Winn pops up again. So many of those lately. Emulating Arenado.

Burly swings at a pitch at his toes and somehow is able to hit it, but it’s a fly out to left.

Cubs reach 30 straight innings without allowing a run. Hopefully that doesn’t keep up our entire series.

Mastruboni leads off with a pop up dump hit into CF. Several of those off Gray tonight along with a couple infield singles.

Great base running by Mastruboni on a sharp single to RF by Amaya as he goes first to third. Gray running down. 96 pitches.

Then a RBI sac fly for Hoerner on a hard hit line drive to Noot. 3-0. That dump off hit to lead off comes back to hurt.

Overall Gray was solid tonight. Still quite a few K’s. He wasn’t real sharp early, but he got it back together. 7 innings and 3 earned runs. Several lucky hits that were popped up and just fell. A few were legitimate. He probably deserved to give up 2.

The issue tonight has been our struggle much of the year. Poor offense. No one driving the ball. We need Noot to take every at bat.

Willson stabbing at every Roycroft pitch that moves to glove side costing Roycroft a few strikes in the 8th.

And now back to back hits. It looked like Donovan maybe could have dived and caught the 2nd one but he decided against it and it bounced off him kind of funny. 1st and 3rd 2 outs with John King now coming in.

Memphis down 6-0 in the 9th with just 1 hit – a single by Baker.

And Bote pinch hits. He nearly hits a double to right that is foul. Then nearly misses one that’s foul to left. Then hits a sharp one to left for a double. This one is becoming miserable. Be glad you aren’t watching. No fun just watching us scatter a few singles and not walk.

I’ve had KMOX on, so not watching didn’t save me.

Luke Little comes in and throws 4 pitches to Nootbaar and appears to hurt his leg – maybe a hammy. He’s out with a new pitcher coming in.

Leiter Jr comes in. If there’s any life left, and it doesn’t feel like there is, then it needs to show up now.

I though it would be Mathews going for Springfield, but it’s not. I guess he is tomorrow. I don’t know how they could be going with a 6 man rotation with all the IL guys.

Sorry Bling. At least you don’t have to watch Gorman swing and miss everything. It’s unbearable.

Jimmy Crooks having a helluva night in Springfield. He’s been great lately. Bernal too. We have the market cornered on catching prospects. We have close to zilch on all other positions. Although there has been a little more life lately in general from minor league offenses.

He needs to go to Memphis and try to learn how to hit ML pitching. Same as sent Walker instead of just letting him flail.

Gio getting another garbage inning. He’s had a lot of these lately.

I know I was a fan of cutting him. I tried to lead the mob. I’m starting to doubt my fervor just a little. His fastball has just a little more zip than it has had most of the season. The slider has always been good. I’m not convinced he’ll be good. But he might be good enough to hold onto for this role.

We get a Harvard guy for the 9th. Some guy named Bigge who can throw 100. But can he throw them over the plate?

4 balls to Winn says maybe not.

No runners in scoring position yet for the Cards. I’m guessing Masyn can get there – although it may be on fielder’s indifference.

Our largest rally of the night . . . 2 walks. But don’t get excited. The 2nd worst hitter in baseball with runners in scoring position coming up. Let’s go Goldy!

I don’t know why that matters Bling in a walk year. Cards owe him that no matter what. I think it’s more about his past performance and trying to reclaim something.

Goldy actually gets a hit! Cubs closer enters. Cubs scoreless streak is over.

Bases loaded after a walk to Nado. Nootbaar coming up with 2 outs as the potential tying run.

Strike 3 called on a pitch at the top of the strike zone on the inner corner. A perfect floater that falls right into the perfect spot for Neris.

JJ – I have no clue who would be the player of the game. Gray and his 7 innings of 3 run ball? Nootbaar with a couple hits? I’m not willing to give it to Goldy on the only RBI. I’m going with Gray even though he gets an L.

Cy Hendricks strikes again. The guy would be a Hall of Famer if he only faced us.

Hey stlcard25, will you happen to be in my hometown for the family nuptial, Casper? Last June (2023) I also attending a wedding in the old home town; my nephew’s. Both my sisters still live there so I get back once or twice a year.

We will be passing through Casper tomorrow en route to Riverton. My in laws met in Cheyenne and my mother in law actually worked in Casper for a year I believe, so Wyoming is dear to the in laws.
