12:05 p.m. RHP Jack Flaherty (8-6, 2.87) vs. RHP Max Scherzer (16-6, 2.22) FOX Sports Midwest/KMOX
September 3, 2018 at 8:19 am #67965This one is going to be a fooler. Most are expecting a pitchers duel but like Game 7 of the 1967 World Series, the anticipated pitching duel will fail to materialize.
This one is going to be around a 6-5 final, one way or the other. Don’t expect it to be 1-1 in the 7th.

ParticipantBrebbia called up.
September 3, 2018 at 9:38 am #67980Whip out your checkbooks, gang! It’s not all that often when Rat makes such a bold IN YOUR FACE prediction. My bookie has the over/under for this game at 6.5 and Rat has it at 11….at the very least. Bet the ranch and all of the cows and horses in it on the over….you will not be sorry. Not only is Rat staking his reputation on it, but so is yours truly. I’m calling this one 10-6 Cards with Jose finding the cheap seats with 2 mates aboard.

stlcard25ParticipantBetter be a pinch hit homer, Pugs… because neither Jose (Martinez or Garcia) are starting.
Still not sure what Garcia has done to deserve a starting spot. I know they like him but he’s a goner after this year, IMO.
September 3, 2018 at 9:43 am #67985Check that as I just glimpsed the lineup. Take Jose off the home run board and please insert his replacement, Big City, as the player delivering the 3 run blow vs the Nats.
September 3, 2018 at 9:43 am #67986
stlcard25ParticipantI see our future right fielder is playing center for the Nats today. That’s still such a good lineup, even with the trades. Seems impossible that they could have had such a bad season.
September 3, 2018 at 10:05 am #67991Pugs & Rats, hope you’re right, but….Scherzer against a heart of the order of Adams, Ozuna, and DeJong….that trio’s average OPS was .647 in August….followed up by Garcia….and Pena’s bat in the lineup instead of Yadi’s? Seems like a no-hitter is more likely. Recent injuries are hard to overcome.
Now that I’ve said that, hopefully things will get silly and the Cards do end up with 10 runs today. They did bomb Kluber earlier this year when things weren’t going so well.

September 3, 2018 at 12:38 pm #68002NJ315
ParticipantBases loaded 2 outs. 3 walks. 29 pitches
September 3, 2018 at 12:41 pm #68003NJ315
ParticipantHe k’s Difo to end the inning. 33 pitches.
September 3, 2018 at 12:56 pm #68006Rats, you’re bringing back memories about the ‘67 Series! Game 7 wasn’t a classic pitching duel, but Gibson and Lonborg still made for a great game. Lonborg was working on 2 days rest and gave up 7 runs in 6 innings. Gibson, of course, only gave up 2 in a complete game. Neither Scherzer nor Flaherty are dominant in the way Gibson was, so today could likely see it’s fair share of runs. At any rate, today is a good test of our readiness for the post season.

Participant1-2-3 for Flaherty
September 3, 2018 at 1:14 pm #68008NJ315
ParticipantOzuna may need to go back to the DL. He is still suffering from strikeoutitis
September 3, 2018 at 1:34 pm #68010He must of caught it from DeJong or Fowler, NJ. I heard there’s next to no cure. Let’s hope this isn’t the case for our SS. Ozuna is terminal I do believe.
September 3, 2018 at 1:36 pm #68011Flaherty has given up just 1 run after 4 innings. Unfortunately, he will not go deep due to pitch count (75). Maybe just one more inning, so pen will need to be good.
September 3, 2018 at 1:43 pm #68012So stikeoutitis is a contagious, infectious disease? I hear the viral load gets really high when Scherzer shows up. Gotta be careful who you play with.
September 3, 2018 at 1:47 pm #68013NJ315
ParticipantI agree Pugs Ozuna’s case is terminal.
September 3, 2018 at 2:01 pm #68014NJ315
ParticipantMunoz!! 3-1
September 3, 2018 at 2:06 pm #68015Scherzer at 95 pitches and due to bat in the bottom of the 6th. Maybe that’s all for him. Cards lead 3-1.
