Now would be a good time for O’Neill to unleash one of those dingers he was hitting like crazy in Memphis.

He missed three fastballs that were all very badly located. Two were middle middle. Oh well. They still have two more innings to complete the comeback.

Gonna sink or swim with Cecil here. I sure hope we get the best of Cecil.

Brett gets Eaton with a pretty good curve for the first out.

Bader with a nice play on a ball at the wall for out number two. That was a hard hit ball.

Harper gifts Cecil a strike with a weird bunt attempt. Then Wong makes a nice play on a grounder to end the inning.

    Whew!!

Now let’s get two runs and close this one out in the 9th. C’mon, Cards!

Cecil was a little shaky but he ended up with a clean inning. I’ll give him that.

Ozuna, DeJong and Wong go down in order in the 8th. The bottom of the order will have to do it in the 9th, or the streak ends at 8.

Nothing going in the 8th for the Cards. This Nats reliever can’t go 3 innings tonight…can he?

Mayers struggling with control tonight. Two on and only one out. Gotta buckle down and get out of this.

Mayers is just behind in the count to every batter after the leadoff single. Generally the count works back to full. 28 pitches this inning so far…and three 29th is popped up.

On to the bottom of the 9th with the chance to extend the streak to 9!

Glover with the gutsy pitch to cut a fastball into the plate to get Bader. 1 out.

Garcia doesn’t inspire a lot of hope batting in such a crucial situation, does he? He lined out to the pitcher, a bit unlucky. Martinez is the last hope, 2 outs, bases empty. Need a blast.

Garcia lines it directly into the glove of the pitcher. Two down and Martinez up to try to keep the game alive.

Euro…no, he doesn’t. He’s a versatile player, but his bat just isn’t good enough to pay him when his arb time comes up, IMO.

Jmart with the base hit! Carp up with the tying run on. Let’s go, Cards!!

Martinez singles, now Carp up. A little hope here…

A little more hope, Carp walks, Gant moves to 2B (pinch running). Molina up.

    Marp with the 3-2 count…walks.

Molina now up with the man on 2nd. His double play ball was the game ender in the last loss. Can he redeem it this time?

Yadi hits a can of corn to CF on the 1st pitch. Steak over.

Nope. His light fly ball to center bookends the 8 game win streak.

Considering how many things went badly for them this game, it’s lucky it even got to where it did.

Time to start another win streak tomorrow.

The return of sloppy defense costs the Cards this game. Hopefully, that will not happen again soon.

Yeah the defense stunk and it burned us.

I never like when pitchers come off an injury so catastrophic as his was. lol!

Seriously I hope we aren’t relying on his arm if for someone reason we end up in the NLDS.

defense stunk? what two maybe three poor plays? even if they cost arun who cares?

watch baseball, you will see every single team have poor plays in almost every single game

Time to try another of our young guns in Weaver’s rotation slot. Move him to the bullpen. We have others (Poncedeleon, Hudson and Gomber) who may be better that have nothing left to prove on the farm.

Considering that the Cards lost by 1 run…a lot of people care.

It’s just your bias that won’t admit that it was a poor game. Yes, it happens…and I don’t think anyone is particularly upset…but it’s ok to call it what it is and not try to put some other veneer on it.
