RHP Lance Lynn vs. RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto

plus Bally Sports SouthWhen Yamamoto faced Diego last week he struggled. Velocity was down and he left some meatballs right over the heart of the plate.
Lynn was brought in for IP and quality starts, and we could use one today. Only thing left to do is win the next two, take the split, and call it a road series victory.
jj, my first thought was Lynn only had 13.2 IP in spring training, so we shouldn’t expect too much in the way of a quality start. But I checked and Bobby Miller only had 13.0 IP and he just logged a career high in strike outs in his quality start. Glasnow only had 10.0 IP in ST and he was up to it. So no, I changed my mind, excuses are not going to work. Lance steps up and performs or takes the heat.
Another factor is that Miller is a very young pitcher, while the veteran Lynn supposedly knows what he needs to do in camp to be ready for the season. We will find out tonight, with more veterans in Gibson and Matz next in the barrel.
Yesterday I said I would be happy if we didn’t start off the game walking Betts. Well OK, I was not careful what I asked for.
Hopefully Lynn provides a quality start, the bullpen brings it home, and offense can score at least 5 runs.
The first 16 games are a meat grinder for sure. 8-8 or even 7-9 won’t be too bad but 5-11 would really be rough and the noise surrounding the team would be pretty extreme.
I’m thinking/hoping the Cards jump all over Yama today and score 8 runs. Criticize Goldy, Gorman, Nado all you want, but it’s my hunch Yama may struggle against these type of hitters initially in his MLB career.
Will it be enough? Remains to be seen!
I keep telling everone – it’s possible the Redbirds start the season 0-7.
I would be surprised at that, but only mildly.
At least me and Whitey Herdog will be able to watch the game tonight.
And din-din today will be a Hungry Man’s Turkey and Dressing dinner. Along with some ice cold slushy Mt. Dew and a big bowl of Turkey Hill Vanilla Bean ice cream.

It’s my understanding there is a major storm with chances of flooding in southern California today and tomorrow.
Will this affect the games the next two days? The Doppler Radar shows alot of green stuff in the southern California area.
You are correct Rat. There is a lot of rain in the LA area right now. I hope we can get these next two games in without a rainout or a doubleheader. It would be nice to leave Dodger stadium tomorrow night and not have to return for the rest of the season.

CF Victor Scott LCarp, Herrera, and Crawford make their appearances. Will be interesting to see if we can knock Yamomoto around a bit. He had a dismal spring and a bad opener.
I don’t like this lineup therefore the Cards probably win 12-0.
Winn gets a couple of hits last night so yeah, let’s jerk him out of the lineup – he’s 21 and clearly we need to watch his innings as his legs may go at any minute.
I think I would have sat Burleson instead of Walker.

The managerial wheels are spinning but I smell Mo behind this not Marmol.
Crawford probably won’t get a nice reception after spending years with the fierce rival of the Dodgers. Maybe he can do something to give the Dodger faithful a little extra heartburn.

They say the game will start on time. It’s cool, mid 50s. They are hoping the rain holds off.
We shall see. Wouldn’t be the worst thing for St. Louis if these two games were postponed.
Taking a gander at the out-of-town scoreboard:
The Reds and Diaz blew a 6-4 lead in the 9th and fell to Washington 7-6.
Milwaukee over the Mets again, this time by the score of 7-6.
And Texas leads the Cubs 5-2 in the 5th.
The Cardinals aren’t scheduled to be back in LA again this year to see the Dodgers so they really don’t need a rainout.
