7:10 p.m.
RHP Andre Pallante (5-6, 4.07) vs. RHP David Festa (2-2, 4.96)
Apple TV+ // KMOXAugust 22, 2024 at 4:01 pm #265213I will miss most of this one. Why you ask? Well, because it’s time for high school football!
This night I will be down at Jasper for the titanic struggle between the Evansville Memorial Tigers and the Jasper Wildcats.
And today is also a CCFF. That’s Cardinals Catfish Fiddler Friday. Then after CCFF it will be time to head to the game.
Happy Days are here again!

August 22, 2024 at 4:26 pm #265216UPDATE:
I see this is the Apple TV game so I am not going to miss anything whatsoever. I cannot get Apple TV nor do I give a rats rear end about getting it.
August 22, 2024 at 4:28 pm #265217I wish everyone would boycott the Apple TV games so they give up on baseball and stop stealing some Friday night games.
August 22, 2024 at 4:28 pm #265218I’m a little further south, but it feels way to hot for football to be starting up. Those kids better be staying hydrated.
August 22, 2024 at 8:36 pm #265226I’m reasonably certain there will be plenty of baseball fans in the state of Missouri who will rooting for the Cardinals to help out the Royals with two or three wins over the Twins this weekend. I’ve only seen the KC team in the games they played against the Cardinals this season, but in those four games they looked to be a pretty fundamentally sound baseball team. And judging by their W/L record which has them at 15 games above .500, they must be pretty good. At any rate, if the Royals qualify for the playoffs, I’ll certainly be rooting for them to win some games.

While I’m sure Apple would disagree. MLB is getting paid by them to show those games. If it’s not Apple then it will be some other platform you hate that will end up streaming them. Just the way it is.
I personally don’t care. I can watch any game at anytime no matter what platform it’s on.
August 23, 2024 at 7:14 am #265244As a quick aside, Jasper’s Wildcat squad has absolutely no….none….zero…zip….chance of besting Evansville’s upstart Tigers team this evening. Let’s call it 38-10 Tigers shall we. If Jasper does the near impossible and wins, I’ll treat Rat to an entire September of Wednesday buffets over at his Amish eatery. And speaking of food, maybe it’s just me, but I love these Cardinal games on Apple. I think historically we pretty much get drilled every time we play the Twins in their yard. I wonder what our all time record is there? I know we lost our first 4 games that we played there during the ’87 Series and I don’t ever recall coming away happy in any regular season games either. Well let’s buck that trend tonight and defeat this unheralded David Fiesta chap. Let’s call it 6-4 Birds in our first ever victory in the Paul Bunyan State.
August 23, 2024 at 8:12 am #265248I dont mind paying ONE extra service to have access to ALL the games. But that’s not how they do it
I pay for cable PLUS Extra Innings. Then with the Bally’s fiasco I lost those channels for 2 months And when they did come back they were all moved to a higher tier package. On top of that, now a half dozen Friday night games have been split off to yet another different channel (Apple) that requires another subscription because God knows there is never enough money for pro sports….
This is an extremely crappy way to treat your fans and baseball very badly needs to clean up its archaic regional broadcasting rights architecture.
Here is what I know. No matter how much revenue is generated it will never, ever be enough when top pitchers are literally making $10,000 per pitch. $30 to park & $10 beers for the peasants errrr I mean fans
August 23, 2024 at 11:24 am #265257Cards need to keep things rolling. Hoping for a good outcomes against the Twins this weekend!
August 23, 2024 at 11:52 am #265262I see this series as a disaster for our club along the lines of the recent bomb out in Cincinnati.
This Minneapolis-St Paul club has outscored opponents by 73 runs, and are 15 game north of .500 (12 games up at home). We are over 50 runs to the negative, and a game under.
I see a sweep ahead for the home team, and I don’t think any game will be close.
August 23, 2024 at 12:34 pm #265266Pugs I did try insta cart and just got the delivery. They substituted fillets for fiddlers. I see where I can get frozen fiddlers on line, delivered in dry ice, I guess. Not sure about that.
I don’t see any reason we shouldn’t take this series with Carp and Baker ready to come off the bench. Looking forward to Matz and O’Reilly returning and giving us a spark pretty soon.
August 23, 2024 at 1:35 pm #265270I don’t know anything about insta cart, but you can get pretty good fresh fiddlers with chicken livers or blood bait…Them chuckleheads ain’t too picky and when they’re hungry at supper time they’ll hit on most anything at any depth.

Call that number and they will tell you where they are stocking channel catfish in local StLouis area lakes. Busch Wildlife is nice. You can thank me later.
August 23, 2024 at 3:18 pm #265276The Twins share a division with the Royals and two teams have identical 71-56 records. KC took three of four from the Cardinals this season.
August 23, 2024 at 3:29 pm #265278Speaking of a new Cardinal manager, we were speaking about that right? 😁. I wonder if Terry Pendleton would be interested? Played for Whitey Herzog and Bobby Cox – long time coach. Seems like a terrific guy and a leader.
Don’t where he is at in life these days and might be much happier retired than taking on the headaches of managing. I imagine if he wanted to manage he would have gotten a job by now.
August 23, 2024 at 4:13 pm #265288Coincidentally, I was just sent the newest odds for the next MLB manager to be fired:
Schneider Tor – 1/4
Marmol StL – 5/1
Bell Cin – 9/1
Black Col – 10/1August 23, 2024 at 4:36 pm #265293That means they’ll extend him another year…The way this outfit operates, there’s a chance he’ll outlast Johnny.
August 23, 2024 at 5:44 pm #265294August 23, 2024 at 6:40 pm #265296Well, we have had a couple of late innings wins of late in games I had already given up on.
Funny, but back in ’64, like 12 games out on Sept. 1st I hadn’t given up hope. But a Brewers collapse like Philly had is completely out of the question in my jaded old arse’s mind
August 23, 2024 at 6:59 pm #265297It doesn’t seem that long ago that LHP’er Frank Viola took 3 turns and went 2-1 as the Twins beat the Cardinals in a WS that went the full 7 games. I just took a look at the composite box for that ’87 WS and was unpleasantly reminded that a light hitting 2B’man named Steve Lombardozzi touched up Cardinal pitching for 7 hits, 4 RBI’s and a HR while scoring 3 runs and hitting .412 in that WS. LF’er Dan Gladden was also
a genuine headache as he led all Twin’s hitters with 7 RBI’s. Sometimes a player like Lombardozzi come out of nowhere to be a real pain in the backside in big games. I like to call it the Mickey Hatcher factor.August 23, 2024 at 7:12 pm #265298At the National Sports Collectors Convention last year (2023), I watched Al Weis sign autographs wearing a Mets jersey. Was thinking that Weis is still getting a little extra income for being a hero in the 1969 World Series, after being a light hitting middle infielder in his career, mostly with the White Sox.
Still remember the on field interview with Whitey Herzog after game 7 when he was asked about the Twins, and he said “They are good in this ballpark.” 🙂 Had we had home field advantage in that series we might have won it.
August 23, 2024 at 7:17 pm #265299Still hitting Donovan at four. Seems silly, but I guess you look at how few runs we score and it makes sense.
August 23, 2024 at 7:33 pm #265301Yeah, it doesn’t at all surprise me that Weis’ agent suggests he show up to those events wearing a Mets jersey…I vividly recall watching a couple of those ’69 WS games in Miss Latta’s 6th grade classroom. She’d roll in the B&W TV and tune it in to the game for us kids to watch. Miss Latta was an awesome teacher!
August 23, 2024 at 7:37 pm #265303Yeah, Donovan’s obviously being groomed to be the prototypical slugger in the cleanup slot. The logic and reason of this entire outfit is in precise alignment to the mindset of a barrel of monkeys.
