Nats coming to town after a major 9th inning meltdown against the cubs. They turned a 3-0 lead with 2 outs and 2 strikes on two different batters into a 4-3 loss. The goats were Difo and Madson. Difo didn’t handle a ground ball that should have retired Heyward to give the cubs an extra out. Then Madson gave two free passes via HBP before giving up a grand slam to pinch hitter Bote. Wasted a Scherzer gem.
the Nats pen is pretty weak and full of holes right now…being patient and working counts may be the name of the game (similar to the Duffy and Junis starts)…get their pitch counts up and get to their pen and do your damage then
O’Neill should be back sometime this series, right? While the bat is probably a wash with Martinez, the defense should improve if he’s in RF.
Although he made no mistakes, I really don’t want to see Martinez in right field. The series’ with the Royals and Tigers is a great opportunity for him to DH. I would like to see an outfield of O’Neill, Bader, and Garcia, although that is not likely since Garcia will depart when O’Neill is activated.
Nice start by Ross. And how bad is Weaver’s finger injured/cut? Will he miss another star?
What an epic loss by the Nats last night. The Cubs absolutely turn my stomach.
Has their been a team in recent memory underachieve more than this Nats team? Dusty Baker must be smiling somewhere.
gs…. if the Nats are the top underachieving team this season, the Angels are the most underachieving for the decade. The money that team was squandered could fill a dumpster. Poor Mike Trout… well, not too poor.
I was hoping the Chubbs would tie that game last night and Washington would win it in the 19th inning. Not a happy flight for the Nats. Chubbs and Brewers going head to head and Cards can make up ground on one or both of them.

I like it as long as he can avoid his first inning problems. Our bullpen could go from laughingstock to dominant. CMart, Hudson, Mayers, Hicks, Norris…..wowzers!
I think there’s a concern of another Martinez injury.
Also this is another bullpen arm that can piggyback a starter who doesn’t last long or throws too many pitches.
Odd move but what can you do.

Harper crushes a homer to right after a long battle with Mikolas. Cards need to get to the Nats’ scrub pitcher soon.
Wow, Bader is fast on the bases. He hit what looked like a routine single to CF, but Bader beat’s Harper’s throw into 2B easily. Then he ties the game after a Wong single and Mikolas SF.
I don’t understand how a team was so bad on the bases suddenly is pretty solid. Maybe the managing philosophy of one manager to another is the difference? It’s just night and day.
Cards tie it 2-2 after four, but strand yet another runner in scoring position, at 3B this time. I feel like they’ve let Milone off the hook.
I know. They look happier,playing like they are having fun, striking out way less, and improved base running.
