This is a big series. It’s a must that we win at least one of these three games. If we get swept we will probably find ourselves looking up at some other teams. The doom and gloom will start.

I am going to assume that Sonny Gray will start this one. I hope he’s on top of his game.

You are correct Mr.Rat. No room for any losing streaks.

Any guesses what the rotation will be?

I would assume it will be Gray, Lynn, and then Hudson.

Rats, Dakota Hudson is long gone. He was on waivers this past week but was not claimed.

Oops, my mistake. I meant Gibson.

I doubt they throw Mikolas in Atlanta.

I’m an old guy; a Redbird fan for 65+ yrs. Have raised 6 kids that are baseball fans. Loved listening to Harry and Jack on the box every night. the “Cardinal Way” seemed to have worked for more than a few years, and I believe the old eye test is the best way to determine a ballplayer. The guys from th e late 50s, 60s, were players. Got to watch McGee in Nashville, along with Mattingly.. true baseball guys. The Brocks, Gibsons, Boyers, Reds, MUsials,Forschs,Carltons, etc. had an air about them from the get go. EDmonds,Ozzie,Rolen,White, just approached the game differently. Then there was Albert. How could so many overlook him? The Cards have had great teams; putting together those teams just didn’t happen. It took work. We have ballplayers on this team now, not necessarily HOFs but true to life ballplayers. Donovan, Edman, Contreras, possibly Burkeson,Siani. Their approach is just different! Arenado and Goldsmith have aged out to my eye, that happens. We as fans deserve the best the FO can offer. Not a Championship yearly but an exciting ballgame every day. That’s baseball. K’s and lack of hustle doesn’t bring rings or pennants. Thanks for the space to rant.

I think Rat was referring to Kate and not Dakota, Brian.

Welcome Gashouse! I love reading from posters whom can take you back to Cardinal happening from yesteryear. We have several here. You fit like a glove in this ballpark, Gashouse……hope you stick around.

I think the emergence of the young players Burly Donnie Winn and not young but not old either, Contreras is why we are better this year. If Edman comes back healthy we are on the way. Wetherholt cant get here fast enough for me. Im going to semi retire buy a travel trailor and go on road trips to watch the Cardinals when JJ lands.

I am pretty sure that got chiseled into a stone tablet on a mountain top a long time ago.

I can add that Ks and lack of hustle won’t sell tickets either. Not to the joystick generations at least. Mo’s strategy should be to assemble a lineup with enough pop to be able to put a Siani in the nine hole and have him put on a dazzling display in center field every day. The homer a week and nothing in between so-so defender type holds no interest to me, and not to much of anybody else who doesn’t’ have their face glued to a gun display patiently waiting for a mistake to get turned around.

Gibson and Lynn are both allowing a 4-digit ops for July. Gibson has 3 July GS, Lynn 2 GS. There’s no way to avoid that, or push it out of sight, short of a IL stint.

Gray is sporting an .839 ops this month in 2 GS.
Mikolas in 3 GS is allowing a .779 ops.
Pallante’s .620 ops allowed in 2 July GS easily leads the rotation recently.

    Resetting the rotation?
Gibson ain’t right yet. Lynn, ugh…. Those two in the SP 4 & 5 roles and after that cherry pick who the opposition is for the Pallante start.

That is kind of reminding me of last year, jj. If the rotation falls apart we are really fubared.

I showed July. Partial month sample of who’s on and who’s not.

Maybe last 5 GS for each is a better look?

    ERA / GmSc avg

    3.62 / 53 Pallante
    4.06 / 53 Gray
    5.40 / 47 Gibson
    6.08 / 45 Lynn
    6.75 / 40 Mikolas

Well, the AARP group got to miss a start, that’s good, we hope.

The young pitching group in AAA can’t get here fast enough either.

Yes, welcome GasHouse! Similar background here as I grew up mostly in the ‘60s, and my dad would tune in Harry and Jack and we would listen to the games.

A great tradition with 10 pennants in my lifetime. Can’t complain, although I still do at times about the current club. 🙂

Four days in July without baseball feels like the offseason without snow on the driveway. I’ll be happy to get back underway. In any case, I hope those four days of R&R helps the fellas play a lot better in Sept…”I’ll tell you that!”

Speaking of that goofy comment Marmol made last year about all the losses helping them in September – I was thinking that the comment could actually apply to this year’s club to some degree. All these close wins could really help us in September – not only a game in the win column, but the grit and determination to hang in there and grab a close game.

Losses never help, whether it is September or any other month. Ollie was out to lunch on that attempt to find a silver lining. But if he brings it out this year, like after the come-from-behind 5-4 win last week, it really does have merit.

I mean I’m tired of old guys and Matz. We need Hence Matthews Roby to reach their potential.

Let’s hope he says as little as is possible. Loose lips sink ships and no amount of talk ever put a W up on the board. The less he talks, the better off the team is.

OK, yeah, we do need top prospect type pitchers to start panning out.

As to AAA specifically, there might be two or three guys who can freshen up next spring’s laundry list.
