Experience can go a long way towards being a better pitcher with different results. You never know until you try. The situation is not as dire as some may think. Bloom is loading up on pitchers as proven by the Gray trade. Matthews and Doyle are a lot closer to competing for the big club than most realize. Bloom still has Contreras, Donovan & Arenado to trade and acquire yet more young pitching. The fact is that numerous guys could turn the corner and become much more productive with age, experience and opportunity. Pallante is most likely on his last leg. If he survives the trade winds. He will be given a chance to show if he can stick or if last year is his new normal. By mid season and about 10-15 starts Matthews will most likely be ready to be seen, and if Pallante has stunk it up he will be headed to the pen or traded. We will all need to see how the trade season unfolds and what Bloom gets in returns. Lets hope he can peel away a top 5 pitching prospect from some team.
