Why is Adm. Yamamoto supposed to carry home a flagship sized load of money? Best I can tell, he’s never recorded a solitary out in the Big Leagues.

Edman is an average player and that’s all. If he were traded he’d be missed for about five minutes.

    This is a ridiculous statement.

I won’t get as specific as some of you but in general my moves would be:

Sign Nola for 6/150 so 25M for 2024.

Trade Burleson and Graceffo for Bieber, 12M for 2024.

Trade Carlson, Knizner, and Hudson to the Yankees for Schmidt. 3M for 2024.

Trade O’Neill for a couple of decent AA/AAA pitchers. Sign Adam Duvall for 1/7.

Sign Adam Ottavino and Chris Stratton to cheap one year deals.

That should have our payroll in the 190M range.

    Nola
    Bieber
    Mikolas
    Schmidt
    Matz

    Helsley
    Gallegos
    Jo Jo
    Ottavino
    Thompson or Liberatore
    Pallante
    King
    Stratton

    C Contreras
    1B Goldy
    2B Gorman
    SS Winn
    3B Arenado
    LF Noot
    CF Edman
    RF Walker
    DH Donovan

    Duvall
    Palacios
    Herrera
Fermin or some other cheap IF

Bling I love your roster! With that pitching staff we would be ready for a WS run! Card25 yours is great also! A little more realistic IMO! If we get anything close to Blings starting 5 I’ll being doing cartwheels even at my age! Lol!

An article in the local paper sheds quite a bit of light on Johnny’s winter strategy regarding the addition of SP’ing. Johnny consistently indicates that he is looking for “volume and the wish to pack on consistent and predictable inings.” The article also quotes him as saying, “We know we have to find guys who can give us some innings.” I fully expect the return of both Jake Westbrook and Jeff Suppan…

I bet Johnny would vote for MLB to adopt some sort of a mercy rule. That might buy him some innings.

Steve60, yes it is shocking what could be done with an optimized allocation of payroll dollars, leveraging the organization’s strength to address its weakness. But this thread is not about the reality of what the FO will be doing this winter.

But this thread is not about the reality of what the FO will be doing this winter.

Full disclosure. I’m like a kid that still believes in Christmas when it comes to the Cardinals. Baseball and the Cardinals is one of the few consistent things thru my life, starting with the 67 team. It’s the same thing each year. Deep down inside I honestly expect greatness just like that 67 team. I expect MO or whoever to pull a rabbit out of their hat. It’s easier than constant skepticism. It’s been hard to have much optimism this year. But hope is the fo pulls thru with what we need. Whatever they do, I will support for now. Go Cards.

    Quote from Mozeliak:

“In an offseason where there is certainly a lot of noise of what may or may not happen with the market … our approach is going to be that we understand that there might be some uncomfortable decisions for us, and we’ll see how we react to it. But we’re also not going to just do something stupid just to say that we did it.”

He’s gotten into trouble with that approach in the past. Ozuna is the #1 example. But how does such a talented player do so poorly for the Cards? Oh yeah…. he was hurt when we got him. Ozuna much grind his teeth when going to Busch these days and just the thought of Ozuna coming to STL must have Mo grinding his teeth.

I saw this excahange from MLBTR’s chat today. This is one of the moves I suggested in this thread.

    Clark Schmidt
1:06 Am I a Yankee on opening day?

    Steve Adams
1:07 I can certainly see him being moved, particularly if they’re looking at Cardinals bats on the trade market. There are lots of frameworks there that’d work. I can see it going either way, which is kind of a cop out, but the objective reality is that even Brian Cashman doesn’t know right now if Schmidt will be a Yankee on Opening Day

    Gamescard:

Your love of Edman blinds you to the fact he’s a marginally good player and that’s all. He has talent, especially versatility but he’s not a cornerstone and could easily be traded for someone good and would soon be forgotten…except for you.
