I’ll be on the couch for this one. I missed last night’s game due to being down in Jasper for the titanic struggle of the Evansville Harrison Warriors and the Jasper Wildcats. The Wildcats of Jasper High School prevailed in this one 6-3.

About to head to the Amish restaurant on the lake, north of town, called Lakeview for din-din. Catfish Fiddlers, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, noodles, dressing, sweet tea, and some vanilla soft serve ice cream will be on the menu.

Walker doesn’t get a hit yesterday and is riding the pine. Must already be in Ollie’s doghouse.

CF and LF, I like. We will see how RF goes.

Looking at just those numbers, I would drop Contresas down in the order until he starts producing. That 5 spot is really hurting us.

I like what I am seeing out of Burleson and Gorman though.

As for Oviedo, I have always liked him. Think I said that last year when we made the deal, that getting Quintana was good, but with some maturity Oviedo looked like he would be a good one. I saw him start a game out here a couple of years ago, and liked his style. Good approach, mechanics, stuff – needed to work on his command, but had the tools from what I could see. Seemed a couple of years away. I like Woody as well – will be interesting to see how each guy’s career goes.

I keep hoping the Contreras flower will burst into bloom to the delight of us all, but not much evidence of it so far to keep our hopes alive. How long can we live with the “It’s early yet excuse?”

Yeah, with Contreras who knows. It will happen, but I would have had him at the 8 spot in that order, and move the others up a notch. Put Gorman at 5,O’Neill at 6 and Carlson at 7.

Also Donovan needs to pick up the pace. I would still keep him at the top, but to date he has not gotten on base at the clip we need.

Donovan spent the winter with sensors stuck all over him and his bat, working with a team of gurus optimizing his swing mechanics to get more power. Somewhere there was an article where he was telling us all about it. I was horrified and still am.

Hmmm, weird. We have power guys – we need on-base guys to be able to better utilize the power.

I don’t guess it’s a big deal, but I was just looking at a portion of the pregame which happened to show Mark Whiten’s 4 HR’s in a ’93 game at CIN. I happened to listen to that game on the radio. Now, I’m aware it happened 30 years ago, but the replays looked so blurred and grainy that it was though I were looking at a newsreel taken from WW 1. And I’ve noticed the same thing on much more recent video from the not too distant past. You’d think that they would have a better process to preserve or improve the quality of some of those old clips. At any rate, it doesn’t seem that awfully long ago when I listened to that ballgame in which Whiten tatered up 4 times. Maybe I’m just getting old and that game was played back when the cave men were still roaming the cheap seats…Haha!

Man, how can O’Neill not recognize that slider off the plate and down? I thought he got over that in 2021.

Woodford looks like he has pretty good stuff. But he is making too many pitches that are not close to the zone. Needs to stay closer to the strike zone even when he misses.

Yeah, Woody’s stuff is good enough. Control is wobbly. He’s getting it done but its not sexy.

Oviedo makes Burleson look silly on that down and in breaking ball. Usually Alec puts a good swing on, but not that time.

St Louis has not scored in 12 innings since leaving Denver.

Contreras needs a bat that’s two feet longer.
