With the Dodgers and Rockies playing each other, the Cards could really use a hot streak here coming off the old school Wainwright performance.
Is Carpenter ever going to do anything the rest of the way? He’s hit, what, one homerun in three weeks now?
This series needs to be one where we pay the Braves back for their humiliating sweep in St Louis earlier this summer. Sun Trust should be a welcome sight for ailing bats like Carpenter and Martinez. Like the Rockies in between their two hot streaks, hopefully this early September swoon is a prelude to getting things clicking just prior to the postseason.
Whew! after my fun Detroit Friday night game i headed out to Europe for work for a week…keeping up with the team was tough…i got the scores in the morning and watched the condensed games before bed…it has been a long time since i did not get to watch the Birds play live for that many days in a row…
so i will take the last week on my shoulders folks…1st game back was last night and we did well…so let’s hope my return can help the boys!

Welcome back, Jags! Bet you missed The Motor City while in Europe….not! I see DeJong having a HUGE game this evening……I’m calling it 7-2 Cards.
Folty isn’t looking too comfortable out there so far tonight. His control is a bit off. Gyorko and he are having quite the battle right now. Jedd walks and the bases are juiced for Yadi.
Folty gets a gift call against Wong 1-1…but Wong crushes one into the right field corner!! 3-0 Redbirds!
Miles with a chance to help his own cause and showcase the lumber with the bases juiced. He strikes out but still a good first inning. The Braves starter is at 37 pitches.
Miles gives up a leadoff single but settles in to get the next three. Back around to Marp for the 2nd.
Mikolas shuts down the Braves in the 1st after a lead off hit by Acuña. It took 18 pitches. Cards up 3-0.
Now it’s Miles’ time to struggle. A hit that sneaks past Wong and a hit batter puts two on for Swanson.
It’s funny how your perception / expectations of players and a team can change in a hurry. I went to SunTrust Park for a game August 2017. They had just brought up Albies and I thought they had some interesting players that might come together in a the coming years. Tonight, as I looked over their lineup for the game, I was thinking those guys are locked and loaded for the near term. Of course, pitching depth covering all 9 innings is usually most teams’ downfall.
Miles labors through the second inning and keeps the Braves scoreless, but his pitch count is rising.
Ozuna could’ve hustled a little more on the passed ball for strike 3.
And how the hell doesn’t he know he didn’t make contact?
Ten pitches for Folty to retire the Cards. That’s 7 in a row for him. He may well have fewer pitches through 3 innings than Miles despite that very high pitch 1st.
C’mon guys, you’ve got a pitcher on the ropes and battling control issues, and all you’re doing is hacking away. Take some pitches for god’s sake.
Mikolas with more pitches through 2-1/3 than Folty despite the latter having 38 in one inning. Miles is not particularly sharp and it will end up taxing the bullpen in the end.
Mikolas not going well. You could see it coming. 2-run blast by Freeman. Just throwing so many pitches, all over the place.
Team needs to get the lumber going in this park.
Mikolas needs to give us more than he’s been giving us so far tonight.
