If there’s ever a time for Flaherty to step up and be an Ace then this is the game. I’ll probably miss most of this game as I will be out on the John Deere mowing. I might get back in time to catch the last few innings while I have my din-din.

And speaking of din-din, tomorrow it will be a think center cut rib chop in the air fryer, a couple ears of corn, mashed potatoes/gravy, an ice cold/slushy Mt. Dew, and not sure about dessert.

As I stated late last night, the Pirates, Reds, Cubs all lost. And then Milwaukee also lost. 7-1 to the Rockies at Mile High Stadium in Colorado.

Sooner or later things will start to turnaround. And it better be sooner before it really is too late…….

Win pct is .323 which equates to 52-110.

We’ve still got a couple American League dregs to chase down, but Randy Flores has got to be thinking “we’ve got this”. The chance to draft the next Mark Appel isn’t just a pipe dream, and if he gets the chance, he knows he and his crew have what it takes to pull it off.

Flaherty is not an ace. He’s the best (maybe) of a less than mediocre lot.

I think Montgomery is the best starter we have and to me he’s a #3.

Here’s how I would slot in our starters at this point:

    #3 Montgomery
    #4/5 Mikolas
    #5/- Flaherty
    – Woodford
    – Matz

    It ain’t pretty.

    In the wings:

    #4/5 Wainwright
    #3/4 Liberatore

We desperately need a #1 and a #2 but I don’t see where they will come from this season.

Flaherty was an ace once, back in 2019, when he finished fourth in the Cy Young vote. But that was a long time ago.

    Brian,

Agreed, and maybe he will be again.

We can hope for that version of Flaherty to resurface but that was 4 seasons ago.

Some interesting takes by the author of this article.

“I think the Cardinals have an under-talented rotation and too many jumbled minds.”

“When a front office is preaching patience, and ownership is debuting Stifel uniform patches while the team is getting stifled, you can see how urgency can be questioned.”

“The definition of insanity, president of baseball operations John Mozeliak likes to say, is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Blaming the manager for everything that goes wrong can fit that description.

When a start is this bad, everyone owns it.

Some of the lumps Marmol is taking, though, should be directed toward underperforming players in the clubhouse he is defending, or toward a front office that is still searching for the urgency it misplaced after signing catcher Willson Contreras this offseason.

Marmol just brushed back Busch’s boo birds. That’s risky business. If players and executives don’t start backing up his belief with their performances, they will be leaving him out on a limb.”

Yep, those are some of the problems we’ve all observed. Back to the same question, though – the hard part – what to do about it?

What this columnist is hinting is that the first shoe to drop would be firing Marmol. (FWIW, I don’t see how “executives” can improve their performance in the real time. For me, it is on the players.)

And the “under-talented rotation” is whose fault exactly?

Firing the manager for players who aren’t doing their job makes no sense whatsoever.

Even if scheduled in advance the timing of the sponsorship patch announcement was ill advised. If nothing else just issue a press release instead of a press conference. It was symbolic of the tone deafness. Read the room.

Firing the manager is usually a knee-jerk reaction. Just an observation it won’t stand up in court but there is something off with this team and the manager looks angry and lost.

I think the sense among the BFIB is that Oli is following the script out there.

I think next go round MLB should sit out the WBS, an awful lot of the players that participated are under performing in their REAL jobs!!!

Absolutely. But it almost certainly has nothing to do with the team losing games. It just angered the fan base.

WTH IS NOOTBAAR DOING LEADING OFF?????

Oh, that’s right, I forgot. He drew a walk the other day. He’s so valuable. This is about like Tyler Greene from years ago. Some people thought he was so valuable because he hit a double once.
