Recognizing players with the brightest futures in the #stlcards system, @kyler416 and I are announcing The Cardinal Nation's annual Top 50 Prospect List for 2026. TCN's 20th annual rankings are rolling out with daily articles into the New Year. No. 50 starts Monday morning!… pic.twitter.com/ymy0guRoyY

November 15, 2025 at 7:51 am #295866This picture must indicate that Brian and Kyle are selecting Raniel as their number 50 . . . No other reasonable explanation.
November 15, 2025 at 1:49 pm #295873No, no J. BW and the Kylester will be swept away by the Rainiel hype wave just like the rest of you happy campers. That looks like brand logos on the catching gear. :-]
November 15, 2025 at 5:59 pm #295880We should have a prediction contest in reverse. I predict the 50 best prospect is Chase Heath.
It should be noted I have no list and am simply tapping into my powers of cosmic intuition. He came to mind immediately and I am pretty sure he is the big 50.November 15, 2025 at 7:43 pm #295882Great guess, Nigel. It would be fitting if the last guy drafted was our last prospect, but sadly, we are not that clever!
November 15, 2025 at 7:45 pm #295883It’s really none of my business. But I would like to see three people buy those last three copies of TCN 2025 Prospect Guide. It just feels like a loose end to me. There were 4 copies left, but I bought a second copy to give to my one of my sons. It’s interesting to have a record of the changes in the system from year to year.
November 15, 2025 at 9:32 pm #295889Well, my number 50 is Jacob Odle and I’m sure Brian’s and Kyle’s lists will perfectly match mine. Although sometimes Brian likes to get cute with number 50 and pick someone who might not actually be #50 but deserves some recognition. So my guess will be Ty Van Dyke. I like Nigel’s Chase Heath guess though. That would have kind of fit this scenario well.
November 16, 2025 at 8:59 am #295896I’m guessing #50 will be one of the AFL guys.
November 16, 2025 at 3:31 pm #295927Interestingly, Brian’s Sleeper Pick for 2025 was Braden Davis who burst into our top 20 this year at #18.
Blake Newberry was Brian’s collaborator last year. His Sleeper Pick was Nolan Sparks who, unfortunately, did not appear to move closer to his formidable ceiling. I liked Blake a lot and respected his knowledge and baseball acumen.
I also think it’s noteworthy to mention that Nathan Church did not make TCN Top 50 f0r 2025. However, he had such a good year at Springfield in 2025 that he got ranked at #20 by TCN community for 2026. It will be interesting to see what Brian and Kyle have to say about Nathan Church in their countdown.
November 16, 2025 at 4:05 pm #295928Church going to AFL last year, and breaking out this year, is what I had in mind when I suggested an AFL guy would be Brian’s #50 this year.

That is true, but in the year between those two rankings, Church had quickly entered our monthly in-season Top 50-re-rankings and continued to move up, finishing in August at no. 15 in the system. That is more aggressive than our community.
However, I revised my rankings for the offseason and they are averaged with Kyle Reis’ for the new site Top 50, so you’ll have to stay tuned to see where Church is placed for 2026. He will soon graduate.
November 16, 2025 at 9:17 pm #295940No problem staying tuned.
I’m also very interested to see what you guys did with Quinn Matthews this year. After the year he had in 2024, you had him ranked at #2 in the system, and I was right along with you on that. But this year he just didn’t put up the kind of stats that generate excitement. Still, the community gave him a #3 ranking. I do not understand the optimism. Reportedly, his fastball picked up 3-4 MPH over his college years at Stanford in 2024 and that was thought to be a big part of the reason for his success. Then, in 2025 the speed of his fastball dropped back down and his stats were not impressive. I checked my 2025 prospect guide again and both Brian and Blake were both very high on Matthews. I’m looking forward to what you and Kyle have to say about Matthews going into 2026.
November 17, 2025 at 7:50 am #295950Here we go! @kyler416 and I begin The Cardinal Nation's 2026 #stlcards prospect countdown with a FREE article. No. 50 is a a first-year reliever who earned two in-season promotions. RH Mason Burns was a standout in the playoffs for Springfield. https://t.co/cJO9EYOu6S pic.twitter.com/p9kuhK9UEw

November 17, 2025 at 2:55 pm #295973Mason Christopher Burns. You guys may not believe this, but “Burnsy” is my #50 too. You know what they say about great minds. He must have felt right at home in Peoria for a good part of this past summer, having been born and raised in Peoria.
November 17, 2025 at 4:12 pm #295974Bloomington is roughly 35 miles or so Pugs, but I’m sure there was a bit of hometown advantage.
That park is where hitters stall it seems, BUT it is an amazing park. When I was in college they had a lot of theme nights, promos so we drove over often for games.
I hope they just start RR in Springfield and Leo in Memphis.November 17, 2025 at 10:21 pm #295986In looking over my last seven TCN Prospect Guides, here are the last seven #50 ranked prospects:
2025 – Dakota Harris
2024 – Guillermo Zuniga
2023 – Nelfy Infante
2022 – Thomas Francisco
2021 – Brendan Donovan
2020 – Bryan Dobzanski
2019 – Derian Gonzales
2918 – Breyvic Valera1. Obviously Brendan Donovan is the standard for hope for all ranked prospects.
2. Zuniga didn’t last long.
3. Cardinals have not given up on Nelfy Infante. He’s only 20 years old, but walked 8.3/9IP in 2025. I can’t vote to rank a pitcher that walks 8.3/9IP. But who knows? There could be something less obvious going on with Nelfy Ynfante.
4. It kind of looks like the ship has sailed for Thomas Francisco, Bryan Dobzanski, Derian Gonzales, and Bryvic Valera.I’d say the take away from this is that if Brendan Donovan can become a coveted player by several MLB organizations, so can every other last ranked prospect.
November 18, 2025 at 6:05 am #295992Good point about Donovan. I had forgotten about that. He was a seventh rounder. BTW, today’s pick at #49 is a sixth rounder.
November 18, 2025 at 6:23 am #295994Speaking of…
At no. 49 in The Cardinal Nation’s #STLCards Top 50 prospect countdown for 2026 is a 2025-drafted outfielder @matt_miura who has a solid all-around game but lacks power. Matthew Miura’s first full season as a pro is just ahead. https://t.co/VtpCTvLH47 pic.twitter.com/ENdHYsf5Fi

November 18, 2025 at 10:34 pm #296075Love Kyle’s appraisal and enthusiasm about Mason Burns. Still, it’s good to see Brian temper things down a bit. But let’s see….yeah…let’s just see.
November 18, 2025 at 11:04 pm #296077Matthew Miura? Could this kid be the next Michael Siani? Kind of sounds like he could be. Speaking of center field, Victor Scott III’s batting line was .216/.305/.601 with 5 HR in 2025. Siani’s batting line for 2024, his one full season with the Cardinals was .228/.285/.570 with 2 HR. He was injured for part of that season and only had 298 AB. Unfortunately for Siani, he got beat out for the CF job by Scott at spring training, 2025.
November 19, 2025 at 6:22 am #296082The Cardinal Nation’s Top 50 prospect countdown for 2026 reaches no. 48 with a catcher who led Peoria in games played and plate appearances. However, Ryan Campos works at the deepest position in the #STLCards system. https://t.co/0tHuvIfZrn pic.twitter.com/TW7DtvEucU

November 19, 2025 at 6:39 am #296085I wanted to put both Miura and Campos in my personal list but both were the final cuts so I could fit a couple DSL guys in. Miura in particular would be “51” on my list. I like him quite a bit still. Hopefully he hits a ton even if it’s without power. Campos is so small that he almost looks funny standing next to other players. I think that size issue may be his undoing, but hopefully he finds ways to use it to his advantage.
November 19, 2025 at 12:56 pm #296093Campos feels like org filler at this point to me which is a shame for a 4th round pick from last year.
There are plenty of catchers above him that will get a chance much earlier than him. My main problem with Campos is this guy is never going to hit for power or even doubles power. He slaps the ball onto the ground at such a high rate (54.2%) that I see it limiting any shot he has beyond a emergency catcher 40 man add.
November 20, 2025 at 10:28 am #296131A lot to say today!
At no. 47 in The Cardinal Nation’s #STLCards Top 50 prospect countdown for 2026 is a 40-man roster OF. Matt Koperniak improved in the second half, but took an overall downturn in 2025 in his second full-season at Triple-A. https://t.co/ICl0y7GItW pic.twitter.com/5uUEVrdoAH
— Brian Walton (@B_Walton) November 20, 2025
November 20, 2025 at 2:10 pm #296149Along with Campos and Miura, Koperniak is another guy who just missed making my top 50.
