Bader with the nice play in CF. Probably saved a run.

And he costs us a run with his feeble at bat, flailing at two out of zone fastballs and then watching the breaking ball go by. Unless he improves against righties he’s a career platoon guy, I’m afraid.

This game has a really familiar feel to it, as the Cards have now let two opportunities to get easy scores go by. It should be 3-2 Cards but this team can’t get out of its own way right now on the offensive side. Can’t punish Cincinnati for its mistakes and the Reds jumped all over what has really been the one mistake pitch by Flaherty.

Make that two mistake pitches and three runs in for Cincinnati. Cy Romano on the other side has gotten away with junk all day.

    3-1 Reds

Cy Romano cruises through 5 as the punchless Cardinals offense can only weakly slap at his ruthless punches.

Just a thought…maybe on a warm day with ideal home run conditions, it may make sense not to put a guy who literally cannot elevate the ball at cleanup?

Flaherty has had to pitch his mind out to even keep the Cards within any striking distance.

Good work by Jack there on the pickoff and fielding the bunt. 3-1 as Romano comes back to the mound.

Muñoz clubs one out to the left field gap, scoring Fowler. The Reds made a terrible throw so Yairo ends up on 3rd. Up to Bader now to try to drive in the run.

Harrison with another horrible at bat. He missed a fat breaking ball right in the middle of the zone.

Looks like Flaherty is done. I do not like this move. Hopefully Pham can come through.

Bader awful at the plate today. Can’t win with that.

Cy Romano also going for the Gold Glove with the one handed grab and the Cards let another one slip by. Remains 3-2 and it’s up to the bullpen. Looks like Gant in.

Flaherty out this early? Did Schildt forget a few arms aren’t available today?

It literally sickens me to watch big league players at times nowadays.

Bader has cost us two runs this game by SWINGING LIKE A MANIAC when all he had to do was make contact, put the ball in play. Even the Reds announcers made a comment that he was swinging out of control.

IS THERE ANYBODY IN THE CARDINAL ORGANIZATION THAT UNDERSTANDS THAT SOMETIMES ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS MAKE CONTACT, PUT THE BALL IN PLAY, AND THAT YOU DONT HAVE TO SWING LIKE A MANIAC ALL THE TIME????????

Gant induced a double play but served up the gopher ball. Cincy putting this one almost out of reach.

Simple answer, Rats, is that hitting sac flies or grounders to score runners or even move them over doesn’t pay. Hitting homers does.

Only Yadi and maybe Marp have any clue about this in the whole organization. Pham, occasionally.

Rats, the “don’t swing like a maniac” topic was covered in the same strategy session as the “always hustle on the bases” topic and the “don’t use this pen earlier than necessary” topic.

Shildt has made several sabermetrically correct decisions so far that have basically, as a whole, backfired.

He’s made quite a few that make less sense, such as sticking with Fowler, that have turned out better. Odd

Yadi homers, the Cards’ second of the day. Unfortunately, the Reds have three, including two of the curious variety where men are already on base. This is allowed in baseball, lest the St Louis side forget.

Brebbia works around a Gennett pop double and Votto walk to get out of the inning.

The Cards need a run per inning to tie. Can they do it??

Is Bader the next Peter Bourjos?

Bader has a better bat then Bourjos but playin 1-2 times a week hard to do much he needs to be starting everyday!

Sequencing, sequencing, sequencing…Cards strand the bases loaded once again and this one is looking pretty bleak.

I sure hope this weekend O’Neill gets some playing time. Maybe Bader needs to be sent down for a while. I love his defense, but he strikes out WAY too much for a guy with average power. He needs to utilize his speed. Or send down a pitcher, and recall O’Neill.

Another stellar outing from Gregerson……sarcasm alert

Gregerson is in so I guess Shildt is punting. 2nd and 3rd with none out.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen an entire bullpen turn to absolute garbage individually at the same time as this one.

Two runs in. 7-3. Once again the Reds strike when they get the chance and the Cards falter when given the same.
