7:15 p.m. LHP Austin Gomber (6-1, 3.63) vs. LHP Gio Gonzalez (9-11, 4.28) FOX Sports Midwest/ESPN/KMOX
This game and tomorrow’s are now must wins. The Rockies are facing Philadelphia, who appears to have given up. A loss here likely means they’ll trail in the Wild Card and I don’t think we want to be facing a deficit going into the Cubs series. Flaherty is flagging lately…can Gomber step up and be on his game to tie the series?
They are pretty much all “must wins” at this point, although losses are not necessarily back-breakers. But losses mean the club needs help to get to that wild card game. The Rox are playing well right now, so it looks to be close; it may even end in a tie. That would be something, as a team would have to play two consecutive elimination games.
Last night looked more like the early-season Cardinals; poor bullpen work and bad defense. I did not like Shildt going to Hudson in that bases-loaded/no out situation, as Hudson has been wild in the big leagues. Sure enough he walked Braun on four pitches. We were lucky it was not worse, as the Crew could have broken things wide open at that point. Hicks’ location was bad as well.
That is the area where I think Wainwright could be best utilized. He would likely keep the ball in the strike zone, and at least give the club a chance to get out of those messes. I strongly believe Waino could be a big benefit in the bullpen, moreso than in the rotation. But in doing that, you probably have to go back to Weaver as a starter, which is not a great option either.
Starting Weaver again this season equals loss. Weaver is the owner of 11 of this team’s losses this season and has an ERA at almost 5.

I thought the offense worked better when Yadi was batting second. I’m not saying he is the long term answer there but it sure seemed to work when Shildt did that right after being hired.
Where has the esteemed RatsBuddy been??? I kind of miss his mortal lock predictions…..just bet the ranch going the opposite way that Rat is going and it’s sweet sweet cash in the bank and drawing interest. In tonight’s game I don’t know how Gio wins it for the Crew??? Yes, the Brewers have prevailed in all 3 of his starts with Milwaukee, but that streak ends tonight. I’m calling this affair 7-2 Cards with Gyorko having a very big night. Go Birds!!
Let’s get the win tonight. It should be all hands on deck kind of night. It is also a shame Colorado is lately playing teams that appear ready to play golf.
Aguilar sets the tone with an opposite field homer. 1-0 Brewers and the Cards are right behind the 8 ball already.
Two home runs vs two strikeouts in the first. Too many Ks. Doesn’t even force the defense into making plays. Doesn’t move runners along.
Now, bottom of third. Put the bat on the ball. Just stroke it hard. I wish someone would teach Bader just to hit it anywhere and run. He can outrun the ball.
Now the pitcher drives in his first run of the season to make it 3-0. The rookies are pitching like rookies and this rotation is not coming through right now.
Less than inspiring again with the season on the line. Cards pitching giving Brewers the big blank stare this series.
Brewers have dropped the hammer and exposed the Cards pitching. This team needed some real reinforcements at some point. Another year where a game or two makes all the difference and the Cards FO is asleep behind the wheel.
Yelich beats the Cards again. They are wrapping a nice bow around his MVP candidacy. Then again, Baez gets to hit three more games against Cardinals pitching, too.
