Game 1 Phillies at Padres tonight. Game 2 Wednesday afternoon.
Game 1 Yankees at Astros Wednesday night.
Who ya got?
October 18, 2022 at 6:36 pm #204885Well, tonight we get to see the two titans of the NL face off for a ticket to the ’22 WS. I like the Phillies to win this NLCS. To steal a line from the great Nolan Ryan…”We’ll get it done in 6.”
October 18, 2022 at 8:42 pm #204898I am predicting the Yankers over them there Astro boys. I just think the big bats of the Yankers will pound out more wangers than the Astros. I am calling this one Yanks in six.
October 18, 2022 at 9:09 pm #204902With the exception of field manager, I think Houston has an edge over NY in every area of the game. I like the Astros chances and it wouldn’t surprise me if they dispatch the Yankees in 4 or 5 games. However, the dreaded Dusty curse may well turn out to have an impact on the outcome of this ALCS…
October 19, 2022 at 7:02 am #204914How did Arenado and Goldschmidt only go 1 for 15 or whatever?!?! Wheeler just spun another gem.
October 19, 2022 at 4:19 pm #204962Phillies with the early 4-0 lead on the Padres in the top of the 2nd at Jack Murphy Stadium in Game #2. I am starting to suspect it will be the Phillies that will be the team that gets hot this post season. Unfortunately, we had to play them.

October 19, 2022 at 4:25 pm #204964Although they’ve only played 3, Houston has yet to lose a game. Everything seems to be going right for Philly. Lots of scratch hits finding holes. Broken bat RBI base hit by Sosa. Soto loses one in the sun in RF. Uh oh…Back to back taters for SD. Now 4-2. Things can change in a hurry…
October 19, 2022 at 4:26 pm #204965Back to back homers for the Padres 4-2
October 19, 2022 at 4:28 pm #204966Oliver…Haha! I guess you me and Rats are the only ones watching…
October 19, 2022 at 5:04 pm #204970Nola surrenders the 2 solo taters and then swithches back to autopilot. Looks like he’s cruising and back in command of this game.
October 19, 2022 at 7:12 pm #204975Bader with another tater. This one off Verlander who only allowed 12 HR’s all season.
October 19, 2022 at 7:13 pm #204976And now Harry Bader homers again down in Houston. 1-0 Yankers in the 2nd.
October 19, 2022 at 7:26 pm #204978While watching SD in the NLCS, I was looking at some Padre teams of the past and happened to notice that although he never had a 200 hit season while he was a Padre, during his career Steve Garvey had 6 seasons in which he collected 200 or more hits in a season. What I found to be incredibly surprising is that the great SD Padre Tony Gwynn only had 5 seasons of 200 or more hits. Garvey was pretty good.

ParticipantMy boy bader keeps this stuff up and he may get him some most valuable hardware if Yankees can win another round. Though I think if the big guys do anything, they will probably get it.
October 19, 2022 at 8:00 pm #2049801982willie…Right now he’s first in line for the Mickey Hatcher factor award.
October 19, 2022 at 8:47 pm #204983My boy bader keeps this stuff up and he may get him some most valuable hardware if Yankees can win another round.
Hey, watch out willie, I called it first a few days ago. Bader staking a claim to Babe Ruth Postseason MVP Award is in progress.
October 20, 2022 at 6:37 am #204992SD sure looked like they were in trouble being down 4-0 early in game 2. It would have been a tall order to head into Philly having to win 2 of 3 games just to survive and return to Petco. I’d say the Phillies have to be somewhat satisfied to have split the first 2 games in SD. Houston looks to be far and away the superior team of the post-season. I can’t detect a weakness anywhere on their ballclub. If the Astros win tonight, the Yankees better hope that the Dusty curse induces him to do something inane to afford them a sliver of a chance.

stlcard25ParticipantBader is Arozarena v.2.0? Smh, Mo fleeced on another deal. 😉
In all seriousness, glad he’s doing well for his home town team.
October 20, 2022 at 7:47 am #204994Montgomery pitched extremely well for the Cards after coming over.
If Bader performs in the long run for NY about like he did for the Cardinals that’s an easy win for StL.
Cards have outfield options and a good starting pitcher is more valuable in my opinion.

cardsfan64ParticipantI agree, ZTR. Looks like this trade will end up being a win-win!
October 20, 2022 at 8:45 am #205001The teams remaining in the MLB playoffs ranked 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 9th in payroll this year

October 20, 2022 at 9:18 am #205004Thanks for posting the salary info Brian. Despite the Phillies and Padres having pedestrian regular season records they are not really cinderellas. They both have massive payrolls and aggressive front offices.
October 20, 2022 at 9:19 am #205005The Bader-Montgomery trade may turn out to be a win for both clubs. That is the way trades are supposed to work. I know I am glad the Cards have Monty.
October 20, 2022 at 9:39 am #205006very little offense….
In recent years, it seems like this is the nature of playoff baseball. This will likely continue to be true if the way to advance to the LCS is to have a 2 or 3 starters capable of dominating a game and a short series. Those teams will often advance and the dominant starters will keep dominating.
The TBS postgame panel discussion also discussed the new wrinkle to the dynamics this year. Rollins and Granderson said hitters need to be facing “real” pitching everyday this time of year since pitching machines and coaches don’t simulate very well. They felt the lack of that everyday exposure for several days contributed to the Braves, Dodgers, Astros & Yanks (bye teams) having low production in their division series.
