Cardinals Minor League Notebook – August 9, 2026

The St. Louis Cardinals minor league system was 2-3 on Saturday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Peoria’s Jalin Flores, hit two doubles and a home run for five RBIs. Other standouts: Ramón Urías, Josiah Ragsdale, Ryan Weingartner, Trevor Haskins, Jaden Alba, Michael Cordero, Jhon Franganten and Jesús Pérez.

Memphis Redbirds 3, Nashville Sounds 4

The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds lost a close contest to the Nashville Sounds at AutoZone Park on Saturday.

Mason Molina made his sixth start for Memphis. The left-hander pitched 4 ⅓ innings and allowed one run on three hits, one walk, and two strikeouts.

Brycen Mautz finished the fifth inning without allowing a run. Matt Svanson followed and struck out four across two scoreless, no-hit innings. Hancel Rincon surrendered three runs in the eighth, taking a blown save and the loss. Ryan Murphy tossed a scoreless ninth.

Memphis opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the third inning. Chase Davis tripled and scored on a Ramon Mendoza single.

Nashville tied the game 1-1 in the fourth.

The Redbirds regained the lead in the home half of the frame. Ramón Urías crushed the first home run of his latest rehab assignment, as he works to rejoin the major league club, to give the Redbirds a 2-1 lead.

The Sounds plated three runs in the eighth to move ahead 4-2.

Down to their final three outs, the Redbirds looked to rally. Urías clubbed his second solo home run of the game to bring Memphis closer at 4-3.

Leo Bernal followed with a walk to represent the tying run. With one out, Mendoza lined a single to put runners at the corners, though a Noah Mendlinger groundout ended the game.

The Redbirds scored three runs on eight hits. Urías hit two solo home runs. Mendoza was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Davis tripled and scored. Thomas Saggese doubled.

On the bases, Victor Scott II stole his 13th base with Memphis. Mendlinger was picked off first base.

On defense, third baseman Nolan Gorman made a throwing error. Catcher Bernal was charged with a passed ball.

Memphis is 15-23 in the second half and 62-51 overall. The Redbirds will look to split the series with a win on Sunday.

Springfield Cardinals 2 at San Antonio Missions 3

The Double-A Springfield Cardinals dropped a tight contest to the Missions in San Antonio on Saturday.

Daniel Eagen, acquired from Arizona in the Lars Nootbaar trade, started for Springfield in his organizational debut. The right-hander pitched six innings and allowed three runs on three hits, two walks, and six strikeouts. Despite the quality start, Eagen took the loss.

Lefty Jack Findlay tossed a scoreless seventh. Sandro Santana, also acquired in the Nootbaar trade, threw a shutout eighth frame with a pair of strikeouts.

San Antonio struck first with a three-run bottom of the first inning.

Springfield entered the run column with a run in the top of the fourth. Rainiel Rodriguez led off the inning with a double. Ryan Campos singled home Rodriguez to put the Cardinals on the board.

The Cardinals moved within a run in the eighth. Josiah Ragsdale launched a solo home run, his second with Springfield and 21st overall.

Down 3-2 in the ninth, the Cardinals looked for a comeback. Campos and Won-Bin Cho took back-to-back walks. Tre Richardson III lined a single to load the bases with no outs. Levenson grounded into a forceout, with Campos out at home. Back-to-back strikeouts stranded the bases loaded in the tough loss.

The Cardinals scored two runs on seven hits. Campos walked, singled, and drove in a run. Ragsdale hit a solo home run. Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored. Harris recorded a double. The lineup was just 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

The Cardinals did not steal a base nor commit an error.

Springfield is 24-14 in the second half and 55-51 overall. They will look to secure a series split with a win on Sunday.

Sunday’s game: at San Antonio. LHP Braden Davis (1-4, 4.55) vs. RHP Matthew Watson (1-6, 5.81) 6:05 PM CT.

Peoria Chiefs 6, Quad Cities River Bandits 7

The High-A Peoria Chiefs came up just short in a back-and-forth contest at Dozer Park on Saturday.

Brandon Clarke made his first start for the Chiefs. The left-hander pitched 4 ⅓ innings and allowed three runs on three hits, one walk, and seven strikeouts.

Christian Worley struck out three across 1 ⅔ innings in relief. Dylan Driessen surrendered four runs over 1 ⅔ frames and took the loss. Gerardo Salas threw the remaining 1 ⅓ scoreless frames.

Quad Cities scored the inaugural run of the game in the top of the first.

Peoria grabbed the lead with a pair of runs in the home second. Ian Petrutz was hit by a pitch. Josh Kross doubled, though Petrutz was thrown out attempting to score. Jalin Flores hit a second consecutive double to bring Kross home and tie the game 1-1.

With two outs, Ryan Weingartner singled for his first High-A hit and brought Flores home for a 2-1 Peoria lead.

The River Bandits scored twice in the fourth to jump in front 3-2.

The Chiefs tied the game in the sixth. Caden Ferraro legged out an infield single. Josh Kross was hit by a pitch. Flores hit his second double of the game to score Ferraro.

Quad Cities regained the lead at 7-3 with a four-run top of the eighth inning.

The Chiefs responded with three runs in the home half. Sammy Hernandez opened the inning with a double. Michael Dattalo was hit by a pitch. The runners advanced on a wild pitch. Flores pounded his 15th home run of the season, a three-run blast, to empty the bags and bring the Chiefs within a run at 7-6.

Peoria looked to respond further in the bottom of the ninth. Weingartner singled and Hernandez walked, but both were left on base to end the game.

The Chiefs scored six runs on eight hits. Flores was 3-for-4, including two doubles, a home run, two runs scored, and five RBI. Weingartner went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Kross doubled and scored a run. Hernandez drew two walks, doubled, and scored a run.

On the bases, Hernandez swiped his 16th base of the campaign.

On defense, catcher Hernandez made a throwing error. Flores also showed off his range at shortstop with a highlight-reel play.

Peoria is 20-20 in the second half and 52-54 overall. They will look to win the series finale on Sunday.

Sunday’s game: vs. Quad Cities. RHP Jacob Odle (4-5, 3.00) vs. LHP Jordan Woods (3-2, 4.63) 2:05 PM CT.

Palm Beach Cardinals 2, Jupiter Hammerheads 0

Playing as their alternate identity, the Frozen Iguanas, the Low-A Palm Beach Cardinals shut out the Jupiter Hammerheads at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Saturday.

Jan Cabrera started for Palm Beach in his Low-A debut. The right-hander pitched 2 ⅔ scoreless innings on four hits, one walk, and six strikeouts.

The bullpen was excellent, with 6 1/3 scoreless innings. Dallis Moran fired 1 ⅓ shutout frames. Jaden Alba threw 2 ⅓ scoreless innings with three strikeouts in his professional debut. Yaidel Batista followed with three Ks over 1 ⅔ scoreless frames and picked up his fifth win. Brian Garmon pitched a shutout ninth inning to collect his first professional save.

The Cardinals snapped the scoreless tie with two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Trevor Haskins led off the inning with his 11th home run of the season.

Yairo Padilla walked. He was picked off but a throwing error from the catcher allowed him to reach third base. With two away, Dee Kennedy singled home Padilla to double the lead to 2-0.

Palm Beach kept Jupiter off the scoreboard as Cardinals pitchers allowed just six singles and three walks. Palm Beach held Jupiter to 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position and stranded nine Hammerheads on base.

The Cardinals scored two runs on four hits. Haskins walked and hit a home run. Kennedy singled and drove in a run. Padilla walked, singled, and scored. Cristofer Lebrón singled.

On the bases, Padilla stole his 10th bag with Palm Beach. Alexander Frias swiped his third base with the Cardinals. Lebrón snagged his fifth Low-A steal. Padilla and Kennedy were both caught stealing second base. Padilla was picked off first base.

On defense, pitcher Alba made a throwing error.

Palm Beach is 20-20 in the second half and 53-53 overall. They will look to take the series finale on Sunday.

DSL Cardinals 14 at DSL Miami 7 (7 innings)

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals outslugged DSL Miami in a road victory on Saturday.

Emilio Jiménez made his fifth start in his 10th game for the Cardinals. The left-hander threw 3 ⅔ innings and allowed one unearned run on two hits, one walk, and four strikeouts.

Beiker Rodríguez yielded four runs, three earned, in relief of Jiménez. Jhon Cabrera gave up two runs over the final 1 ⅔ frames and collected his second win.

The Cardinals began the scoring with a run in the top of the second inning. Diego Conseción walked and stole second. Héctor Cabrera walked. Michael Cordero lined a double to score Conseción.

The Cardinals broke the game open early with eight runs in the third. Lucas Takahashi walked and moved to second on a wild pitch. Jhon Franganten walked. Jesús Pérez roped a double to bring Takahashi and Franganten home. Misael Sánchez took the third walk of the inning. Pérez and Sánchez moved into scoring position via a wild pitch. Cordero was hit by a pitch to load the bags with two outs. Roberth Castillo walked to force Pérez home. Eduardo Mirabal singled for his first career hit and brought Sánchez home. Takahashi walked to force Cordero home. Franganten cleared the bases with a double to stretch the score to 9-0.

DSL Miami entered the run column with a tally in the home third.

The Cardinals tacked on four runs in the fourth.Cabrera was hit by a pitch and scored on three wild pitches. Cordero walked and advanced to third on a Castillo double. Mirabal was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Takahashi drew his second bases-loaded walk of the contest to bring Cordero home. Castillo crossed the plate via a wild pitch. Franganten walked to reload the bags. Pérez brought Mirabal home on the groundout to widen the lead to 13-1.

DSL Miami plated four runs in the sixth to dent the score to 13-5.

The Cardinals added an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Sánchez walked and took second on a wild pitch. Cordero connected for a single to score Sánchez and extend the Cardinals lead to 14-5.

DSL Miami scored two in the home seventh, but the Cardinals prevented the comeback’s completion.

The DSL Cardinals scored 14 runs on just six hits. Eight of nine hitters recorded at least one walk. Franganten walked twice, doubled, scored, and tallied three RBI. Pérez walked, doubled, scored, and drove in three. Cordero was 2-for-3, including a walk, a double, two runs scored, and two RBI. Takahashi walked four times, scored twice, and notched two RBI. Castillo walked, scored twice, doubled, and drove in a run. Mirabal singled, scored twice, and drove in a run. The lineup drew 14 total walks.

On the bases, Conseción swiped his fifth base of the season.

On defense, catcher Cabrera and third baseman Pérez each made a throwing error.

The DSL Cardinals are 24-22 on the season. They are off Sunday and will play a home contest with the DSL NYY Yankees on Monday.

Monday’s game: vs. DSL NYY Yankees. Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 10:00 AM CT.
