The Glendale Desert Dogs (5-2) demolished the Peoria Javelinas 19-9 on Tuesday powered by a 10-run eighth inning. Thomas Saggese doubled, singled twice, walked and scored three times.

The Glendale Desert Dogs demolished the Peoria Javelinas 19-9 on Tuesday thanks to a 10-run eighth inning. Thomas Saggese doubled, singled twice, walked and scored three times.
Saggese started at second base, going 3-for-5 with a walk and three runs scored while batting second in the lineup. Alex Cornwell pitched the sixth and Matt Svanson pitched the eighth.
Saggese tallied Glendale’s first hit with a single in the first and was brought home on a two-run bomb. He doubled to lead off the third and scored on a sacrifice fly. He struck out swinging in the fourth and reached on a fielding error in the sixth that plated a runner. Saggese walked in the eighth and later came home on a bases-loaded walk, and singled later in the same inning as the Desert Dogs scored 10 times.
Saggese committed a throwing error and assisted on a double play in the third.
Cornwell allowed one run on three hits while striking out two. The lefty gave up a single and committed a throwing error while attempting a pickoff. He gave up an RBI groundout, a double, and a single before striking out the next two batters to end the inning.
Swanson yielded one run, none earned, on no hits while walking one and striking out one. He walked the first batter he faced and then forced the next batter to ground out. Svanson’s wild pitch let the runner score. He then struck out the next batter and forced the final batter to fly out.
