It’s appropriate that the Cards and Cubs are playing on the 60 year anniversary of “Brock-Broglio Day.”

One of those deals that impacted the future of both clubs. I met Bing Devine back in the ‘90s and again in 2005. He said the Cardinals, who had known about Brock from his prep days and had made inquiries about him before, offered the Cubs their choice of five pitchers in a deal where Brock was the centerpiece coming back. The Cubs kept hesitating and putting off any serious talks to a deal, but finally just as the Cardinals were boarding a plane to Houston, they had a deal in place. Devine wanted to double check with manager Johnny Keane, and said he would call back after they landed in Houston. As Devine boarded the plane he saw Keane, who was already seated, and told him they had a deal where the Cubs would get Broglio and Bobby Shantz, plus the Cardinals would have to kick in Doug Clemens. He wanted Keane’s thoughts and Johnny looked up at him and said “what are we waiting for?”

So that was that – the deal was completed in Houston and the rest as they say, is history.

It sure is. The baseball stars fittingly aligned to have the Cardinals play the Cubs at Wrigley on June 15th.

I’m looking forward to seeing Shogun for the first time, but I’m not at all ready to automatically concede a Cubs victory simply by looking at Chimichanga’s lusterous 6-1 W/L record or his micro-mini 1.96 ERA. He may be pretty good, but we’ve got a SP’er who brings, “The Deathball” to the mound…That ought to cancel out Shogun and his Katana!

    On a good note……

The Reds lead the Brewers 6-2 in the last of the 6th at County Stadium in Milwaukee. Will be nice if the Reds could sweep Milwaukee or win two of three.

And on a really good note…….

FRONT ROW AMY IS IN ATTENDANCE IN MILWAUKEE!

Cincinnati’s been playing well. Looks like they’ll be 15-5 in their last 20 games if they can hold on for a W tonight.

Reds NARROWLY squeak out a 6-5 win tonight at County Stadium in Milwaukee.

The Brewers had a runner called safe on a bang bang play at the plate that temporarily tied the game in the last of the 9th. The Reds challenged and it was overturned. That kept the score 6-5 and the Brewers still had runners at 2nd and 3rd. The next batter tried to bunt and popped it right to Diaz the pitcher for the final out.

I’ll be darned. Sounds like Cincinnati was fortunate the safe call at HP was overturned. I had to look at the box to confirm the number of outs but I wonder why the Brewers attempted a bunt with 2 outs with the tying and winning runs aboard at 2nd and 3rd? At any rate, I’m happy the Reds won to inch us a half game closer to MIL.

Obviously today’s goal is to vault above the .500 mark, but insofar as the standings go, the Cardinals are closer to first place in their division than are either the Braves or Padres. I can only speak for myself, but I didn’t see that coming.

You must have missed him in St.Louis when they played. He was very ordinary.

Can the Cardinals get above .500 for the first time since they were 2-1 after the Toronto series to open the 2023 season?

We don’t have to wait very long to find out…

For those who have access to it and have interest, Adam Wainwright is an analyst on the FS1 telecast today. Or you could stay with BSM, “fer sure!”

I’m glad to see Pages getting a run at C. I think this is the best lineup we can put together T the moment against a LHP.

Carlson needs to continue taking advantage of the playing time against lefties and show he deserves a starting role.

We really have our work cut out for us today with Imanaga going for the Cubs and Pallante for us. Maybe we can get to the BP quickly.

Well sort of, booyah….I saw him sitting in the Cub’s dugout holding his wagasa to protect him from the elements. He had that thing spread wide open which prevented me from getting a clear view of the rookie phenom…Hopefully the weather will be a bit more accomodating at Wrigley.

The most infamous Saturday game at Wrigley was June 23, 1984. We don’t ever need to see a repeat of that.

I am glad to see Pages getting some run at C also. He can really handle himself behind the plate and the pitchers seem to like the way he calls a game. Hopefully he can continue to get the occassional base knock.

I don’t know, gscottar. The outcome of that baseball game was not what you wanted to see as a Cardinal fan, but as a baseball fan, a game like that doesn’t get too much better. I’ll take ’em like that all season long.

Din-din today will be a Hungry Man’s Roasted Turkey dinner. Then a big bowl of Turkey Hill Vanilla Bean ice cream. This feast will commence along about the same time as first pitch. Then after dining it will be time for a couple of 6×50 Palma Real Toro cigars. And yes, Whitey Herdog will be on the couch with me tuning in to BSMW – Fer Sure..:)

I am afraid Shohnee Iamanaga will be too much for us today. I am calling this one 7-1 Cubs. Sorry. Hope I am in error.

I’m going to disagree and guess that the Cardinals place this one in the W column to rise above the .500 mark. Also, it’s lunchtime and I’m hungry…Does Shohnee’s Big Boy, serve Chimichangas?

I will watch some of this, but fully expect the Cubs to break out of their scoring slump and even the series. As everyone knows, I have no confidence at all in Pallante. But my mind can be changed – he just has not done enough to change it yet. 😫

Whenever we go to Wrigley I wonder how Steve Bartman is doing.

Again no idea what din-din will be. The lovely lady Bike has been kicking around with our eldest daughter at thrift stores this morning, and called a few minutes ago to say they are bringing lunch home. Didn’t say what it is, but I will find out about the time the game starts.

I read that he and Taylor Swift were recently married in a secret ceremony held on the tropical island of Bora Bora…
