Waino finished strong with 15 straight set down. The errors are really the difference at this point or he’d be in line for a no decision at worst.
Yes I said a couple days ago maybe a day off is in the cards for Carlson. Naturally you have to play Bader. If you rather not play either Maybe you get DeJong back and you can put Edman at one of the corners but then again you have to play Fowler or O’Neill in CF.
Carlson is now batting .133 (4-for-30) after striking out in the seventh.
One of my preseason predictions was that he’d be called up and struggle. The Cards just don’t get top prospects who light the league on fire like other teams. Their production tends to come from the unknown guys.
Straight forward question. How can you swing and ground into a DP on a 3-0 count, down by two with a runner on first? In the later innings of a game?
I am not sounding an alarm over Carlson’s career, but what I see is him getting a lot of offspeed stuff that is likely much better placed than any pitching he saw in the Texas League.
Major league pitchers are generally better than AA pitchers. It’s going to take awhile for Carlson the settle in.
When we make the playoffs next month we might look back on tonight’s game as a key. That is a huge comeback win with such a short season.
Is Carlson really ready?
It’s looking like he needed some AAA At bats. He has hit the ball hard at times.
Not everyone gets it the first time. Rizzo looked clues in his rookie season and had a long swing.
Good to get the win. It would have been nice for Carlson’s confidence if he had been able to come up with the game winning hit, but he’ll come through eventually. The Reds bullpen is rough, to say the least.
Is Carlson really ready?
I still like him a lot. Looks good defensively and he is not going to learn much at a Alternate Training Site with the same pitchers day after day. Minors shutdown is affecting all teams. I hope he stays up but I must say I have never seen a rookie who has come up with the bases loaded so many times.
