitching situation today. Sounded like they wanted him to get more work but then realized they had 11 games in 10 days and may not want to burn a multi inning guy in the minors if they need him.
September 24, 2021 at 9:24 am #173311Since they have the doubleheader and are allowed another player, I wouldn’t mind seeing Hudson piggyback with Flaherty in the first game. Hopefully they would only need those two to pitch in the first game. Then in the second game, they could treat the staff like it was the only game of the day.
September 24, 2021 at 10:05 am #173316The Cubs still have a fairly potent offense. The key will be to ambush their beleaguered pitching staff. We need to jump on them early and set the tone.
I kind of liked the 7 inning DH’s at first but no more. I hope they go back to 9 innings next year.
September 24, 2021 at 10:30 am #173318
stlcard25ParticipantI still like the snappiness of the 7 inning DHs. Like others, I don’t like the big gap between games. Let em get some lunch and a round with the trainer and get back out there. No more than an hour between games.
September 24, 2021 at 10:33 am #173319
stlcard25ParticipantWell this is a shift: #Cardinals had advertised Flaherty as 29th. It will be Hudson evidently. He’s set to go in whatever role … https://t.co/bBjmFgZdrh

September 24, 2021 at 10:53 am #173320Just cant take the cubs lightly.
September 24, 2021 at 11:20 am #173322I am going to assume that both Hudson and Flaherty are NOT being rushed back too soon???
And to celebrate the 12 game winning streak my din-din today is another trip this week to the Gasthof, the Amish restaurant. Starting at 4:00 on Friday’s they have those catfish fiddlers and I usually eat 5-6 of them. Along with mashed potatoes/gravy, green beans, dressing, cherry cobbler, soft serve ice cream. Then off to the football game, Evansville Central at Jasper.

September 24, 2021 at 11:21 am #173323Real men play back to back doubleheaders, real men play two 9-inning doubleheaders, real men don’t start extra innings with a man on second (the stupidest of all these stupid new ideas) and real men thrash the Chicago Cubs with great alacrity.
September 24, 2021 at 12:01 pm #173324So what are the chances we see Dakota actually pitch today in everyone’s estimation?
September 24, 2021 at 12:02 pm #173325Catfish diddlers vs Jasper football. That sounds like a helluva matchup. I’m jealous. Go Cards now dammit. I’d LOVE a repeat of the last late season meaningful series vs the Cubs.

ParticipantHere it is top of third and Cardinals still haven’t scored against the worthless cubs. Just typical for our guys to always play horrible against them. You’d think a team that managed to hit the good pitching of the brewers could really pound on these guys.
September 24, 2021 at 2:06 pm #173331Goldy Bomb. He is making a late run at NL MVP. Should be Top 10 at least.
September 24, 2021 at 2:07 pm #173332Goldy is still hot!
September 24, 2021 at 2:08 pm #173333We need to be scoring early like that in these 7 inning games…
September 24, 2021 at 2:14 pm #1733341982 willie
ParticipantWell finally got some runs on table. Got to get these guys early. Especially with these 7 inning games which I don’t like. Especially makes no sense when you are playing split double headers and charging same price.
September 24, 2021 at 2:16 pm #173335Nice DP.
September 24, 2021 at 2:18 pm #173336Was it a game here in Chicago that the umps said we took to much time for a review????
Well…. the Cubs just spent about 35 seconds with no definitive answer as to what they wanted to do.
They went to commercial… so I guess they timed out…. no review.
