The Cubs have been playing better as of late. We need to be careful here and not let them back into the playoff picture.
Taking a gander at the Thursday out-of-town scoreboard:
Cards get a break when Pittsburgh wins over the Brewers. 1-0 Pirates the final at Miller Park in Milwaukee. Skenes threw seven no hit innings in this one.
The Reds win over the Rockies in Cincinnati. 8-1 Reds the final at Riverfront Stadium.
The Cubs and Orioles are scoreless in the 2nd at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore. And Cody Bellinger has been placed on the IL with a left middle finger fracture.
Me and Whitey Herdog will be tuning in to the Braves and DBacks later tonight from Arizona. We are going to have some scrambled eggs and Cherry Delight for our late night snack. Then a couple of 7×50 Palma Real President cigars as the game unfolds. Then late tonight another cigar and a couple of episodes of Dragnet with Sergeant Joe Friday.

Scoreboard Update:
The Cubs now lead the Orioles 3-0 in the top of the 5th. Someone explain to me how they could go to Baltimore and sweep the best team in the American League? They will be red hot coming to St. Louis. I just hope we can win one of the four games.

Cubs pitching seems to be hot as the Orioles are being shut down at home in that series. Need Frank or Brooks to rally the troops and get Earl his 3-run bomb.
Speaking of Brooks, I met him at a collector’s show a few years ago. Great guy, and we lost him not too long ago. Was with the lovely Lady Bike at a thrift store earlier in the week and picked up a biography of Brooks. Am reading a book right now on early 1900s star of baseball, along with stage and screen, Mike Donlin. Once I finish that I will likely dive into the Brooks book, although there are others I have in mind as well. But the Brooks book will get read at some point fairly soon. Brooks was a Cardinal fan growing up in Arkansas.

Cubs lead the Orioles 8-0 in the 9th at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore.
If we get swept by the Cubs we are finished. Done. The season is over. We will be Smellers at the Trade Deadline.

Yep, still an inning to go, but the cubs have now out-scored the Orioles 21-2 in their 3 game series…….in Baltimore. If you’re a cubbie fan living in Baltimore and you attended this series, then you’ve just experienced a taste of what heaven must be like. They will be riding high in the saddle for tomorrow night’s game in St.Louis, but by night’s end they will be brought back down to earth……in a big way. 7-3 Cards your final.
To balance the outlook a bit, as Rats noted, Cody Bellinger suffered a fractured finger last night and went on the IL. A big loss for them.

The 1970 World Series was the third one I watched as a young boy. I didn’t like the way the first two went. I enjoyed the third one and was in awe of Brooks.
Between Bally’s problems and MLB’s greed I will not be renewing my Extra Innings sub next year.
As it stands right now I cannot watch any games involving Cincinnati or Atlanta nor any games that MLB has spun off to Apple.
This is what I’m aware of – there may be other teams I can’t watch because of Ballys that I don’t know about yet.
Xfinity will end up refunding me a few dollars eventually – I guess – their position will be that Extra Innings is still delivering the vast majority of what I paid for.
No matter how much money the government or a business gets its hands on it never seems to be nearly enough for them…
Kyle Hendricks is listed as the Cub starter tonight. While his numbers this year are really bad he is a notorious Cardinal killer. Hopefully Gray can keep us in it.
Hendricks tossed one nice game recently, but for the most part, he’s been tattooed pretty good this year. Definitely not the Kyle Hendricks that we’re used to seeing. So it’s payback time tonight. Hey it’s Friday, so let’s see a decent showing for indulging in the fiddlers today……or any catfish variation thereof. I know Rat and I will be chowing down on some tasty fiddlers, with TD, BicycleMike and Bling also having the propensity to indulge in these scum sucking, bottom dwelling fish as well. I just hope the hot Amish gal Emily is working out at the restaurant. And it might be too hot for a cigar outside after the Fiddlers are consumed, just have to see.
And, unfortunately, me and Whitey Herdog will be on the couch for the Marlins and Reds game tonight from Riverfront Stadium thanks to that STUPID Apple TV stuff. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for updates though.

I’ll be on the road, traveling to Wyoming for a family wedding. So my din din will be whatever we find best to eat at a stop along the road. A couple of long days of driving ahead. Looks like a hot one in central Wyoming this weekend.
Hope the Cards can further cool the Cubs and make a good draft pick while I’m away.
I’m almost tempted to slide a nickel into the Apple TV slot in the hope that the greedy so and so’s that came up with the money grubbing idea will choke on it.
Hey stlcard25, will you happen to be in my hometown for the family nuptial, Casper? Last June (2023) I also attending a wedding in the old home town; my nephew’s. Both my sisters still live there so I get back once or twice a year.
I have an iPhone and iPad, and an Apple account so maybe I can watch this one. I have never tried but will check it out tonight.
And as far as Apple and other mega-corps, I have mixed emotions. Having worked in corporate accounting the bulk of my career, I have seen first hand the unfairness and greed. Then again, I have also been part of some great things and efforts towards giving back to the community.
Specific to Apple, they are decent chunk of my IRA portfolio and I have gained some wealth due to being a long time investor. But I understand the complaints. I don’t have a good answer to everything, but would like to see a more equitable distribution of revenues to employees in terms of salary and compensation. When management balks at giving a $2000 raise to an accounting clerk, while the CEO is compensated $30 million big ones, things need to change.
Okay, back to your regularly scheduled program. Go Cards!! This has the look of a tough series – Cubs with momentum, Cards a bit stuck in the mud after Wednesday.
Pugs-No catfish anywhere near. But Mrs. KCB loves Culvers fish sandwhiches and so do I. So we will go that way. Cheese kurds on the side with horseradish sauce. Malt vinegar on the fish sandwhich. Marshmallow creme concrete. Maybe get the percolator out and have a nice cup of percolated Starbucks Dark Roast when i get home so i dont sleep thru the game. I worked the last 2 days. I have a smart tv. Should be able to just click on Apple TV and go to sports. I sure hope we stomp those little bears.
Here at stately Bling Manor tonight’s cuisine is a Costco rotisserie chicken and a bagged salad kit. Probably a Klondike bar for dessert. I also see the fixins for homemade jalapeno poppers, maybe just in time for the game.
I do like fried catfish and hushpuppies but Friday night is always pizza night at our house. My favorite brand is called Against The Grain. It is made in Vermont and is sold at our local organic store. Best frozen pizza I have ever had. That will be on the menu tonight along with a Little Debbie brownie for dessert and a large glass of Diet Mountain Dew.
