1:15 p.m. RHP Michael Wacha (6-6, 5.44+) vs. TBA FOX Sports Midwest // KMOX // WIJR
August 25, 2019 at 6:41 am #103642I’ve got my broom ready, let’s hope Wacha brings his.
I’ll be packing down a pork tenderloin with baked potatoes and a ratatouille, finishing with some freshly picked blackberries from the back pasture with sugar and cream.
Rah Cardinals.

stlcard25ParticipantIt looks like Antonio Senzatela is coming back from the minors to pitch today. In his last four starts before going down in July, he allowed 5, 7, 8 and 6 runs. He made five starts for Albuquerque and in a total of 27-1/3 innings gave up 20 ER and 7 HR. So hopefully the AAA stint didn’t cure what ailed him.
Wacha has looked better lately so hopefully he can continue to pitch well and the bullpen is ready in case he can’t. A sweep would be sweet here and with the Cubs in a scrum with the Nats this weekend and headed to NY for a series with the Mets next, the team is positioned about as well as we could have hoped after the dud of a deadline.
August 25, 2019 at 7:08 am #103645With Wong out for a few days, it looks like Carp is back in the lineup by default (unless Munoz gets hot).
August 25, 2019 at 7:34 am #103653Ideal pitching for today would be Wacha and Helsley going 4 innings each then a big enough lead to bring Leone in to finish off the sweep!
I didn’t get to watch the game last night due to date night with MrsCFICT, but I see that Leone struck out the side. Did he look that good out there? That would sure be nice if he could get back to his old ways the next 6 weeks. That would make the decision to drop him a lot harder since he wouldn’t get much more than 1.5 in arb, which if nothing else could be traded for a lottery ticket prospect(that’s assuming he pitches extremely well the rest of the year).

Guys were chasing to be sure, but his cutter and slider were very sharp. Seemed like they had a lot of movement and hitters weren’t coming particularly close on the swings and misses.
August 25, 2019 at 8:31 am #103662SC25, that’s encouraging! The BP has saved the team this year, if it were league average they would be behind the Brewers without a doubt.
August 25, 2019 at 10:10 am #103664WHY CANT I POST ANYTHING?????
It wont let me post my regular message but it lets me post this stuff??????

ParticipantWell, well…. I got to see the Cubs lose at Wrigley again, Amazing right? All those who penciled in them to win every game at home better have erasers.
My point is that da Cubs ain’t that good. They may have to struggle to finish 2nd ahead of MIL.
We have a 1.5 game lead on them but by some accounts they have already brought champagne to their clubhouse to celebrate winning the division after hearing the media and some Cards fans conceding the crown to them. WTF

ParticipantWe’ll probably get that Sunday lineup that is used when we win the first two/three games of a series. But that’s okay… sometimes we win anyway.
Let’s call this one a 7-6 win as we get into that COL bullpen for some late runs and our BP shuts the Rox down.
August 25, 2019 at 10:20 am #103668Okay this is not a baseball post but the Cards seem to think that Maroon is a honorary Cardinal. I am not a hockey pay expert but can anybody explain this? Pat Maroon signed a one year contract with another team after playing with a championship team. I think there must be more to the story.
On STL Today:
<But in the end he signed for only one year with Tampa Bay, and for little more than half the $1.75 million he made last season with the Blues>But I just found this (by reading further):
<With nine restricted free agents to re-sign during the offseason, including goalie Jordan Binnington, defenseman Joel Edmundson and forward Oskar Sundqvist, the Blues didn’t have much money left under the salary cap to make any kind of substantial offer to Maroon.>
August 25, 2019 at 12:45 pm #103680I will temper my excitement on Leone until he proves he can do it in a high leverage situation.
As for the Cubs it is good to see them finally lose a couple of home games. The Nats are looking primed for a postseason run. They have Strasburg going today and when they get Mad Max back watch out. Their lineup is dangerous.
We need to build up as much cushion as possible before that 4 game gauntlet at Wrigley in late September. Our next 3 coming up at Miller Park won’t be a cakewalk either.
August 25, 2019 at 1:17 pm #103684It looks like the game is going to be delayed due to weather. Assuming rain is in the area the rest of the day Shildt had better treat this like a 5 inning game. We don’t need a repeat of Wednesday night.
August 25, 2019 at 1:19 pm #103685I would not put Leone in any close games as of yet. He’d have to put some good outings for the Cards before Schildt should even consider it.
August 25, 2019 at 2:17 pm #103688Yipee. Cubs down 1-0 in 4th.
August 25, 2019 at 2:26 pm #103691Has anyone found an update as to when the game is going to get started? It looks like the rain/storm was out of there at 1:30 or so.
August 25, 2019 at 3:18 pm #103694Damn rain, making me watch the (ick) Cubs (1-!) in the 6th.
August 25, 2019 at 3:25 pm #1036952-1 Nats after six.
August 25, 2019 at 3:34 pm #103697Still mired in a delay, ChiTown. Good news out of Wrigley, as the Nats get a run right back in the top of the 6th to propel themselves into a tenuous 2-1 advantage.
Sorry to see the Esteemed Rat having posting difficulties for the umpteenth time again today. If I didn’t know Brian so well, I would say that he was toying with the Esteemed One. I love Rat, but I know if I wielded the power that Brian possesses, I’d be mighty tempted to ruffle Rat’s feathers now and then.
Looks like another 5 star din-din at the CardinalinFrance household again tonight…..but those pickled raspberries sound a bit iffy.
August 25, 2019 at 3:39 pm #103698I’m looking to call some action, but the baseball weather Gods are stubbornly denying me that chance. Just as with Lane Thomas, just give me that chance to produce and may God be my judge, I’ll produce!
August 25, 2019 at 3:49 pm #103699One more quick salient aside. I did the math and all I have to do is predict 19 out of the next 20 games correctly and my documented 88% success rate on picking professional sports games will increase to 89%. As a reference, Jimmy the Greek Snyder had a documented success rate of 74%. We need to get this game in today as our boys will complete the 4 game sweep if given the chance to do so. I’ll call this one 7-4 Birds with “Kid” Edman clobbering a long one into the upper reaches of the left field rafters.
August 25, 2019 at 3:51 pm #103700I’ll go watch a little tv and hopefully we’ll be playing ball later.
August 25, 2019 at 3:57 pm #103701Game has started. Go Cards!!
August 25, 2019 at 4:00 pm #103702I’d have Wacha on a short leash.
August 25, 2019 at 4:18 pm #103703Wacha serves up gopher ball and 3rd career homer to Hampson. Lifetime .221 hitter, great.
