Not a Blues fan so since it is baseball season I guess I have to haul the laptop out to the big TV and hookup for Fox Sports Go just to watch tonights game. Grrr (I am not computer savvy)

    Odds and Ends:
CB Bucknor called a great game Thursday. I criticize him frequently and feel he needs some praise when he is good. The Wednesday HPU does not get such praise. Think he was a rookie fill in for those who opted out.
Ricky Horton does not have have ‘Shutup’ button.
It was nice of Jose Oquendo to use that #91 instead of asking Paul DeJong for his #11.
Lots of kids attending these home games. Judging by look at the cardboard cutouts in the stands.
Good to be back home for the next 11 games.
Positive bug tests really screw up the schedule for both the positive and negative teams.

We could use a good start from Dakota tonight. So far, his propensity to “just win, baby” hasn’t shown up. It would also be nice to knock an opposing starter out of the game early and expose the Reds bullpen some more. Finally, Dylan Carlson needs a day off.

There were some columnists who wrote articles over the winter about how poor Hudson’s peripherals were and that he was due to have a downturn that might even lead to his removal from the rotation and even being optioned to Memphis. I shrugged it off at the time as nonsense but I am beginning to wonder. I know it has only been two starts but he needs to turn things around.

Need to start grinding above .500.

One good hot streak like Cubs has to start the season would be real nice.

Hudson doesn’t have a long track record, but he got off to a very slow start in 2019. 6.08 ERA after three starts. From there, he worked it down in most every start over the following 2 1/2 months. By the end of June, he was at 3.40.

“FOX Sports Midwest Plus is coming soon to AT&T TV and AT&T TV Now.”

AT&T Now is supported in the Fox Sports Go app now. It wasn’t at first, but it’s what I use now since it doesn’t have FSMW Plus.

There’s the day off for Carlson. I don’t like Carp at 3B with a high GB% like Hudson, but Miller had an E5 on a DP ball last night that led to two runs. It’s who we are I guess.

Quietly, I also like the quiet move of slipping Molina into the eighth spot upon his return from IL. 😉

    Some IL updates from Shildt.

Martinez and Helsley are in StL. Carlos bounced back from side yesterday well. Will share plan for him on Sunday.

Hoping Dean and Thomas get cleared tomorrow.

The rest – DeJong, Sosa. Ravelo, Whitley, Fernandez in Springfield.

Hudson with two pitches and two outs. Nice start. Then two more pitches and he retires the side. I’d take a 36 pitch complete game.

Bottom of 1. Tony Descalfani dealing for the Redlegs:

Wong – Grounds it neatly right at Moustakas at 2nd…. scoops it up and flings it over to Votto at 1st for the out.

Edman – Hits it in the air to short left where Winker will trot on in to glove it for out #2.

Goldy- Rifles a hard hit grounder past a diving Galvis at short and out into center for this game’s first hit.

Carp – Rips a liner towards right, but a leaping Galvis will snag it to retire the side. Carp cannot be a fan of the Shift, as he has lost many a hit since it became all the rage a couple of years ago.

    Bottom of 2:

Miller- Brad hits it hard past a diving Joey Votto at 1st, but there’s Galvis once again to lay the leather on it… and he tosses it on over to a streaking DeSalfani at 1st to record the out. Galvis is all over the Field so far in this one….

O’Neill- Tyler strikes out swinging on a 3-2 offspeed pitch.

Fowler- Dexter taps a slow roller in between 1st & 2nd where Votto races over to gather it in and he’ll quickly underhand it on over to his pitcher to just nip the blazing Fowler at 1st to retire the side.

I just need our Birds to bust out their bats so I can really get into the swing of things, Brian. I’m thinking I make it about 4 frames this evening in my 2020 maiden tune-up. Two weeks from now and I’ll be in rare form…..normal form for me.

Goldy had a chance with the bases juiced…and Ks. Marp now up with a shot to keep doing damage with the sacks full.

    Bottom of 3:

Yadi- You know with all the big bucks our Presidential candidates are spending on advertising, it might not be a bad idea for them to lock up about 1000 of these fan cutouts per ballgame. A possible drawback might be how a hurler could concentrate with hundreds of Donald J. Trumps staring right back out at him as he prepares to pitch? Maybe if they bought 1000 at the regular price, the team could give them a free hundred as a bonus… Trump’s freebies for the right field seats and Biden’s down the left field line….Yadi- hits it in the air to left center where Winker will easily track her down for the out.

    Bader- Harrison walks.

Wong- Kolten lays down a dandy a few feet towards 3rd where Suarez has no choice but to put in his hip pocket…..1st & 2nd with only one down now as our Birds threaten to score this game’s first run.

Edman- Tommy gets nailed squarely in the back by a DeSalfani heater…..but he looks none the worse for the experience as he trots on down to take his well deserved place at 1st base. Bases now overflowing with Redbirds!

Goldy- Strikes out swinging….ouch that hurt! Need at least 1 tally here.

Carp- Carp was ahead 3-0 in the count, but Descalfani comes back to put two strikes on him, but then Carp gets the walk….1-0 Good guys.

Miller- Grounds it right at Votto at 1st and he’ll await his pitcher’s arrival to the bag where Joey will underhand it to him to retire the side.

This pitcher is a guy we should be hitting better. Yea he throws a lot of offspeed so you wouldnt think so but it seems fairly easy to pick up, nothing really sharp .

    Bottom of 4:

O’Neill- Tyler grounds it routinely to 3rd where Suarez gobbles it up and fires it to 1st to just get the speedy O’Neill…boy that was close. If Suarez guns that at 79mph instead of 80mph, Tyler is standing on 1st right now.

Fowler- Dexter laces a base hit to center.

Yadi- Bounces it down to Suarez at 3rd, but O’Neill was running on the pitch so the Birds avoid the twin killing…O’Neill perched at 2nd with 2 down.

Bader- Harrison pops it up over near the coaching box at 3rd and that’s as easy as it gets for Suarez and the Cards leave one stranded here in the 4th.

    Reds 0
