Remember at Winter Warm Up it was announced that Gregerson would be our closer.
His stuff looks similar to Wainwright’s to me.
July 25, 2018 at 2:41 pm #62136Terrible game for Bader now compounded by a misplay in CF — turns a single into a double. The Cards pen, asked to go too many innings, is cracking in the 9th — but who could foresee that coming. Gregerson not showing much again. Cards will fall back to .500 it appears and 10th among NL teams.
July 25, 2018 at 2:43 pm #62137Hicks, Norris and prob tuli not avail today so….not many other options

stlcard25ParticipantI would have let Gant take the rest of the game once Flaherty out. What’s the point in using a starter out of the bullpen for one inning? It’s either him or Gomber going on Sunday against Chicago so you’re making Gant unavailable for that?
July 25, 2018 at 2:52 pm #62139The lethargic mental approach and miscues of the top of the first inning seemed to set the tone for the rest of the game. We’ve seen this on a few times before, Cards lose 7-3.

stlcard25ParticipantSometimes in a season, you end up realizing that you’re not what you’d hoped for at the beginning of the season.
At this point, the Reds are a superior team to the Cards. Look at the lineup they can run out there. They’ve got 5 hitters equal to or better than our second best hitter (who is Jmart and is so limited defensively that he can’t really be played). Their bullpen looks like the Yankees compared to ours. Our defense stinks.
Losing two of three on the road was simply the expected result. I think unless the Cubs are swept out of St Louis this weekend, the team should sell and try to retool for next year.

ParticipantDid Carpenter forget his homemade salsa or is playing 3b that diminished his power at Cinci?

ParticipantMust be frustrating for the manager.
July 25, 2018 at 8:38 pm #62187I will say this the team looked different, more bunts more hit and runs like that manager much better than prev one!

ParticipantI didn’t mention the previous manager, Onyx. Please don’t bait me and don’t stalk me.
July 25, 2018 at 9:20 pm #62192Please don’t tell me what to post. I was just making a statement
July 25, 2018 at 9:27 pm #62194bccran
ParticipantHow old are you, Onyx? I hope old enough to know better. UConn or BW, would you please back this guy off? Thank you.
July 25, 2018 at 9:44 pm #62196Neither one of you named a manager so let’s just move on.
This team is extremely frustrating.

ParticipantThey leave too many men on, especially in scoring position, and the bullpen continues to be rancid. Not a happy flight.
July 25, 2018 at 10:33 pm #62200Bccran please stop acting like every post on this board revolves around you it is getting old.
As for the team frustring yup finding differnt ways to make good starts to an inning end badly
July 25, 2018 at 11:06 pm #62201I read in an article the other day that our bullpen’s ERA is worse than that of Cubs’ position players, by quite a bit, I might add

ParticipantUConn requested that you move on, Onyx. You don’t have to get the last insult in.
July 26, 2018 at 7:02 am #62213Neither do you, cranny. And by that I’m talking about last word/post on a subject.
I’d appreciate posters sticking to relevant board subjects and not other posters.
Thanks

ParticipantI had nothing to do with the last word for me, UConn. I simply asked him to stop insulting me. Big difference. Case closed.

ParticipantGoing back to my original post on this thread, it must be frustrating for this manager. He is trying to prove he can do the job with a bunch of players who have been underperforming all season. Playing the hand he’s dealt. Yesterday was brutal. Gregerson stinks it up again. And he finally gets a young player some badly need playing time and he responds with the Golden Sombrero. Plus he leaves critical runs in scoring position twice. Sure hope Mo makes some moves by the deadline to give Shildt a fair shot. He seems like a good man and has an excellent background in the system.
