The main thing with this game and the entire series boils down to this one MAJOR question:

WILL FRONT ROW AMY BE IN ATTENDANCE???

Plus I wonder if Pugs will be in attendance as well? That’s a secondary issue, however..:)

I hope Flaherty can show up big for this one …

Let’s hope so, ZTR. He’ll have an extra day to gather up some steam. Don’t know exactly why, but I’ve never cared for the term “ace.” I’ve always thought of the #1 member of the rotation as the proverbial stopper. Mr. Jack can sieze upon that role in MIL he if can put a stop to an unpleasant 3 game stretch that the Redbirds experienced vs. ATL.

Jack threw 5 no hit innings last time out with no runs allowed, so the other starters should make him their king.

Yeah, he’s already established his place on the throne, Bling. Let’s hope his reign is a lengthy one because if he abdicates on Friday, the legitimacy of the Cardinal monarchy could be in danger of abolition…

The Cardinals need a good series and some positive things happen. The lousy starting pitching where we are behind early is demoralizing. Then you have the O’Neill/Marmol side show that the manager has not handled well going on.

Management cannot be real happy with Oli right now, nor Ty. But the manager crossed the line with the public comments. That underlying tension makes this early season a big downer compared to the good vibes coming out of Spring Training.

Yeah, the early beatings have literally taken place at once and it’s not been just a run or two. The opposing pitcher’s been alloted a handful of runs to work with and he’s presented with the ability to simply place it on autopilot, so to speak. No pressure to wear him down and he can nibble and not be overly concerned about a BB or two. Not at all a hazardous working environment.

I believe Oli publicly called out Bader last season and Oli is still here and Bader is gone.

The national media is really hyping the Marmol-O’Neill feud. It was near the top of the page on yahoo.com, although I couldn’t find it just now.
They need to put this behind them.

A couple of long dongs this weekend and scoring from 1st on a double will put all this stupid stuff behind the media. Then it won’t be an issue anymore.

And my fingers are crossed…..Here’s to Amy being in the Front Row tonight!

These things happen publicly from time to time. Whitey Herzog publicly called out Keith Hernandez for a lack of hustle, albeit after the trade, but it was no secret that they had tensions. He literally yanked Gary Templeton off of the field, albeit for a rude gesture. John Mozeliak publicly called out Dexter Fowler for a lack of hustle.

This little spat will blow over eventually but I am personally more concerned about our lack of pitching than coming up with the next excuse to fire Ollie.

The Carlson opportunity narrative is looking like a fizzle.

It’s only 6 games, but if Walker continues to scorch the baseball he should steadily work his way north in the line-up. Maybe the 6th or even the 5th slot. I’d be tempted to place him in front of Goldy in the 2 slot right now. At any rate, he shouldn’t stay slotted at 8th in the line-up for long at all.

I don’t know why I’m even mentioning anything about the hitting order. We need a SP’er who can record outs and not work his way into trouble in the early innings tonight.

I still say right now vs RHP I’d hit
    1. Donovan 2B (L)
    2. Edman SS (S)
    3. Goldschmidt 1B (R)
    4. Arenado 3B (R)
    5. Gorman DH (L)
    6. Contreras C (R)
    7. Burleson LF (L)
    8. Walker RF (R)
    9. Carlson CF (S)

If Walker proves he’s not going to be over exposed and have constant competitive AB’s, I’d flip Contreras and Walker. Same with Carlson, he could flip with Edman if he can have competitive AB’s.

    Vs LHP I’d go
    1. Edman SS (S)
    2. O’Neill LF (R)
    3. Goldschmidt 1B (R)
    4. Arenado 3B (R)
    5. Walker RF (R)
    6. Contreras C (R)
    7. Yepez DH (R)
    8. Carlson CF (S)
    9. Donovan 2B (L)
At least until I could trade O’Neill, I’ve been hoping for it for 2 years now and I’ll keep on hoping.

As gscottar mentioned, these little spats occur quite often and are usually short lived. One particular newsworthy one was the LaRussa-Rolen feud towards the end of the 2006 season and into the playoffs.

I see Ty is in the lineup tonight. Hopefully he does not get hurt from over-hustling. I mean they seriously – he will likely want to go the extra mile to show the manager he is a gamer – which he has been in his career.

A little Cardinals/Brewers baseball trivia before we get underway…

    1. In the 1982 Cardinals/Brewers WS, 3 Redbird players tied for lead in hits in that 7 game series with 9 of them. Lonnie Smith and George Hendrick were 2 of those players who collected 9 hits. Who was the 3rd Cardinal player who collected 9 hits in that Redbird championship winning WS?

    2. That same 1982 WS had a total of 7 future HOF players between the 2 teams who were present on the two teams WS rosters. Who were those 7 future HOF’ers?

    3. Everyone probably remembers that David Freese was named MVP of the 2011 Cardinals/Brewers NLCS. He certainly deserved it as he led the Cardinals with 12 hits, 3 HR’s, 9 RBI’s and placed a scathing .545 BA on the books for that 6 game series. However, another Redbird player also collected 9 RBI’s to tie Freese in the all important RBI dept. Who was that Cardinal player that also had 9 RBI’s in that 6 game series.

No hints on these as they shouldn’t be too awfully difficult for this elite sqaud of TCN experts…

We all know about the hazards associated with the evil baseball gypsies, but if you look up any of the answers prior to submitting them you may well also be exposed to the genuine possibility of the current Redbird field manager calling for a media presser in which he will publicly disclose your darkest and most guarded family secrets…

Arenado and Goldschmidt will get at least one homerun in this series. You can take that to the bank.

I recall Rolen/TLR being a little different. Rolen was the first of the 2 to mention anything to the press regarding his claim that he was 100% healthy. Once he did, TLR presented his case for why he was limiting Scott’s playing time and that he thought it was in the best interest of the team. Moreover, neither one of them accused the other of displaying a lack of effort.

Woodruff mows the Cards down in 12 pitches in the 1st. Need similar efficiency from Jack now.

And Jack makes it through the 1st on 13 pitches. Good start.
