RHP Miles Mikolas (1-1, 4.76) vs. RHP Zac Gallen (2-0, 2.25)
MLB Network // BSM // KMOXApril 13, 2024 at 10:53 pm #247899Miles better bring it for this one.
April 13, 2024 at 11:11 pm #247901Its obvious that teams have the scouting report on Scott. Anybody notice how many pitches to him are up in the zone? They want him to hit it in the air so they can stay away from his speed. And he’s obliging them.
April 14, 2024 at 8:36 am #247915Well boys and girls, this is shaping up as another lost series. We may not get a hit today against our old buddy Zac.
It looks like after today we will have lost 5 of our last 7. At 10% of the season we will have eerily just about the same winning percentage as last year. Obviously with 90% of the season left a lot can change. But based on what we have seen, the early reports are not good.
And the NL Central looks stronger than expected. The team that has surprised me is Milwaukee. They are off to a terrific start. I thought without Burnes and Woodruff they would need a couple of years to recover.
Again, a long way to go. But from what we have seen things don’t look any better than last year, and they might be worse with our club treading water and other teams improved.
April 14, 2024 at 9:52 am #247921They want him to hit it in the air so they can stay away from his speed.
It’s always been the case that you want to make little guys hit it in the air and big guys hit it on the ground. Of course, some clip board cadet thinks he just discovered it.
April 14, 2024 at 12:36 pm #247925Our offense has been rather sluggish so far this year so making out a lineup card for this team is not easy but I have to say Oli handcuffs himself because he is so obsessed with the RH/LH stagger instead of actually placing hitters where they should be. In no universe should Gorman be hitting third but Oli thinks having Goldy and Arenado hit back to back will summon the apocalypse.
I will also mention that at some point we may begin to hear whispers of whether Walker should go back to Memphis to regroup. He seems to be completely lost and overmatched at the plate so far.

CF Mike Siani LNo point sending Walker, Winn and Scott out there vs Gallen
Both catchers in lineup.
April 14, 2024 at 12:49 pm #247927In his last 5 games Winn’s 7 for 17 which translates to a .412 avg. and the Cardinal manager decides to sit him.
April 14, 2024 at 1:18 pm #247929Our manager makes a lot of odd decisions. I wonder how long he is going to go with this Goldschmidt-at-two nonsense.
But really, we could probably throw Stan, Albert and The Rajah in their prime out there today and not get much off of Gallen.
April 14, 2024 at 1:37 pm #247933The odd thing about this manager is that both of his predecessors were axed despite having more success than this guy. With this guy, lack of success is always due to extenuating circumstances – too many injuries, lack of clubhouse leadership, etc. At some point you would think the win-loss record would factor in, but maybe upper management figure that is their fault more than the manager.
And there is a lot of truth to that.
April 14, 2024 at 1:42 pm #247935mike, Shildt getting fired proved that winning isn’t the most important thing. Ollie seems to be good at whatever the most important thing is.
April 14, 2024 at 1:56 pm #247936Winn is 22. He’s swinging a legit hot bat. Why keep him out?
This move is inexplicable!
April 14, 2024 at 1:57 pm #247937The brass knows that if they fire too many managers without achieving better results that some fans might realize that there are other problems than the manager.
April 14, 2024 at 2:41 pm #247938So what if Gallen gets the turn today? It’s silly to create any impression that the young SS isn’t up to the task. I say place him in a position to compete with the best. It’s like they’re coddling him. Wrap him in cotton and protect him from the big mean Gallen boogey man…
April 14, 2024 at 2:45 pm #247939Winn should be in today’s lineup batting #2. Goldschmidt at #3.
April 14, 2024 at 2:47 pm #247940Well, since Crawford is on the roster you have to give him occasional reps. But I ageee, with our offense struggling benching one of the most productive bats does not make sense.
It is looking like Winn will make a nice number two hitter in the near future. Not sure how long Ollie can go with the setup he has been using. I would be putting Goldy down in the 5 or 6 slot for awhile until he starts to hit, and put Winn at two.
April 14, 2024 at 2:55 pm #247942Crawford is playing because he can only back up one position and he is getting paid several million dollars to do so. Have tp play him once a week, or at least every other week.
April 14, 2024 at 2:58 pm #247943Herrera catching
Contreras DH
By gosh, it can be done!April 14, 2024 at 3:01 pm #247944It certainly can, Steve.
April 14, 2024 at 3:08 pm #247945It’s like they’re coddling him. Wrap him in cotton and protect him from the big mean Gallen boogey man…
Its not like that, it is that.
April 14, 2024 at 3:15 pm #247946It might just be a simple case of, “It was his scheduled day off anyway”…
