Three of our rotation members are signed thru 2025. One is Matz, who I’m half-full about.
From June 1st on, he faced 205 batters. 52 IP, 38 hits, .552 ops allowed, 12/49 BB/K, 2.08 ERA, 2.81 FIP.
Pretty good.Maybe Matz has fine tuned a pitch, or new pitch? Maybe he just got healthy? Regardless, those are 52 IP I’m not sweeping under the rug just because I’ve seen him much worse. I’m bullish on Matz and Mikolas.
We may like one of those club options on Gibson or Lynn. Perfect flexibility. Picking up one would leave a SP5 role vacant for one of our young arms to step forward. It’s a year from now, surely that’s not too big of ask from the pipeline. Maybe we add a young controllable arm in the next 12 months?
