This is the game we should win but I don’t want to jinx the team. I tend not to make predictions for obvious reasons.

Folty has traditionally struggled against the Cards (.301/.397/.602 line and a 7.64 ERA in 33 IP) but he’s pitched pretty well lately with a 1.50 ERA in September and 2.65 over the second half. I’d imagine that we will see Carp in the lineup and Bader sitting today, but maybe Shildt will mix it up.

All in all, you have to like the Cards’ position but it will depend on the offense stepping up to support Jack.

This is definitely not going to the Braves’ plan. They were certain they’d win with Keuchel on the mound yesterday. Will be very hard for them to rebound today w/MLB’s top pitcher facing them, but Cards still need to execute. Their biggest opponent today is overconfidence.

I wonder if the Cubs are enjoying watching the start of this series as much as we are?! Just sayin!

I don’t know if it is standard practice but I think it is a class act for the Cards to bring all the guys who contributed in September to Atlanta despite them not making the roster for the NLDS. I guess they can be available for injury replacement but any injuries would not be eligible for the NLCS if we make it that far. I saw Ravelo, Knizner, and several others in the dugout. Wonder if Gant also made the trip.

Cardinals need to come out aggressive and play with a sense of urgency knowing that with there ace on the mound, they have a great chance of taking a 2-0 series lead back to St.louis.

Yes, it is standard practice to bring extra players along. That way, they are there and ready for the next game if injury replacements are needed.

I hope Jack can take the pressure…he took it head on Sunday…but the postseason is it’s own animal

i hate putting all my hope in any one pitcher being consistently great…Jack has all the talent but he is allowed to not be great too…i just hope it isnt now…but even if it is, all is not lost and the team has players that can step up

Folty is a K pitcher and our team likes to strike out…hopefully the past good play against him happens again…

    Go Cards!

A veteran starter added who can pitch multiple innings.

This is pretty close to a must win game. If we can win this series without using Flaherty again after today, we can go into LA with a reasonably good shot of winning game one and stealing home field advantage

I guess in the playoffs, one could call every game a “must win”. But the reality here is that the worst the Cards could do is come home 1-1 and a decent chance to finish the series without returning to Atlanta. If we had been offered that bargain before Game 1, most would have taken it. Now, had they lost last night, then yes, Game 2 would be a must-win.

Even if Flaherty falters tonight, and if they have to go five, he would be ready on regular rest for that deciding game. Worry about the CS later.

I would call tonight a “should win”, but the game has to be played…

I read where Carlos Martinez was a little honked at the way Acuna ran around the bases after his homerun in the 9th. The article said he, as a veteran player, felt disrespected by Acuna.

All I can say is…….IF THAT GOOFBALL CARLOS MARTINEZ WANTS TO BE RESPECTED THEN HE SHOULD START ACTING LIKE A GROWN MAN AND A PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL PLAYER. CUT OUT THE STUPID GOOFY STUFF LIKE THROWING WATER, STACKING CUPS, AND COLORING HIS HAIR!!!!!

Carlos, if you want respect you have got to earn at least a little bit of it. And being a goofball isn’t the way to earn respect. The same goes for the other Goofball Martinez.

What happened to good old-fashioned hard nosed baseball the Cardinals used to play???

I meant to ask earlier if the absence of Leone mean anything for the future?

The same goes for the other Goofball Martinez.

Its not fair to compare Jose M with Carlos M… the players in the dugout love Jose. I can’t imagine how the relief boys feel about Carlos. IMO Jose helps to keep it loose.

Atlanta will have temps in the mid 90s again today…. same as yesterday. So I’m watching the game yesterday and people in the crowd were sweating.

51 for a high with rain in NY at the same time. Brrrr.

It’s mid 50s down here in PA, NyQuist. Autumn has set in quickly and the leaves are changing fast.

I agree that tonight is a “should win” game. A win would put Atlanta in a real bind with tough games in St Louis yet to come. Let’s hope Jack pitches as well as he did against Chicago and Folty pitches exactly as well as he has against the Cards the last couple of years.

Looks like another late night at the screen for me (10:30 p.m. start my time). Let’s hope the boys continue whacking the ball. I liked 14 hits last night. Perhaps we should stretch this one out to a 6-run lead, however, as extra Cmart insurance.

Good team win last night! Mikolas was cruisin’ last night but I think he was pulled after 2 straight walks. That heat and humidity was getting to everybody. I do gatorade down here myself. Don’t count too much on the stats. If Foltys been as good lately as Stlcard says it may be a close game. If we could get Flaherty more runs than usual we could take this
Go Cardinals! Great to see Ozuna get some hits last night too!

I’m with NyquisT and am not gonna get smug about our beating these Braves (tho’ I felt pretty good we would from the get go)

Going forward the plan should be: Pitch around Freeman every AB and int BB Acuna every AB so Yadi can throw the idiot out at 2nd imoji

Thanks Brian. I knew that the players were readily available but do not recall seeing them in the dugout before. At one time and probably still, MLB had rules as to who could be in the dugout. Anyway – classy move to have them with the rest of the team.

I am far from a Carlos Martinez fan but at my age (80) I see no problem with Carlos’ antics and he has lots of guys who do the same or worse in MLB – hotfoots, cups on head, throwing sunflower seeds at guys on mike, etc. Baseball would be a pretty stiff and uninteresting game if we took the personalities away from it. Carlos off field charities speak to his generosity with his time. BTW, I also like JMart who is probably even goofier than Carlos. He keeps things light and, despite not being liked by some fans, he has times where his doubles and triples make the difference in a game. So while I like most of your posts, lets just agree to disagree with this one. Now here is one for you to comment on…………..

The tomahawk chop and war chant tend to surprise me and p-ss me off at the same time. In this day of age of political correctness I don’t dispute the right to have Indian mascots and such but the lack of any significant amount of people complaining about it is the thing that surprises me. Cleveland and Washington with their Indian mascots also seem to survive but Washington has received a lot of bad press. I tip my cap to the owner telling folks to buzz off when they come at him to change things up.

I don’t care if they chant and do the chop, I just wish they’d give it a rest once in a while. It really wears on the nerves.

Here are some important keys to the game.

1: Flaherty continue to do his thing.
2: An early lead to put pressure on Atl.
3: if Flare is on, stick with him and don’t rely on the bullpen esp if it’s less than a 4 run lead heading into the later innings.
    4: better defense.
