We need one more inning out of Oviedo then maybe give Elledge and Kaminsky some work so everyone else can be ready for the onslaught of upcoming games.
Oviedo pitched decently. The Redbirds defense let him down there. Should be leaving the game down 3-0.
You wonder how the lack of offensive supports effects his pitching. The Cards have put little to no pressure on Hendricks and the Cubs.

Very few Cubs are more frustrating than Cy Hendricks. 56 year old Roger Clemens throws about as fast as he does, but he gets the job done against the Cardinals. He’s in line to possibly throw a complete game shutout tonight.
well some bad defense today has let this game get away. Im not sure it would matter, cardinals just cant really figure hendricks out. I personally think there were some pitches to hit that we missed but oh well. Oviedo pitched ok, though with better situational pitching i think he could have only given up one run maybe two. The last two were definitely on carpenter and wong. Just a bad throw by carpenter and a case where wongs underhand throwing is a lesson for those young and learning not to replicate that cause thats what can happen with that style of throwing.
Wieters finally gets a hit and the Cards finally score a run. With an extra base hit in this inning it could become a ball game.
I don’t like waiving the white flag but letting Elledge and Kaminsky finish this game is the smart move even if they give up some runs. We need to live to fight another day.
miller and carpenter both could use some pointers on hitting to an open left side of the field especially if they are going to pitch you away.
Wonder what would happen if Carpenter hit one on the left side for once.
I miss the Matt Carpenter who drove pitches all over the field and into gaps for doubles, and was a pitcher’s nightmare as a guy with as good an eye as there is out there. He still has the eye, but the bat just doesn’t cooperate and he seems a step behind the pitcher in every situation except the bases loaded. It would be for the best for the team if he plays very little the rest of this year and next to get out from under that big vesting option in 2022. Sad for me to say, but it’s the truth. We need to make room for some other bats to get to the plate.
I agree with you stlcard25. It appears that Carp’s window has closed. The sooner the organization recognizes it the better off they will be.
Well stlcard25. i totally agree. At best carpenter should be a DH. But from what ive read they are just going to keep putting him out there. One of the problems is edman hasnt looked as good at third this year. Millers defense has been shaky. To be honest, we just faced a really good pitcher today that hit his spots and hopefully we can get the offense back to going tomorrow. three out of five isnt bad in chicago.
