The 40-man is full. Hicks going to 60-day IL creates an opening and may be filled when and if Mayers or Cecil return. Neither is rehabbing as of yet.

    This from Rick Hummel:

Ryan Helsley and Mike Mayers, both rehabbing from shoulder ailments, are set to throw an inning each Wednesday at Memphis.

I hope and pray that Carpenter is NOT in the lineup tonight.

Munoz or Edman will be fine with me.

Here here Esteemed One! If Carp is batting anything higher than 8th in the order tonight, I’ll be calling for Shildt’s head. I’m already calling for Maddux’s. And I’m not the kind of person who likes messing with people’s livelihood. Edman needs to get a good 10-20 starts in immediately, so we can get a better idea of what we have in this kid. From what I’ve seen, there is a distinct possibility that he may run with his opportunity and never look back. To continue on this same course borders on insanity.

Mike Shannon is not a big fan of Carpenter right now either. On that called strike three last night, Rooney had the call and mentioned how Carp said something to the home plate umpire about the pitch.

Shannon chinned in and said the pitch was right down the middle, and commented how “That happens to him a lot because he likes to walk”. Then he went on to say the “triple” he hit was really an error.

Shannon tried to be diplomatic in his comments, but you could tell he felt Carpenter is too passive at the plate.

The Athletics are a franchise that has really suffered from inept management. They are sort of a longer-tenured Miami Marlins, except when they win they win for a few years whereas Miami only had a couple of “one and done” seasons.

First in Philadelphia, they were a model franchise until Connie Mack sold off his stars after being swept in the 1914 World Series. They were then terrible for a decade before coming back to prominence, only to see it happen again in the ‘30s.

Then as Mack aged, he brought his sons in to run the organization, and they were not very good. He really needed to bring in outside investors and qualified baseball people, but he wanted to keep the club in the family.

Later the franchise was sold and moved to Kansas City, where a New Yorker ran the team as a Yankee farm club. Then Charlie Finley bought the A’s and wanted to relocate almost from the day he purchased the club.

He finally moves the team after the 1967 season, but goes in to a market that already had MLB.

Just a continual series of poor management and poor decision-making. They have managed to survive in Oakland, but are always an after-thought in the Bay Area to the Giants.

Looks like they are giving the people what they want. Hope it works out.

Mike, you might be right regarding the A’s ownership over the years but they have had one of he best front offices in MLB the last 20 years. The owner probably sets the payroll budget then Billy Beane has to put a team together with that paltry sum. He has done an incredible job over the years with a low budget.

Maybe they will get a new stadium one day and can get out of the sewer they currently reside in. The city of Oakland must be a pain in the *** to deal with though considering the Warriors and Raiders have both decided to leave town.

So…….what happens if Edman gets 2-3 hits in this one? Is this going to be a Wally Pipp situation with Carpenter?

If Edmond can go day to day and keep generating hits that would be great. Theres 4 infielders there Carp, Munoz, Edmumds and Gyroko. Carp took off after the all star break last year. Can he do it again. Last year he would follow the ball all the way to the catchers glove. I wonder if hes not seeing the ball this year or just doesn’t try hard enough? Gyroko will take a few continuous games to really get going. I like Munoz who seems to me to be the most consistent this year. Confucious say: If they don’t hit, let them sit!

My biggest complaint about tonight’s lineup is DeJong needs to bat lower in the lineup. He is hitting under .200 for the last 30 games. Also, leave Goldie in the #3 spot. Despite him not hitting very well over the last 15 games, he is still one of the most feared hitters on the team. Either hit Wong 2nd or sit him and have Munoz bat 2nd. Another possibility is hitting Martinez 2nd.

Edman is the only thing going right now. 2-2 and the rest of the lineup is hitless.

Edman 2-2 now in a scoreless bottom of the 3rd ballgame. It’s been taking Carp a good 3-4 games to amass 2 legitimate hits

Edman’s launch angle has been awful tonight. Albert and Shildt are gonna have a long talk with the rook about it.

Another homer on a two strike pitch, this time to the #8 hitter. Just bad fundamental baseball. Still time but 1 run deficits are legit obstacles for this offense sometimes.

Cy Mengden comes in with a 5+ ERA and makes the Cardinal offense look like fools. He’s gonna go at least 7, the way it’s headed.

cubs and brewers losing 5-0 and 3-0 respectively in their games early. I flip it back over the Cards game now with Edman coming up.

Waino has looked good tonight, save for that one pitch. I’ll go ahead and predict that the Cards score a run in the 6th to get him off the hook.
