6:45 p.m.
RHP Miles Mikolas (6-8, 4.20) vs. LHP JP Sears (2-9, 4.32)
BSM // KMOX // WIJR
(and Bally Sports Southeast/Southwest Extra)August 13, 2023 at 9:29 pm #231431I’d like to see if they could get TLR to return for this three game series and manage both teams…I can almost guarantee the three games would be better if he did.
August 13, 2023 at 9:48 pm #231432When is Wainwright slated to start again?
August 13, 2023 at 9:51 pm #231434Both teams combined only have 10 more wins than the Braves.
The baseball equivalent of a weiner dog race.
August 13, 2023 at 10:21 pm #231436Haha!…That’s pretty bad, but them Braves are pretty good. I noticed over the weekend that their 1B’man has collected 43 HR’s and 107 RBI’s, but is probably still way behind Acuna as the odds on favorite for the NL MVP award. Moreover, they have 2 or 3 other guys who can scare the daylights out of the opposing pitcher. They throw an entire army of dangerous bats at you.
August 14, 2023 at 4:50 am #231440We’ve got dangerous bats too. I think the main difference is we’ve got Mo and the philosophy and they’ve got Anthopoulos. No amount of better pitching is going to fix that.
August 14, 2023 at 8:12 am #231452Wainwright got shelled by the Royals but only went an inning+.
Brian posted up in another thread that Wainwright will make his next start against the Metropolitans…. Almost rather throw him out there in game 3 against the A’s.
August 14, 2023 at 9:41 am #231461John Patrick Sears. This crafty southpaw from beautiful Sumter, South Carolina is exactly the type of pitcher our club needs to bring aboard. John Patrick is right on the precipice of putting it all together. Doesn’t walk many, with his WHIP never venturing too far north of 1.00. Has options left and is not arb elg until ’26.
As the recent trade deadline approached, I was so hoping Mo was going to swing a deal for the likes of a John Patrick Sears. Thanks to all who emailed me over the last two weeks and did not receive a reply , but ole’ Pugs had been on a whirlwind Canadian vacation, greatly depleting their once abundant population of both Walleye and Northern Pike.
August 14, 2023 at 12:16 pm #231469The forecast for today looks good for the St. Louis area. We had some storms and rain overnight and the Doppler shows some more green stuff possibly headed for SW Indiana.
Din-din today is a ribeye steak in the air fryer, a couple ears of Aces High sweet corn, an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew, and a big bowl of Turkey Hill Vanilla Bean ice cream.
Then later tonight me and Whitey Herdog will be on the couch for the Oakland/St. Louis game from Sportsman’s Park. And the late game tonight will the Tampa Bay at San Francisco from Candlestick Park. Probably 2-3 7×50 Palma Real Presidente cigars will be consumed during these titanic battles tonight as well. Along with a late night snack of a bacon and egg sandwich.

You’ll forgive me, I hope, but it’s Whitey Herzog and I. Don’t set a bad example for the kids.
August 14, 2023 at 1:09 pm #231474This is a series where winning 2 of 3 will show how bad we are. Losing the series should result in major personnel changes.
Sweeping the series will be a case of “at least there is one team we can sweep.”
August 14, 2023 at 2:36 pm #231476Since the trade deadline has passed, what kind of major personnel changes could they make at this point?
August 14, 2023 at 3:02 pm #231477SS Tommy Edman S
1B P. Goldschmidt R
3B N. Arenado R
C W. Contreras R
2B Nolan Gorman L
LF T. O’Neill R
CF L. Nootbaar L
DH Luken Baker R
RF J. Walker RI noticed that Denton had posted a different lineup, with Noot leading off and Edman 5th, so I do not know which is current. Baker is 8th and Walker 9th in both .
August 14, 2023 at 3:48 pm #231478He changed his to what you have bling.
Updated #STLCards lineup for tonight: Tommy Edman now hitting leadoff and Lars Nootbaar dropped to seventh. Luken Baker still in the lineup at DH and hitting eighth. https://t.co/ay07KPdftR

August 14, 2023 at 3:48 pm #231479#STLCards LHP Steven Matz (lat strain) will be put on the 15-day IL, president John Mozeliak said. LHP Zack Thompson will replace him in the starting rotation.

jj-cf-stlParticipantI’ve noticed when Arenado bats third, the “Goldy to the 3 spot” crusade disappears.
Tonight makes 6 out of the last 10 games with Arenado batting third.
August 14, 2023 at 4:33 pm #231482Man, just as Matz is going good he goes to the IL.
Yeah, with Arenado at 3 the lineup makes a little more sense than with a Noot, Contreras, Gorman, etc. Want a good all around hitter there – some pop as well as good OBP.
Gorman is a potential future #3 hitter, but is probably better suited at 5 this early in his career.
August 14, 2023 at 4:39 pm #231483Add on to the lineup talk – if both are healthy I think Donovan and Nootbaar would be a great 1 & 2 versus righties. You might put a righty hitter in one of those slots versus a lefty, but against a righty those guys would be a great way to go at the top.
August 14, 2023 at 4:53 pm #231484With Thompson replacing Matz, who is going to be ready to follow Wainwright if he bows out early again?
August 14, 2023 at 5:20 pm #231486And by the way folks. MLB’s worst umpire is back on the job. He was at it again yesterday in the Yankees game in Miami. The announcers were trashing him again.
Sooner or later we will probably have him. Not that it really matters though……
August 14, 2023 at 5:36 pm #231487Saw this bit of speculation on MLB trade rumors site.
Given the lingering nature of some oblique injuries and the fact that the Cardinals are out of contention, it isn’t out of the question that Carlson might have already played his last game of the 2023 season….or even his last game in a St. Louis uniform.
August 14, 2023 at 5:51 pm #231488second baseman Nolan Gorman has been scratched from tonight’s home game against the #Athletics with lower back tightness.
Taylor Motter will play second base and hit ninth tonight.

jj-cf-stlParticipantSo it’s about WHO is in the 3spot, instead of “lets move Goldy there to help his rbi total.”
Thanks for confirming.
August 14, 2023 at 6:25 pm #231492Din-din tonight was heavily buttered noodles with salt & pepper, fresh deep red Wisconsin sliced tomatoes with salt & pepper, buttered asparagus spears with salt & pepper, 3 Popeye’s apple cinnamon apple pies without salt & pepper and a can of La Croix coconut sparkling water to wash it all down the hatch with.
My heart says 6-3 Birds in tonight’s affair, but my head says 4-3 Oakland. In these sort of situations one should always opt to go with their heads, so I’ll be forced to officially call this one 4-3 A’s on the strength of some nifty pitching from the aforementioned John Patrick Sears.
