Does anyone know why the Sunday game starts at 3pm CT (4pm ET)? That seems very odd considering it is a get away day. Does it conflict with a Steelers game or something?
All I know is that when the original 60-game schedule came out, this game was only one which had TBD instead of the actual game time. It remained TBD in the post-COVID 58-game redo. The Steelers play at 1 pm ET at home (with no fans) so avoiding the two games at the same time for TV is a reasonable guess.
Well, let’s see if Jack can bounce back from his poor outing last time and clinch the series. It would be nice to see the Cards win 4 games they should against the Pirates. It feels like the Cards have hit Musgrove well in the past. Paul Dejong has not, for sure (.063 career average). I’d give him a breather. My preferred lineup:

SS Edman
1B Goldy
DH Miller
LF O’Neill
C Yadi (unless hurt, then Knizner)
3B Carp
RF Carlson
CF BaderLosing the first game of a 5 game series……and then coming right back to win the next 4….on the road. As far as rarities go, it certainly does not measure up to a 56 game hitting streak, 714 homers, or even 2 grand slams in an inning by the same player. But, I think it’s not as common as one may think. Matter of fact, maybe if we reflected back many decades thru baseball annals, we may not discover it’s occurrence. Unless one of you know, this may be a task for Augustus and our good friends over at the esteemed Elias Sports Bureau to tackle.
What do you guys think of Verlander’s chances of ever being a quality starting pitcher again?

I wouldn’t count him out. He would be 39 when he comes back in 2022. He could still have something left in the tank. Look at Waino.
By the way he is owed $33M next year and now can’t pitch. The Astros had better have insurance on him. Ouch. That is a budget killer.

Bader looked poor at the plate last night, good choice to sit himWong may be tired or still feeling the effects of his hurt side but I would rather see him in the lineup than Carp. Every PA Carp gets allows him to get closer to vesting in 2022. I know he still must get 550 PA’s next year but still why take chances? It isn’t like he is contributing much anyway.
This starting hurler from Pittsburgh “Mus-groove” a pitch or two every game with such a lofty era. Let’s not make him look like the second coming of Dock Ellis, like we’ve been known to do.
