Gyroko has a history of burning his former teams. He used to roast the Padres when he played with us.
September 14, 2020 at 9:07 pm #140148Ponce two runs thru 4 innings … 71 pitches … on pace to throw 89 pitches thru five complete. The fifth inning is probably his final inning.
September 14, 2020 at 9:09 pm #140150Overall this is really not a bad outing for Ponce. He made the one mistake but we need the bats to come alive.
Speaking of cool bats a couple of us stated last week we would probably not offer a deal next year to Brad Miller because his numbers probably weren’t sustainable. He was hitting .320 at one time. He is now hitting .257.
September 14, 2020 at 9:14 pm #140151Some like to point out the failures of the OFs. How about today’s stats:
OF – 8 of the 29 left on base.
Goldy, Miller, DeJong – 14 of the 29 left on base. It’s not just about the OF.
September 14, 2020 at 9:18 pm #140152
stlcard25ParticipantGoldy is hitting .217 in the last week, .240 in the last 15 days. Miller is hitting .158 in the last week, .208 in the last 15 days.
September 14, 2020 at 9:20 pm #140153This home plate ump is terrible for both teams. He is a joke.
September 14, 2020 at 9:22 pm #140154
stlcard25Participant8 base runners for the Cards through 4-2/3 innings and it’s looking likely that it will result in 0 runs. The situational hitting by this team is awful tonight.
September 14, 2020 at 9:23 pm #140155Please pinch hit.
September 14, 2020 at 9:23 pm #140156
stlcard25ParticipantMake that 9 base runners. Will anyone finally come through with something?
September 14, 2020 at 9:28 pm #140157Infield hit drives in a run … bases still loaded.
September 14, 2020 at 9:29 pm #140158
stlcard25ParticipantThankfully O’Neill hit it light enough to beat the throw.
September 14, 2020 at 9:30 pm #140159Pick up a run, but leave the bases loaded.
September 14, 2020 at 9:30 pm #140160Man, O’Neill can fly! Not what he wanted, but he hustled and easily beat that play.
September 14, 2020 at 9:31 pm #140161
stlcard25Participant11 base runners in 5 innings should score more than 1 run. Unclutch, it is.
September 14, 2020 at 9:33 pm #140162The Reds swept the Pirates tonight. If we get swept by the Brewers both of those teams are going to be all over us. A very tenuous situation obviously.
September 14, 2020 at 9:37 pm #140163Ponce 81 pitches thru five innings giving up two runs. Has kept his team in a position to win if they can score.
September 14, 2020 at 9:38 pm #140165Have the Crew switched back to these ‘80s style uni’s as their primary look? Those MB mitt-ball hat logos have always been popular.
September 14, 2020 at 9:38 pm #140166The starters today get an A+ in game 1, and an A- in game 2. The offense is an F so far. Hope that changes.
September 14, 2020 at 9:42 pm #140167Nice job by O’Neill beating out that dribbler to short to produce an RBI. Made up for his failure to score from second earlier on that Wieters hit. Call it even.
Lane Thomas seems like a great kid. I pull for him. But I just don’t see it.
Man we need to pull this one out somehow. Only one run down, but it feels like more.
September 14, 2020 at 9:52 pm #140168Ponce goes six and allows two runs. Good game Daniel!
September 14, 2020 at 9:54 pm #140169
stlcard25ParticipantThis is about the best we could hope for from Ponce. He was way more efficient than usual and let his swing and miss stuff work. When right, he is a 5-6 inning starter with some walks but a good number of Ks. Long term, I still think he’s better off as a reliever in the Gant mold, but he at least spared the bullpen from being totally chewed up with a gutsy start.
September 14, 2020 at 10:00 pm #140170Thank you Goldy and Miller!
September 14, 2020 at 10:01 pm #140171
stlcard25ParticipantFinally some clutch hitting! Goldy with the double and Miller drives him home. Bader now in to pinch run from 2nd.
September 14, 2020 at 10:03 pm #140172First and third with no one out. They gotta make something happen.
September 14, 2020 at 10:04 pm #140173
stlcard25Participant1st and 3rd, nobody out. Let’s drive in the winning run, Ravelo.
