45 minutes after Game 1
LHP Austin Gomber (0-0, 0.52, tentative) vs. RHP Chad Kuhl (1-2, 5.50)
FS Midwest // KMOXNote: The Cardinals are the home team in this makeup contest from August 12.
September 17, 2020 at 9:06 pm #140567Daniel Ponce de Leon is the new Cardinals starter (on sort rest).
Shildt said that Ponce had been penciled in to start here before, but it would have been Gomber instead had he not been needed tonight. And then Ponce would have been used in relief. But as soon as Gomber went in tonight, Ponce knew this would be his start to make.

stlcard25ParticipantWhat the heck kind of lineup can you even put out there for game 2? Dejong clearly needs a game off, but then you have Edman moving to SS, and Carp at 3B, who probably needs a game off too with his cold streak. Carlson will get a start, and probably O’Neill too, who had a nice game 1. Maybe O’Neill-Carlson-Ravelo/Williams? I wish we had Knizner activated. I hate having Wieters starting.

stlcard25ParticipantGame 2 Lineup-If You Thought Game 1’s Defense Was Shaky… Edition
K Wong (L) 2B
T Edman (S) RF
P Goldschmidt (R) DH
B Miller (L) 3B
P DeJong (R) SS
T O’Neill (R) LF
M Carpenter (L) 1B
D Carlson (S) CF
M Wieters (S) CSeptember 18, 2020 at 6:46 pm #140760
stlcard25ParticipantPitchers after Ponce who would seem to be available:
Crismatt
Fernandez*
Miller*
Webb*
Woodford*-Pitched yesterday.
Elledge pitched two days in a row so he’s presumed out. Webb pitched 1-2/3 yesterday. So your order is probably Ponce, then Woodford, and Miller if it’s a tight game. Crismatt and Fernandez if it’s a big lead either way.
September 18, 2020 at 6:53 pm #140762We may have five errors this game.
September 18, 2020 at 7:08 pm #140763We desperately need the Jekyll version of Ponce tonight. And along with that make him only have to get three outs in an inning.
September 18, 2020 at 7:34 pm #140767The Cards need to get at least five innings out of Ponce.
September 18, 2020 at 7:36 pm #140768Boy I tell ya, Paulie is having a rough evening.
September 18, 2020 at 7:38 pm #140769Murderers row up for the Cards: Carp, Dylan and Weiters.
September 18, 2020 at 7:42 pm #140770“Cool” Chad Kuhl mowing down the St. Louis lineup so far.
September 18, 2020 at 7:43 pm #140772
stlcard25ParticipantChad Kuhl has a perfect game going so far. He’s not even at 30 pitches. Ponce has been decent, getting through 3 on 43 pitches.
September 18, 2020 at 7:45 pm #140774Like the bunt by Wong – just did not quite get there. Carpenter needs to do that once in awhile.
September 18, 2020 at 7:47 pm #1407752021 is going to be a very special year for we Cardinal fans. Since 2006, I’ve never steered you guys wrong yet. Go Birds!
September 18, 2020 at 7:51 pm #140776I like your optimism Pugs. I think 2022 will be the year when we become a force again but I hope you are right and it happens a year early.
September 18, 2020 at 7:52 pm #140777Wow, the Cardinals defense tonite has been interesting.
September 18, 2020 at 7:54 pm #140778PDL has great stuff. If he can develop good command, he could come on and pitch for a stretch like Flaherty did the second half of last year. Just needs to keep his pitch count down.
September 18, 2020 at 7:56 pm #140779Ponce through four and looking good! Keep it up Daniel, your team needs you to eat innings!
September 18, 2020 at 7:58 pm #140780
stlcard25ParticipantPonce with 7 Ks through the 4th. He’s kept the pitch count acceptable with 65. Would be good to get 6 innings from him. It would also be good to see the offense hit this bum Kuhl for a few runs.
September 18, 2020 at 8:00 pm #140781It would be nice to have a legitimate threat to bat behind Goldy.
September 18, 2020 at 8:01 pm #140782Two on, no one out. Gotta do something here to support Ponce.
September 18, 2020 at 8:02 pm #140783
stlcard25ParticipantThe first two are on. Good start to the 4th.
September 18, 2020 at 8:06 pm #140784How can Miller swing at that? Man, we would have had bases full no out!
September 18, 2020 at 8:07 pm #140785
stlcard25ParticipantBrad Miller had 1 pitch in the zone that at bat, and 7 out of the zone. He managed to find a way to strike out.
September 18, 2020 at 8:07 pm #140786Strike out hurts … Miller unable to advance the runners.
