Cardinals tie it up! Ozuna reached on an error, scoring Carpenter and moving JMart to third, then Gyroko brings them home with a single.
May 19, 2018 at 2:47 pm #53189Wong hit into fielders choice and O’Neill drew a walk. Inning ends on a Baron fly ball to right. But the Cardinals have tied it up! 3-3
May 19, 2018 at 2:48 pm #53190Unfortunately, the Cubbies also tied up their game against the Reds in the 8th inning
May 19, 2018 at 2:56 pm #53191Gant hands a single to Eflin by picking a ball that was clearly rolling foul. Hernandez follows that with a legit single and Gant is in trouble in the 5th, 2 on and 1 out, score tied 3-3.
May 19, 2018 at 2:58 pm #53192Gant loads the bases with one out in the 5th for the Phillies
May 19, 2018 at 3:04 pm #53194Cecil comes in and does his job, inducing a grounder to 2B. Shortstop Gyorko to 1B Martinez on a double play attempt. What could possibly go wrong?
May 19, 2018 at 3:09 pm #53195I don’t want to see Jedd playing shortstop again after today. His metrics show he is a bad shortstop defensively but you can’t have 3 bad defensive players (at their current position) on the infield.
May 19, 2018 at 3:14 pm #53196Those last two runs were gifted in more ways than one. Gant definitely commits an error of judgement to start the mess. On the shoulda-been-DP, Gyorko gets the error, but Martinez looked awful trying to receive the throw.
May 19, 2018 at 3:22 pm #53199Rain delay in B5th with two out. Phils up 5-4.
May 19, 2018 at 3:22 pm #53200A sac-fly is not enough for forgiveness JMart.
Meanwhile, why is Ozuna still hitting 4th? I mean the entire offense is producing very poorly this season but he’s providing negative value and you can’t have that with your 4th hitter.
May 19, 2018 at 3:23 pm #53201Fowler with a pinch hit double, Pham’s flyball to right moves him to third, Carpenter with a walk and then JMART with a sac fly. 5-4
Yes, it is ridiculous that week keep trotting out the worst defensive alignments possible for the sake of offense when some of those “offense-first” players aren’t hitting.
May 19, 2018 at 3:49 pm #53202Fowler and Carpenter should never see the field defensively.Jose Martinez is a DH.Gyorko is a 3B only in reality. So its no wonder Cards pitchers break down so much…with such lousy defense behind them they have to try and strike everyone out to be sure of getting a out.Carpenter stinks at 3B and is barely adequate at 1B.When you don`t hit and play lousy defense your ass should be riding the pine.
May 19, 2018 at 3:53 pm #53203Weather permitting, we expect to resume today's game at 4:00 pm CT. pic.twitter.com/PqUCpZ0tRt

May 19, 2018 at 3:55 pm #53204Reds walk off with a 5-4 win in 11 innings in game one of their day/night DH against the Cubs. A bases loaded walk to Billy Hamilton brought in the winning run.
May 19, 2018 at 4:05 pm #53206And by the way, Randall Grichuk is hitting .106 with Toronto.
May 19, 2018 at 4:07 pm #53207The 2nd error is on Martinez. I know they charged it to Gyorko. But that play has to be made by the 1B, wasn’t even in the dirt. Martinez just missed it. Martinez makes Carpenter look like JT Snow over at 1B, and we know Carpenter is average at best at 1B.
I can’t stand Martinez defense. I love Gyorko at 3B. I can handle Carp at 1B if hes hitting.May 19, 2018 at 4:19 pm #53209The Cardinal infield has been a mess from day one. A jumbled up conglomeration of either bad defense, bad offense, or both, not to mention no one good enough to justify playing full time. (except DeJong and he is now hurt).
May 19, 2018 at 4:25 pm #53211O’Neill’s first homer ties the game. I guess that means he sits tomorrow for sure. 😉
May 19, 2018 at 4:28 pm #53212Baron`s 1st MLB hit.He will sit tomorrow.
May 19, 2018 at 4:31 pm #53213That is good because Pena is a better hitter, IMO.
May 19, 2018 at 4:35 pm #53215Good seventh from Hicks. Busch gun saying he hit 103.
May 19, 2018 at 4:37 pm #53217Hicks throws about as much as Grichuk hits. 103mph to .106ba.
May 19, 2018 at 4:39 pm #53218Perhaps O’Neill should get some time in LF until Ozuna figures it out.
May 19, 2018 at 4:45 pm #53219RBI double by beleaguered Matt Carpenter puts Cards back in lead, 6-5 B7th. Run set up by another Phillies error.
May 19, 2018 at 5:04 pm #53221Holland gives up the tying run on a hard-hit ball to left that was misplayed by Ozuna (too close to the wall and it got past him) and scored a triple. His throw in to third was offline by a mile on top of it.
Then an RBI infield single scores the lead run as there are audible boos at Busch. More boos as Matheny comes out to pull Holland in favor of Norris.
Prior to the inning, Dan and Tim suggested letting Hicks pitch a second inning. He threw 12 pitches in the seventh. Seems like a great idea in hindsight.
